How to solve water sloshing noises or water ingress into the footwells in a Renault Kangoo

- If you can hear water sloshing around while driving, or if left too long, you will eventually get water inside the cabin, in the foot wells and soaking the carpets. The problem is normally caused by the drain holes being blocked. This video shows you how to clear the drain holes and shows you were the water gets in.

Noticed leaking on my newer kangoo coming through footwell and found your video. I did it without taking wipers off and flicked the bung and it flushed out. Thank you so much.

I had the same problem with my Mercedes Citan Van. I was searching for ages for any mercedes videos..no luck, figured might as well try to search for Renault Kangoo instead.. instant sucess :) Thank you very much for this video. I have the steering wheel on the left hand side so water was dripping right above the gas pedal right onto my shoe, but not any more :)

Gonna give this a go tomorrow. I thought It was from the ariel seal. (Which is leaking from) but since I put my blowers on and hear sloshing and witnessed it running from under the passenger footwell. I think I've found my problem.

Brilliant! I was trying to solve the problem from inside the car, above the footwell. No chance! This video put me right. The problem arose when the Kangoo was parked under trees for a long time and there was also torrential rain.

I just had this problem on a Renault Clio.. i thought it was the AC making a shooshing noise.. i have had problems with wiper arms so work in the tray done before.. when opened was like a paddling pool. Both drain holes and bungs completely blocked :(. Is this a common Renault issue?
Its common on all vehicles if you park your car under trees.

@@GoGreenAutos This design fault has bugged me for three years. I reported the water slushing going round corners. I thought it was the AC system. I then had problems with my electrics, and basically disabled the sound system, mainly because something was draining the battery (shorting). Each time I took it into the garage I described what was happening. Finally, there was a loud bang and the heating system stopped working. Last winter was a nightmare! Now one of the seat bolts has rusted through and the footwell is still soaked and then my mechanic told me about the palaver of clearing the drain. I think he hates Renaults but I am mad because if I had thought the cure was as simple as this then I'd still have a perfectly good car which now I can only afford to have scrapped. Sometimes I also feel that mechanics just think women make up the noises. I have been driving since 1972 and worked on my earlier Austins, Morris's and Rovers. Most of the noises I have identified have been an accurate detection. This is the first Renault that I have owned and possibly the last despite enjoying the versatility of the Scenic interior and driving position.
@@claredove5017 Its not just Renaults...its modern car design. A mechanic should have cleared the drain holes. Its not a difficult job (as shown).

Yesterday i bought tip top nicely equiped kangoo 1.6 petrol which was unfortunately parked under the tree for few weeks and just today we were hit by heavy rain and our floor flooded..tomorrow ill clear it myself thanks to your video!!!! Just came ot on lunch break to find my passenger footwell about 2-3 inches deep in water (never had any dribbles or leaks before). What a stupid feature in the car. Thanks for the fix.
I do this clean out on every Kangoo that comes in now, regardless of the age.

I have this problem with 2006 Renault Clio, no water inside car, lots of sloshing from dash, now affecting the wiring or computer? I think, as lights and wipers behaving strangely, on when not switched on.
Yes happens on all Renaults (and many others) if the drain channels are blocked.
Just found water in the passenger footwell of my Kangoo 😭... But im sure this is the exact problem as it was just after I washed it today... I thought it might have been a windscreen seal issue... But im sure it is blocked drain pipes....and my heater is not working (again!).. its probably been taken out by the water!!!
Sounds like the same problem. The tray behind the windscreen will be full and then leaking into the van. Unlikely to be a seal. It will just be blocked drains.
When you say your heater is not working, is that the heater or just no fan?
@@GoGreenAutos its the heater.. ZERO heat (again!!) I have aircon and the Eberspacher aux Heater.. It will be the 3rd replacement. It is getting rather annoying (and COLD!)..
Great video. Do you know of any reason why water can be getting in the boot? Ive got berlingo and the left side of the floor is wet, cant work out why.

Noooo, nooo, no, the wipers come off using only your hands! No force whatsoever! There's a spring underneath the wiper arms, push down with your hand and the wiper will jump off! I was shocked when I first saw that on the Twingo, before I also thought that some special tools were needed, but that's not the case. :D
They're bolted down on a tapered spline, so I'd be surprised if what you say is correct and a spring can release them. But I will have a look at a Kangoo's wiper arms again as I have a few of these vans in stock. @@GoGreenAutos I have never done it on a Kangoo, so I will not say for 100%, but watching your video carefully, the wiper arms mechanism, together with the nut and tapered spline, looks exactly the same as for the Renault Twingo II, so I'd be surprised if it worked differently. Once you unscrew the nut, the wiper arm is dead solid on the spindle and will not move at all. That's because it's veeery slightly tilted on the spindle ... it's not a perfect right angle, maybe it's 89° instead of 90°. The trick is to push down on the wiper arm joint, a few inches from the spindle, where the spring is located. That will flatten the arm, causing it to lay at 90° on the spindle, and at that exact moment, the arm will start to move freely along the spindle and you'll be able to take it off. :)
When I first did this on the Twingo, I spent 3 hours trying to get them off with force, using a hammer and all sorts of tools (unfortunately I didn't have the proper tool you bought). So I took the car to a Renault garage to borrow the tool, but the guys there were a bit puzzled and said "you don't need any tools to get the wipers off the Twingo". So a guy came, put his hand on the wiper and voila, a second later it was off. I was totally shocked, it seemed like magic. I think you should really give this a try! Unfortunately I don't have that car around now, so I can't show you ... The easiest test is to put the wiper back on the spindle, once you have it off. If you can put it on the spindle using nothing but your hands, then you can also take it off in the exact same way.
Like I said, I will not guarantee 100% that the Kangoo has the exact same method, but from this video, it seems that it does. So maybe it's worth taking a look, it might save you a lot of effort in the future if you're dealing with Renault vehicles. :)
