The only people who could still speak English fluently were those of my generation who went to English-medium schools. English was the primary language spoken in non-governmental offices during the time I was still working. I believe that if he interviewed members of the current generation in big cities, at least they could understand him. Whatever their liberal viewpoint may be, it makes no difference.

Many nations have known since long ago that USA is an evil empire. USA and its allies have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civillians in Hiroshima, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine etc. not forgetting Native Americans. Whenever this manipulative empire murder civillians they call it casualties of war but when freedom fighters of occupied lands retaliate they label them terrorists? The USA is the actual biggest terrorist on the planet that have caused death, suffering and poverty to other nations. Perpetual sinners and still counting. For example at the moment US proxy Israel is continuing their genocide since 75 years ago. For the record it is actually permissable and justifiable for freedom fighters to repel their murderer occupiers by any means. That is only LOGICAL God damn it! and that ain't terrorism coz its not a fresh case, it has a long ugly history of genocide and oppression. Damn u and your allies for spreading lies forever. F**k your rubbish rhetorics!!! Curse be upon u till eternal hell fire !

As a Malaysian who lived in America for 4 years, I would say that America, especially NYC, is highly overrated. KL infrastructure is 10 times better and cleaner compared to NYC. Gadgets and vehicles prices are 4 times cheaper but the cost of living overall is pretty much the same (for the same average salary). Medical cost though is way2 better and more accessible in Malaysia. There are also so many homeless people and drug addicts in America, so I feel unsafe when going outside especially at night. On the good side, majority of Americans are open minded and more open especially those in the east coast (NY, PH, FL, etc) and west coast (CA, Wash, etc) states. However, many are narcissistic when comparing America to the rest of the world, they think America is the best country and dictates what's right and what's not for the whole world. People in US are more confident and outspoken, but somehow very bad in geography... like they never learn anything about other countries outside of the US in school. Majority of the Americans I spoke to never heard of Malaysia lol. America is a purely capitalist country where the markets dictate the prices of goods including fuels, food, etc whereas in Malaysia it's kind of mix economy where there are some stuffs which the government control the price and provide subsidies... perhaps this might be the reason why Americans are more creative and excel in marketing. The geography is one of my favourite things about the US where you can experience all sorts of terrains and seasons - snow, desert, beach, forest, etc - in the same country. Overall, I'm kind of neutral towards the US. The US Government though, that's a different story... a bad one.

I met low quality neighbor who woke up whole neighborhood with their stupid party at midnight and people who thought Asia only consist of China, Japan and Korea, at the other end, I also met smart very smart university students who already involved in high end research in their bachelor time. Regarding the infrastructure of NYC, yes it’s a bit outdated but considering that their train were built hundred years ago, I was amazed. They have many normal people like us who only doing normal jobs but their talented people are way more talented than I can imagine and those geniuses are the one who really leading the progress of technology, and they stay in US.

Unfortunately majority of Malaysian younger generations did not know much about US (in general). I've been to US quite a few times both for business and leisure since 90s and latest being 2018, I would say if you follow a group tour there it should be fine but if you travel there alone, either male or female, better not nowadays. The insecurity is high for real. American people (citizens, not millions of illegal immigrants) are generally similar to majority of the world, they're generally nice people but suffering, especially those in the low to middle income categories due to high costs of living the last few years particularly. Guns, drugs and poverty are main issues in the US nowadays and the direction of the entire country is controlled by those top 1% elites and oligarchs, heck even politicians are controlled by these groups which created the sufferings of majority of the low to middle income groups.
US is at the stage where the next 3 to 5 years will be critical economically, possibly sooner if the top 1% guys do not want to refocus back to its domestic economy improvements. Do more research Malaysians, general Americans are nice people, it's the top guys that are giving the world headaches by creating tons of issues, politically, militarily and sanctions.

How else do you get someone like don T to be in power? You'd be wrong to think that their national policies shaped by their national security agenda is something new. It has always govern their foreign, economic. military and trade policies all along. The elected leaders have to conform to these well established doctrine no matter which party they belong to.

I have to say... U.S.A. has successfully conducted their 'globalization' project - penetrating into core cultures in so many different countries. The US has exported their music (Taylor Swift, Billie Elish, etc.), movies, RUclipsrs, food, culture, brands (Nike, i-Phones, The NBA, politics and so on) so successfully that most people who are interviewed here are having a parasocial love for the USA (there was even one person who was baffled the USA never showed love towards S.E.A. countries).
This interview just proves how the USA has changed the culture of the Millennials and Gen-Z generations very deeply. Ask a Malaysian to name 10 traditional music instruments in Malaysia and I bet you that 90% of them can't do so.
    On another note:
What I think of America: They see China as a threat and wants to be no.1 in the world.. I'm like, what's wrong with China being an industrious country? Just let them be hard working and mind your own business.
My impression of Americans: A narcissist country that thinks they need to be the policeman of the world. Telling other countries what to do and who to be friends with. To be honest, if Malaysia wants to do business with Russia and China, what's the problem? The Western media makes it sound like it's a bad thing.

