I had an aquarium last year due to this problem. Arnold Clarke charged £800 to take the carpets out, and ‘fix’ the drains. I’ve just spotted the water again on the mats. Going to get it sorted today and man I’m I thankful for this video. If only you had made it 4/5 months earlier!!
Great video. This was really helpful. A couple of my findings in case it helps anyone out there. My car is a 58 plate UK RHD. So its getting old!. The plastic side parts that goes to the windscreen could be pulled upward without any tools. Those came out with a bit of gentle force. The main problem i had was unblocking the drain pipes and wiper arm removal. Getting the wiper arm nuts off was easy but the arms refused to come off after years of corrosion, even with WD40 applied. Had to buy a pulling tool from a local shop (as you suggested), and that then did the trick. Drivers side drain pipe was blocked but unblocked easily using stiff bit of copper wire with tape wrapped around the end so it wasn't sharp. But the passenger side was totally blocked and would not shift. In the end, i used boiling hot water in the hole and a plumbers cleaning tool, like a brush on a flexible pipe. Eventually it shifted it!. Loads of black crud came out the bottom.. Then finished up with a hose pipe and flushed both drains through. Done. Now how does this long rubber seal clip back into place along the scuttle tray? Just seems to sit there without any clips along the front? assume it just sits there..
Thanks for the extra info. Re that rubber seal... think it's supposed to clip onto the sound deadening moulding, but on mine that moulding has lost it's rigidity so I have that moulding cable tied to the plastic cowling to hold it in place, then the rubber seal, in the centre portion anyway, just sits on top. I've had it like that for a few years now!
@@iofix That makes sense, yes the sound deading on mine is also totally floppy in the middle area and wont fix to the rubber seal. So cables ties it is !! Cheers.
Between rubber seal and plastic panel I have a lot of free space, something isnt right. I see that you used black plastic bladder to connect them. How did u do it? I would need to make hole somewhere..
Thanks for the video. I just bought an old megane 2 second hand, and I guess the owner conveniently didn't tell me about water coming in. Indeed both drains were clogged up, had to use a pipe cleaner to clear it up. Hope theres no permanent damage.
Tremendous job mate. I was getting condensation inside the car for the last few weeks and eletrical issues as well and this trick did it. The drains were simply clogged and I had no idea how to access them. Cheers!
Hi there! An old lady from the countryside asked me about this, she's neighbor with my grandparents, the car is far away but I said I'll look on the internet and help her this weekend, she said that the headlights often burn out and that she hears electric short sounds at the turn signals, also when turning, she can hear water. (Exactly like in the video) Are these problems similar to those encountered by you at the electrical part? did you have to do anything else to the car or was unclogging the drains enough? Thank you!
Very insightful, thank you very much, i'll be buying that little hook along some new plastic clips for those i've broken prior to past repairs. I'll be glad once it's all fixed. :)
I had that issue and it was the AC condensate drain, full of mud from mud dauber wasps. I had to replace some of those clips and the dealer got four euro each. A few years later Lidl brought in a smorgasbord pack of plastic automotive fasteners for 12 euro. I have found that an old fashion speedometer cable does an excellent job for cleaning drains and fishing wires under the carpet or around the headliner.
Good video, do this every year as drivers side blocks. Passenger side better and bottom of the drain is behind wheel arch liner so easy to get out and clean the mud at the other end.
Great vid sir, i wanna do that too. Where does the water come out from? Near the tires? Or it just falls of from near the drain. Maybe im not clear, where does the drain pipe end?
Has your car got a sunroof? If so most cars will have drains running from the front and back of the drip tray. While not impossible it's not likely to be loose clamps or split pipes. Probably a similar issue to here. Run the pipes through with an old length of bicycle cable outer ling enough to reach all the way and flush with clean water during and after. If not no sunroof check the aerial gasket on the roof, make sure it's clean and tight (don't over do the large base nut, they're pretty soft!) you can use a smear of sealant to help seal it. Also check the grommets etc where any electrical cables/harnesses pass between the doors and boot lid to the body. The rear washer pipe also runs along the sill so check that it isn't leaking. Finally and unlikely to be the culprit as it's the rear but you never know:ake sure the Aircon unit drain is clear and properly located. Good luck!
@@iofix thanks so much, managed to resolve the problem in the front foot wells. However it is still coming in to the rear foot wells. Any advice on how to resolve this? It might be the excess still needing to drain away
Great Vid. I will be doing this! I've just bought a 2012 megane expression. All the footwells are damp as well as the baseboards in the boot and in the spare tyre compartment. Are there similar drain holes at the rear of the car too?
Just a suggestion why not cut holes big enough for the drain cleaner tool and then you don’t have to remove all the plastics and the wiper you can just use the hose and the tool to clean the gutter drain. There’s already some holes in the top plastic it just needs another two to have direct access above the gutter
Watched this to find out how to stop the bonnet seal sagging down. Cable tie cure! Made me chuckle😸 It seems every Megane 2 suffers from this. Poor design renault. It allows water to overflow onto the engine! I'm trying to figure out a different kind of fix.
It all seems to make perfect sense, is this the same for Renault fluence? The whole arrangement in that car seems quite similar to me. Have water flooding into the passenger side of the car clearly coming from underneath this part of the car. Pretty sure it's the same kind of block of the drainage

Hi! Thanks for the great video. I've been having problems with moisture inside of my car during winter and I'm guessing this could be the problem. I'll definetly try to fix it this way. I already took a short look at engine bay and I noticed that the piece of fabric on which the rubber seal normally sits is completely degraded. The rubber seal doesn't slot onto it properly anymore. Do you have any idea of what you call that piece? I'd like to replace it as well. Thanks in advance!
Hi, no I'm afraid I don't - although mine is the same and has been for about 2 years now! - I've got it just roughly held in plase using a couple of cable ties - I think you can see them in the video! :)
Hi mate. Trying to use an auger (the plumbing tool) but no luck. It keeps getting struck on something and I can't get through. I'm not sure if it's a blockage or if these scuttle drains have bends? And perhaps I'm stuck on a bend and I need another sort of tool I don't know. I'm not sure what these drains look like so it's hard to know all I see is a hole. Is there any trick to this? We're you able to push your auger straight through with no bend?
Hello, yes I remember mine pushing through quite easily... I would try pouring some water down there to soften in up followed by some compressed air - u can use a tyre inflater if u don't have a proper compressor. good luck.
