I love this! Real nature, from a real person, not all this fake videos everywhere, or faked through tv. I live across the country so watching these videos gives me a real sense of being there. Thank you!
Thank you. A lot of people wish I would talk more but I hate hearing myself talk. It is much easier to just show nature from the quiet hiking perspective. Thank you for your comments.
@@StanMills I love the videos as is , my opinion , u get a real feel for being there, and listening to nature are the most beautiful sounds. Not all People appreciate nature for what it is and spoil beauty with talking. 😁
Thank-you for the hike. I appreciate your stopping to show us the wildlife of Yellowstone. And also picking up garbage. Can't understand how people would take that hike and thoughtlessly leave junk on the trails!
I have never understood it either. But there is always a small minority of people that don’t care. If we all pick up the garbage after them, then we can keep our beautiful parks nice. Thank you for your comment.
Stan , again I watch from my chair during cancer treatment and it gets me to the other side. I miss Yellowstone a lot. I’ll be training for a year so I’ll be able to hike around maybe not as good as you but I have you to cover the bases for me. I look forward to these clips daily and are instrumental in my healing process. Thank you …. God Bless…
Thanks Stan, for taking me back to Yellowstone. It’s been four years. I’m a Covid survivor, it can’t get out to nature anymore. Thanks for taking me along on your hikes through the years. Mike Benjamin St.Louis, Mo.
I see you have some Osprey in your videos. I am pretty sure they are Osprey in mine but not 100% sure. I am not that good with birds. Thank you for your comments.
@@StanMills Those are definite Ospreys in your video, a distinctive call too. I know them well, there are a lot of nests in this area. The nest in my video is about 1/2 mile across the lake, it is actually an old bald eagles nest. We can watch the nest from our deck. Three years ago we watched the bald eagles raise 3 on it. We are excited that the Ospreys have taken it this year.
And thank you for picking up trash also. I try to encourage people to pick it up even if I have to set up my camera first and then pick it up. I am amazed that people leave trash. Thank you for your comments.
I am a bit amazed at how dry and yellow everything is already. Here in N. California we had an abundance of water over the winter and everything is still pretty much green, though not for long. Thanks for sharing. Blessings all.
It really hurt me to see the winter kill of Elk 😢! What a SHAME and a HORRIBLE waste!! I got a chuckle out of the entertainment that momma bear and baby bear provided, that was so sweet! 🤗 🤗 I don't remember seeing this many Bison roaming around in your other videos, as there were in this one. Good hike my friend, thank you for sharing!
I think there was more winter kill than usual this year. I hate to see it also. But remember it is critical food source for a lot of wildlife in the winter and spring.
Wow, must be near Gardiner? Last week in Lamar snow everywhere and super deep. Not one single animal sighted in 3 days while we were snowshoeing. Not even tracks.
Wow, really cool to see all that wildlife action. I''ll be hiking in the GYE for a couple months this summer. I'd be about stoked to see as much wildlife in all that time as you did on this one hike!
Great video Stan - lots of winterkill everywhere this year. I'm curious if you find your underfoot strap on your Kenetrek gaiters wears quickly?? Mine seems to not last very long. Could be the way I walk I suppose. Thanks for sharing your hike - excellent video as usual!
Hey Stan, I visited Yellowstone last August and basically stuck to the roads, did the loops a couple days and some light hiking, (Norris, Old Faithful, Mammoth). What’s the best time of year and the best trail to take if you’re just getting started in the hiking hobby and want to see as much wildlife as possible? I did see Elk, White Tail, Bison? Fox, and Coyote on my first trip.
Headed out to visit Yellowstone for the very first time next week. I'm wondering if everything will be open with all the snow. Anybody got the inside scoop?
Hey Stan, my friend and I are visiting Yellowstone on May 2nd. We plan to go one a small hike, around 3 hours. Where would you say is the best to see wildlife at this time? Lamar valley? I don't think the road to Hayden Valley is opened, right?
Very hard to say because of the snow pack. I think it is still pretty limited. You will have to drive around and be willing to hike wherever it looks good.
Saw no grizzly evidence around and I could see that no bears have been feeding on the carcasses from a distance. There are so many winter kill carcasses around the bears and wolves have been eating their fill.
@@StanMills I’m glad you include those sequences. It s worth resetting the scene. I know I shouldn’t be surprised - but you go so deep in to the wilderness it is still a little jarring to see man/made flotsam.
@@swainscheps I can’t believe someone left that plastic bag and didn’t bother picking it up. Another thing I pick up a lot in the backcountry is those helium filled party balloons.
I assume they died from no food or illness or cold like you mentioned. There is a lot of winter kill in the area right now. More than the grizzlies and wolves can eat I suppose.
@@StanMills Can you walk us through what signs to look for before approaching a carcass? How can you tell there's no bear or wolf pack sitting in the trees somewhere ready to defend their food?
Good afternoon Stan, just wondering if you keep a range finder on you so you can tell how far any animals maybe or if you are just eye-balling it. Thanks for the content I really enjoy watching it on my lunch break at work.
Stan the man ! This is a great video ! And I appreciate it but Stan yr on a vacation you can wait till it’s light outside B 4 you start yr hike unless yr a person who likes getting up a O dark :30 to start yr day and Please be safe out there ! Remember what happened to the Muchacho who lived with the bears or more recently in Japan all they found was a bear with a pair of fishing waders in the bears mouth and some dudes head ! BEARS ARE DANGEROUS ! You where to close ! If that bear wanted you it would’ve took maybe 20 seconds ! Their faster that your giving them credit for “Really”! What would’ve happen if there were cubs involved? PLEASE Be AWARE of your surroundings

9 hours? Now that's a hike! Good to see you back Stan.
9 hours nice and slow looking for wildlife.
Your coming out of hiding at 9:20 was cleaver and entertaining! Thanks for sharing.
Camp scarf on amazon. It seems to break up the outline real well and it is very light weigh.
That Osprey nest is amazing! Thanks for taking us along as usual.
Amazing to see the Eagle Nest ...as it built so well..and further put so much barricade around it😲🦅

I have never had one wear out and break. But I don’t use flat bottom boots. The is always a space for the strap to fit under the boot.

Can someone please explain what winter kill is? They looked so fresh, like they were sleeping. What killed them?
Cold weather, deep snow, lack of food.

Spring Yup
Is this from last year?
Stan how come there’s not much snow around there when the area has had a lot of snow?
In 2 months it's the longest day of the year...
Yikes, coming upon a kill site. Aren't you ever worried that a grizzly is lurking nearby?
Saw no grizzly evidence around and I could see that no bears have been feeding on the carcasses from a distance. There are so many winter kill carcasses around the bears and wolves have been eating their fill.

I wasn't sure either but the definition is to die from exposure to cold winter weather.
