    Had a chuckle at the babydoll PJs, lol. My sister and I had some of those as kids in the summertime, not so much as we got older. As an old timer, I sure do remember all of the products.

      Mercurochrome was widely used for wounds when I was a kid but the government banned it from OTC in 1998 due to the mercury content and it is only avail. thru prescription now.

    Love it! For the record: Clearasil was invented in the United States in 1950 by Ivan Combe with the help of chemist Kedzie Teller. At this time, it was the first dermatological brand created specially for younger skin to fight against pimples (acne).
    So it's just likely older commercials weren't available!

    Gary Merrill speaks for Unguentine. Verne Smith speaks for Pepto-Bismol. Ralph Bell
    speaks for Vicks. The Clearasil ads are from the 1980s, but the product was introduced in the late 1960s.

    Todays commercials are never for OTC products . They are Rx meds directed to consumers to have their physician prescribed to them .

    • @conniewilkinson9347
      @conniewilkinson9347 4 месяца назад +1

      That's because the drug companies don't really want you to buy OTC. They make more money when it has to be prescribed.

    In the 1960s, Pepto Bismol was not the shocking pink that it is today. It was more subtle. What that tells me is that they put more dyes in today.

    Those Clearasil ads are from the '80s, just a shade less than 60 years ago. Good selection of commercials though.

    3 S Tonic? Geritol? PeptoBismal should be still in business? Vicks Inhalers?

    • @luisreyes1963
      @luisreyes1963 4 месяца назад

      Pepto-Bismol is now a Bayer brand. Geritol is now made by Mylan. Vicks stopped making inhalers in 2009 due to concerns it can be converted to raw methamphetamine.

    What is this Unguentine junk? In the 1960s I never saw commercials like that. Maybe these are for the East Coast. I saw and grew up with Bactine.
    ,and I live on the West Coast, and I have yet to find those Brand X commercials I saw often enough in the early 1960s; what happened to them, were they erased? 😢

    • @conniewilkinson9347
      @conniewilkinson9347 4 месяца назад +1

      You're probably right about those commercials being for the east coast of the US. Companies usually ran commercials in certain markets only before (or instead of) going national with them. I remember Unguentine & Solarcaine commercials when I was young and I live(d) in the eastern part of the US.

    7:51 I don't think that Clearasil commercial would air this day and age. I think they would find themselves liable for some people doing "something stupid", if you know what I mean!

    How did a Clearsil ad from either the '70s or '80s get into a video for commercials from SIXTY years ago?? Normally, I would have given the whole thing a big thumbs down, but because the rest of the video is so great, I gave it a thumbs up instead.