If your livelihood along with thousands of others isn't affected when the PRC steals your country's rightful EEZ, then I can see why you think that way. As for business, they have a winner-takes-all mentality. When they set up shop outside of the PRC, they had no intention of contributing to the local economy or creating jobs. From labor to supplies, everything is sourced from their country. The same goes for construction projects. From the management team down to the grunts to the entire catering crew and supplies, all from china; even the freaking toilet paper.

if you offer me to become an American citizen with a free house package, a free luxury car, of course I will reject it because for me America is not a safe place to live, there are too many murder crimes, gun shootings in schools and public places, your life is not safe. imagine a case of murder, the offender is only imprisoned unless they have killed many people before being sentenced to death, if in malaysia owning 2 pistols is sentenced to death, if 1 case of murder, the offender is still sentenced to death

In SF Bay Area there are so many Asians, so I really feel at home there🥰 I once had chance to visit NY city and spent about 2 weeks there. I don't know much compare to where I studied but the impression I felt was it was really the mecca of many capital city around the world(KL, Jakarta, Taipei, Seoul) where there are many skyscrapers and people are busy with their own business. I don't feel SAFE in New York. .... (from some one who has been there). Used to study & live in California -- it has CHANGED for the worse. Dad used to say - you can go anywhere in America but NOT Los Angeles 😐. Was sent there alone to find my way through university and living. No handholding. Was definitely eye-opening and a personal journey of discovery with rewards despite the dangers that I was warned about. I still manage visits to America to visit old friends and to discover new places. I do like the open-ness of its people even though I know that some may not be receptive at the moment due to geo-political reasons. Nothing personal - just the state of the world right now. There is a lot to learn from each other - wherever in the world. Take the best experiences and knowledge and apply! That is the approach.

Americans value individual pride & freedom of expression, a striking contrast to Malaysians' very moderate & tolerance culture. Western ideologies reward & encourage the nonconformist, welcome new ideas, and thus encourages entrepreneurship.
In Malaysia, we do not discuss sensitive topics like politics & religion. People don't usually make their political inclination or stance known in public, sometimes not even among family members. You very seldom see critical or controversial opinions on social media, unless posted anonymously. Activists of any kind will not see the light of day.
It becomes most evident on voting day. Malaysian crowds will stand in line outside the voting stations, in complete & total silence. Everyone just wearing a straight poker face. No one is talking. The power to vote is all that matters.
Donald Trump is America's hope for a final stand in 2024 to preserve liberty & founding principles of the free world & bring freedom & prosperity back to the people.

To me US is a democratic country, it is an eye-opener for me to witness how you guys choose your president, from their own party then to the debate.
If Malaysia could have an election to choose our own president, it will be great. But we’re following the British’s system.
Having said that, it’s a good democratic system, but sometimes this system might fail (Trumps) 😅

The people you interviewed all seem relatively young - below 25 I guess. Next time please try to include older, more matured people especially those who have travelled or studied in western countries. They would have more first hand experience and knowledge of Americans and westerners in general - rather than from social media and movies like these young people here.

I actually asked just as many older Malaysians but they were simply not interested. Either they seemed busy, had kids, or simply had no interest in participating. I was also at a busy intersection in Bukit Bintang so I believe I could get a better response in some more local areas.

@@benfishermin Oh ok. Unfortunately that location is not where Malaysian corporate and academic guys hang around. Perhaps you could go to one of university campuses, say University of Malaya situated just outside KL, to interview lecturers and students there? Or at one of the social clubs - Selangor Club, Royal Lake Club, RSGC?

They are way too young and they got no life experience and they know nothing about living in the west and are so easily influenced. The older Malaysian people were right, they want nothing to do with this craze fool interviewer!

I think maybe you can have a second interview session and ask more people of older age like 30s and above. These youngsters’ answers seems more towards entertainment. It will be very great if we can hear answers more about the American people and less about entertainment and movies and stuff

Im Malaysian American and proud of my Malaysian roots. Because we are multicultural we adapt more easily to the US culture which is very multicultural and cosmopolitan better than other immigrants
However Malaysians are much more influenced by America than they admit especially the more self perceiving 'intellectuals' and educated amongst the journalists who rant against the United States. For example if you listen to the BFM local radio station and mix with academics they all criticize America but 95% of their consumption is in terms of concepts, theories, idioms, memes and so on I American. I have no problem I wish they would come here to the US and see for themselves how Asians thrive especially Indo Americans.

In my opinion, American appreciate art like music, painting, film, ceramic etc. in very high level, in comparison we can never see that kind of appreciation among Malaysian.

I have lived in the us doing my study in the 80s for more than 5 yrs. My impression on the americans back then were awesome. People were nice and so well mannered regardless of racial background, gender or age. In that western world I used to live the words thank you, please and sorry work like magic if you're asking for help.
Now if someone ask me what is my thought on americans I honestly dont know how to respond. I have seen about "go back to where you come from" videos, karens, road rages, racial and religious slurs, school children and rainbow things, and other unfathommable things. Not to mention on how the american people view on freedom and peace or how they see the world outside the states. These really make me missed the uncle sam I used to know.
The year is 2024 and I am a senior malaysian man already. Much have become irrelevant to me. I just loved the americans the way I saw them in the 80s. But now I have no clue.
Edited the word peace instead of piece.
