Lest we forget. . Eric Korngold. The most underrated composer of the last 200 years. This song is not a one off fluke. He was a cast iron genius who deserves a place in the highest ranks.

In this brilliant arrangement of "Marietta's Song" Ms. von Otter and her colleagues have taken us to that place in artistry and beauty that the world disappears. One of the most perfect 6 minutes you likely to ever experience.

Korngold was just 22 when wrote this.Just where he got the depth of feeling, and the hearts wiseness is something we may never know.We can only let it seep into our souls and inspire and console us..

She is holding back and is immensly disciplined. The Swedish string quartet is doing very well as well. Von Otter is often described as cold and a perfectionist...There is nothing cold about this...

So touching. I started to tear-up at about the 56 second mark. Is that wrong? A good antidote to so much of the barbarity that passes for popular culture now. Anne-Sophie von Otter, not only has technique, she has taste, and genuine emotion. Plus, such a noble face!

Beat Zbinden Ich denke deine Geschichte macht Sinn.

Elizabeth- You are absolutely correct! Anne Sofie is one of the great artists of our generation. She is utterly without pretension, musically and personally, as befits someone who has an absolutely clear knowledge of what is important and what is mere nonsense. She has never done anything at less than the highest standard, and I'm in love with her too- and so is my wife!

John O'Leary Because it says,' Joy, that proved so true / Hold me fast, my faithful love. /Now the evening comes on, gray- But you are all my light and day. /Heart on heart, they beat as one ; Hope flies heavenward again. /...How true it is, that sad old song; Of faithful lover, dead and gone./ Oh yes, now I recall the song/ In younger days, in happier times, I heard it sung. / How does it go? ..Clouds may loom above; Hold me fast, my faithful love. Lie now close upon my heart- those who love, death cannot part. / When the time comes, then one must go. / You will rise again, I know!'
