    What do you guys think of the *almost* fully blacked out ZR2?

  • @ericautz9975
    @ericautz9975 Год назад +6

    Just a quick note. Make sure you use silicone II. Silicone 1 (smells like vinegar) can corrode contacts. It isn't for metal contact. Silicone II has a bit of an ammonia scent and is metal compatible.

    • @ryanduclos6455
      @ryanduclos6455 Год назад

      So I accidentally used silicone 1 on my taillights. I’m I actually going to run into issues or will I probably be fine?

    • @ericautz9975
      @ericautz9975 Год назад

      If it's done just watch it. The acid disapates when the silicone cures. If it touched bare metal you may have some issue down the road. Hopefully you get lucky!

    Hoping for some help with this install. Thanks to this video I was ok doing the dielectric grease, silicone, heat shrink tubing. But I'm stuck with disconnecting the stinkin' taillight wiring harness. I got under the truck ('16 Colorado Trail Boss) and guessed wrong at how the harness unclips, and ended up breaking off the red tab. I was able to pry out the broken red bits, but the harness won't come apart. It's like it's glued on. I tried on the other side, that time pushing the red tab back correctly, but that connection won't come apart either. I yanked so hard I broke that red tab off too when it was extended to the open position. I yanked on the connections on both sides a ton, but they're not coming loose. I found a video online showing the disconnect, and it looks like a baby could do it. Am I missing something here? Could they be glued together? Is it just dirt, dust locking them together?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  2 года назад +1

      You are not missing anything, they are really on there. Could be dirt and dust holding it together but keep messing with it and you'll get it. Instead of pulling straight apart try wiggling it as well as you're pulling. It will come off. If it makes you feel any better, I broke my red tabs, too lol

    First thank you for your video's your ZR2 is coming along awesome. I picked up a 2021 Colorado RST in Satin Steel less than two weeks ago, I think it looks great. Other than some emblem changes and Tonneau cover I want to up grade to LED lighting. Lasfit has a complete exterior LED package minus the rear turn signals, so I called them to ask why? They said a few Colorado owners were having error messages on their dash board when changing rear turn signals. Have you heard of this and if you have what do you think can cause this?

    • @HorsePowerObsessed
      @HorsePowerObsessed  3 года назад +2

      Canbus issues can cause errors on the dash but all the LEDs I've done so far have not caused any problems. I, personally, would get aftermarket tail lights versus getting LEDs for the stock tails. The biggest problem is they are going to hyperflash in the rear without wired in resistors if you get LEDs for the stock unit.

    Quick question- How has your weatherproofing/sealing for your tail/3rd lights held up since the time you installed them? I am purchasing Spyder tail and Lumen 3rd light for my canyon and all reviews are full of people complaining of corrosion and total dysfunction as early as 3 months - clearly it seems they did not waterproof them. Also, I have called a few professional installers in Houston, TX and they refuse to weather proof/seal the connectors as you describe it in your video because "it's would be way too expensive and time consuming" eventhough their pricing for basic labor is already $150 (without weather proofing or sealing anything).

      Literally the definition of dielectric grease: "Dielectric grease helps create extra insulation for electrical connectors, prevents arcing and is ideal for any electrical connections with rubber gaskets."
      "So dielectric grease is often found around electrical systems, where it can be used to lubricate connectors, seal gaps, and thwart corrosion by preventing moisture ingress. Better still, dielectric grease can typically withstand extreme heat cycles, which makes it a smart choice to stop plastic and rubber parts from fusing together in high-temperature environments, like, say, in an engine bay."
      All of this is to say, put it in the electrical connection with the rubber seals inside. I have been, and everyone I know has been using it this way for years. It's all good. It seals it and helps keep water out as well as aiding against any kind of corrosion on the contacts. Can't say I trust a youtube channel with 700 subs telling me otherwise.
