The polish emblem (white eagle) which they are wearing tabards with is the emblem of poland (year 1295). It was a second emblem out of 16 throughout the history.

HEMA is a god and valuable thing and there is lots of stuff in it that applies here. But do not discount the applicability of SCA. SCA is to this sort of like what boxing is to MMA. With its' specialization in weapons combat and one-strike kills, it lacks a lot of the dynamics of the full-contact game, but folks in the SCA have been spending the past 50 years figuring out ways to hit people hard and fast with weapons in fights. The sophistication of striking technique you can learn is actually rather high. Also you get the experience of melee fighting and the awesomeness of historical recreation.

I was, however, able to identify Jaye Brooks, his son Cat, Bobby D, Paul Friedel, Willima "Bam Bam" Woodbury, Ryan Weaver, and a few others on the US team.
