    Looks good! I like the points about American design, build, staffing, and so forth. Helps justify the price and make for a selling point.

    Oh wow, the Chesapeake Bay tour would be amazing. I hear there is a restaurant in Yorktown or near there that still serves the menu they presented to Queen Victoria. A beautiful ship, though it is curious that they took up space to facilitate kayaking. Do many cruise patrons kayak? Maybe they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd. Or perhaps that large boat doubles as emergency and docking, so the added kayaks aren’t a big deal.

    It's very interesting to watch the emergence of new cruise ships. As I understand, they'll have a smaller draft. Does American Cruise Lines plan to create new river cruise routes?

    Nice ship but American should consider adding a small pool on the top deck. European River lines now have the pools on their ships!

    Does ACL include some basic tour excursion in each port? or are you on your own?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад +2

      Shore excursions are fairly inexpensive on ACL. For example, I remember one on my recent Mississippi River cruise that was $25 and it was a fantastic excursion. There are shore excursions available at each place the ship visits.
      Of course, if you'd like to just head off on your own and do something that interests you, you're welcome to do that.

    Do they do Great lakes Cruising?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад

      No, that's an area that American Cruise Lines doesn't visit yet. Perhaps someday! For now, you might want to check out Viking... they have a ship in the Great Lakes during the summer months.

    Those prices are wild...

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад +4

      You only have 109 passengers to split the fixed costs of running the ship. On a mega cruise ship the costs are split between thousands of passengers. But the kind of person that goes on one of these small-ship cruises is able to afford this. It's not some 30-year-old struggling to pay his bills... it's someone that has been working and saving and investing his whole life and can now afford a vacation like this.

    Where are the lifeboats?

  • @CloverJam

    Maybe it’s because I’m not 50+ but it seems kinda boring lol, there’s no casino,pools,mini golf or big movie screens. What do you do on the ship for entertainment in between ports? Especially for 10+ days

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад +3

      You talk to the person you're travelling with and you talk with your fellow passengers! It's a really good kind of cruise for just re-connecting with your spouse, and also to meet some nice new friends.
      During much of the day, the ship is in port and the passengers are enjoying shore excursions. There is also cocktail time in the evenings, and of course a nice long dinner to enjoy. After dinner, there is always some kind of entertainment... just not BIG shows like you'd have on an ocean-going cruise ship.
      But really, it's a fantastic cruise for connecting with your spouse, away from all the distractions and other priorities that make it difficult for the two of you to connect at home.

      As a solo traveler I can imagine reviewing and processing the day’s photos and reflecting on the experiences while preparing for the next day. Frequent stops with lots to do should keep one occupied enough to not need those other things.

    • @bpowers31450
      @bpowers31450 2 года назад +1

      I guess some people, even those of us who are younger, don’t need all those things to be entertained 🤷‍♀️. Being able to visit with others or just enjoy some down time without a bunch of noise sounds wonderful to me.

    Ooh, American Cruise Lines has the next generation of cruise ships!
    I wonder which one of the American Cruise Lines cruise ships are you going on board next?
    As always, I am Thomas Comeau and I will see the replies from you, Jim Zim and I love your collection of 25 G scale model trains and the house in Washington state!

    I can't help but wonder how often these types of ships sink or get into accidents.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  2 года назад

      I actually keep my eye on a web page that tracks incidents on cruise ships and while the all the big cruise lines are constantly in there, American Cruise Lines almost never has anything newsworthy happen. The only incident that really sticks out is that there was one ACL ship operating in Lake Barkley in Tennessee and it came upon part of the lake that was even more shallow than the charts indicated... and the ship got hung up in that shallow section.
      The thing is that these small ships ALWAYS operate very close to land. They're either in a river, or cruising right along the coastline of an ocean. So, even in the worst case accident scenario, the passengers would literally be able to jump in the water and swim to shore.

    • @mikejankowski6321
      @mikejankowski6321 2 года назад

      Generally, they only sink once.
