I have always dreamed of becoming an astronaut and have done so since I was a child. 🚀 I remember reading a book with my sister when I was 5 years old with an astronaut floating in the vacuum of space. ✨ I knew then that I was going to dedicate my life to this. As I grew up, this profession seemed less and less possible and unimaginable but thanks to Thomas, in 2016, I was finally able to understand that I was missing out on an incredible dream. 🙏 Today, I am only 16 years old and I clearly have little experience, but believe me, if ESA were to make another selection in the years to come, I would not censor myself and I would go for it, representing the colours of my country, France, in the ISS. Thank you for inspiring us every day, ESA, we love you ! ❤ PS : good luck to applicants and hang on tight, the next generation is assured ! 😉💪

There is no simple route, or straightforward list of qualifications - there are no schools or university courses for astronauts, or specific jobs that you should do. Yet you should aim to be the best at whatever you do, and it helps of that is in a scientific or technical discipline. The more skills and experience you have, the better. You should also be physically fit, with an affinity for teamwork and adaptability, fluent in English but good in other languages, possibly with knowledge of Russian. See: bit.ly/HowToBecomeAnAstronaut

Unfortunately the dream dies for a lot of people because of things that they can't change. When I was still young enough to potentially pursue such a career I wanted to be an astronaut. Unfortunately I was too tall to fit in any sort of cockpit so that was that. Now all I can hope for is that space tourism will be a thing, and that I can afford it, before I die. Don't fool yourself - not every career is open to everyone no matter how hard you're willing to work for it.
considering there are new class every 10/12 years, you'll be able to take the next train for ESA class. And looking at the next steps we are about to make, you're born right on time to perhaps put your boots on the Moon and Mars. Well, after studying hard and good and being selected. Good luck!
Unfortunately, only citizens of ESA Member and Associated States can work with us. But if you still want to work in space look up some of the many contractor companies that design or build satellites, conduct technology research and engineering, or employ people to work in other areas of the space business, such as science, project control, PR/communications or administration. Also check universities and research institutes.
It is the most beautiful thing you can achieve as a person, the realization of your dreams.

It would be nice to operate a spacecraft using Si standards instead of British or utilizing both. Even as a simulator.

ESA is pathetic, no launches from Europe, no European space crews, little innovation etc. It's an embarrassment.
