No offense but this video completely ignores key plot points that led to Robert's Rebellion like, Rhaegar already being married with Elia Martell with whom he had two children, Princess Rhaenys and her brother Prince Aegon(not Jon Snow), yet still having the nerve to crown a teenage Lyanna Stark the Queen of Love and Beauty instead of his own wife. The deaths of Rickard Stark , his son Brandon and his companions when they learned of the supposed kidnapping of Lyanna, they were killed by the mon orders by the Mad King. Also, the fact that the Mad King Aerys ordered Jon Arryn to kill Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark. So no "Robert's Rebellion wasn't built on a lie",but rather on a series of events that led to the Rebellion.

No offense but this video was made in relation to the series, so if it does not show all that you quote it is because the show has not yet shown it. Moreover this video is more about on Jon, Rhaegar and Lyanna than "Robert's rebellion", the title is taken from a Bran's quote. I agree with you when you say that the Rebellion was built on a series of events that led to it, but Lyanna's "kidnapping" was the final straw that start the Rebellion.

Robert Rebellion was a lie. Lyanna married Rhaegar. His previous marriage was annulled. They were in love. Jon isn’t a bastard. And all these deaths could have been avoided. Robert strikes me as an utter bastard. Who because he couldn’t handle rejection threw his dummy out the pram, and started a war. The only really sad thing is Lyanna dying in childbirth that is the only death that probably couldn’t have been prevented.

Gemma Paterson So the murder of Lord Rickard Stark(Ned and Lyanna's father) and Brandon(Ned and Lyanna's older brother) isn't sad, wow. A lie is only true if someone knows the facts yet ignores those facts, the show clearly states that Robert had no knowledge of Lyanna's plans with Rhaegar, he was a ward of Jon Arryn's at the time as was Ned Stark. Lord Rickard and Brandon Stark were both murdered by Rhaegar's father trying to get Lyanna back as she was betrothed to Robert as is custom in A Song of Ice and Fire(families marry for political favors rather than for love) so no Robert is not a bastard he was a man motivated by love(he loved
Lyanna) and hatred(Rhaegar) and also out of loyalty for Ned Stark whom he considered his brother.

@@themadthinker4291 The war was based upon a lie. If you say it can only be a lie if someone knows the facts, well Ned knew the facts at the end. He helped hold the lie. That Rhaeger was evil and raped his sister. That he was raising a bastard. Just because someone doesn't know their life is a lie doesn't make it less of one. Jon's entire identity is based upon a lie.
Still the rebellion was tragedy all around. Brandon went to kings landing to demand the release of his sister because he thought she'd been kidnapped. The Mad King truly caused the rebellion when he killed Brandon and his father, and demanded the heads of Ned and Robert. By that point there was no point for survival for anyone except by winning. Robert holds to the fact that he was fighting a righteous war, but the truth is far more murky. Which is why it's so interesting.

@@djsosonut We don't know all of the facts(I am referring to the books), the show indicates that Ned knew and kept his promise to his sister in keeping Jon safe; Ned knowing Robert's hatred towards the Targaryens purposely soiled his reputation to prevent what would have led to a fight to the death between Robert and Ned(Robert would have killed Ned Stark and Jon Snow and maybe even himself afterward). But back to your point Robert was not in on the lie he was motivated by love, anger, friendship and betrayal(Robert being a cousin to Rhaegar).
Yes the event known as Robert's rebellion was a colossal tragedy, Winterfell lost their Lord and his heir; Catelyn Tully(Stark) lost Brandon(she mentions him quite a bit in the books) whom she was supposed to marry. Ned lost a father, brother, sister and possibly his true love in Ashara Dayne(he was forced to marry Catelyn Tully to honor the pact made between both houses) twice first when he married Cat and second when she killed herself. Ashara Dayne lost her brother Ser Arthur Dayne who was killed by Ned Stark, the man she allegedly loved, which if to be believed caused her to commit suicide afterward. Robert lost his true love Lyanna Stark, fought and killed his kin(the Targaryens), married a woman he didn't love(Cersi), struck with depression he slowly began to drink himself to death; Jaime Lannister lost his honor(which to him is everything) when he killed the man he was sworn to protect and Dorne lost Elia and her children to Tywin Lannister's brutality, everybody lost in Robert's Rebellion, the victory was a hollow victory for the victors.

The video is beautifully made but Rhaegar and Lyanna were still in the wrong here.
Lyanna was betrothed to Robert Baratheon. She decided to run off with Rhaegar and didn't tell anyone and Rhaegar dishonored his wife and children by abandoning them and then annulling his marriage to Ellia Martell in private (I bet the Dornish would've loved that). And then rumors started about Rhaegar kidnapping Lyanna so Brandon Stark went to King's Landing and he and his father were killed and the Mad King asked for Robert and Ned's heads next.
It's understandable because true love but Robert's Rebellion kinda happened because of Rhaegar and Lyanna broke their promises (and the Mad King is a psycho no doubt).
