I run about 16 wifi devices, like wyze cams, laptops fire sticks ect. All at the same time, this doesn't skip a beat. Very happy with it.
Really really really love that you put up charts at the end around the 9 minute mark to show everyone the speeds of the overall best to worst from top to bottom. Really narrows it down for us in a sea of not knowing what the fuck to choose

Had the RAX200 since it came out and has been nothing but problems. Have gone through several units and many hours working with Netgear engineers in Asia through remote desktop even. Last night we decided enough is enough and getting the ASUS, at the same Microcenter too. Great vid.
@@jaron2139 Much better. I do not have random disconnects from the wired connections which was my biggest issue since I game online a lot. I do have a couple gripes though: I still have random disconnects from Wifi, and channels not authenticating, but that is probably something on my end as the Netgear did the same thing. I also have to reboot the router once a week or so, mostly on the weekends. I am assuming it is due to the amount of devices being used, but I start having slow connections. FYI, I am a gamer mostly, and far from an expert on this stuff so the issues I am having may be my fault entirely for not setting up router better. Overall I am much happier with the performance, and my only regret is not getting the newer Wifi 6e version.

I use an Asus wifi6 router myself. Started on Dlink way back and they started to fail. Went to Netgear and it was great until the firmware started going weird for me. Moved to Asus recently and it's been rock solid so far.

Great video! Ended up getting the Asus AX11000 from Micro Center (used to go to Fry's as it was closer but we know that story) and I love it. I had the AC5300 previously but an antenna got snapped off it, luckily both routers support Asus Ai mesh so now the 5300 is working pretty well as an extender for my outside cameras.
I understand this video is more about the hardware of these routers but the software with some of these routers are what makes it for me. Personally it's difficult to change from the Nighthawks with DumaOS. DumaOS has an insane amount of features.
I have to agree. The DumaOS I had on my Netgear XR500 was the selling point for me, and it worked great until the router stopped receiving a signal just short of two years of use. I upgraded to the Netgear XR1000 with DumaOS 3.0, and good lord the amount of stuff you can do with it.
If majority of gamers actually make the smart decision to connect via ethernet from a gigabit port, which most modern routers have even the ones included from your ISP, you wouldn't really need a new router though unless you really play over WiFi. Great review as always Chris!
Your contents are really good. Especially your testing and mentioning of price for each item. After watching more and more videos now I'm leaning towards Asus and Netgear. Just trying to figure out which one is offering network security and better parent controls. I like TP-link as they are offering lots of features but their speed is lagging behind not a future proof. Maybe 6E version will be worth to wait.
Just a heads up. Netgear provide buyers a 3 month of free customer service and 1 year of hardware warranty. However to get an access of that 1 year warranty, you must purchase a service plan with them which can cost $70-$300 (if your 3 month of customer service is expired). If you do purchase the service and then send it to them for repair. They will verify if their is any issue. If there isn't , you wasted $ and if there is an issue, they send you a refurbished one that doesn't have warranty (repurchase another service if this one breaks again). The fact that you need to buy a additional service plan just to get access of the 1 year hardware warranty (base on the day you originally bought it) defeats the purpose of the device life span.
I have the AMPLIFI ALIEN and I get 960-980 down and around 65 up... Fast! Love it! Rock solid! Enterprise parts inside! It games fast ,fast, fast! a Lot of your speed is determined by your ISP. Keep that in mind!
Oh gotcha, I have spectrum and I’m suppose to get like 200-300mb, and when I test my internet connection on my PS4 get like 60-90 mbs for download & like 2-5 for upload. But I still lagg like a mf lol

On point succinct conclusions and explanations. I'm trying to find either a router and a modem or a router modem combo that will increase my speed and lower my latency of my wifi for specifically for use with my Oculus Quest 2. Xfinity (Comcast) is my only choice as a provider and they cant seem to increase my speed with consistency (after numerous visits) and blame it all on the limitations and speed capabilities of my devices. I am using their provided Gateway (modem router combo currently the XB6 and have had the XB7). Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Don't get a Modem/router combo. I highly recommend that you buy them both separately like I have. You will get much better performance this way, also what kind of speeds are you paying for? If a gig or not buy the netgear cable modem just the cable modem. And if you can afford it buy yourself the netgear nighthawk as well like the one in this video. If you can't afford so you can just go for a lower model.
One thing with Netgear routers is that they are very stable and reliable. I used them for the past 10 years and practally never needs to reboot them. For the moment its a RAX80. I did have ASUS and D-Link previously also and I installed a ASUS at my parents house... they need rebooting once or twice a month!
I understand and appreciate your testing methodology like testing out in the driveway away from the access point and with obstructions in the house in the way. A huge feature of Asus is AiMesh. You can easily improve your coverage by adding in a mesh node. Create a mesh network using many Asus routers using AiMesh. Mix and match for what you want. Even use your old ASUS routers. I have 4 routers in an AiMesh for my 2 story house. I easily cover my house, driveway (as I have a Wi-Fi-connected sensor on my mailbox), and most of my 2 acres with Wi-Fi coverage. Adding a node can be a little finicky, but once you do it is all gravy.

I know they will be pricey as all early adopting kit is. But with the real life testing you do it’ll help us decide if it’s really worth making the jump to it. I have the netgear and it is absolutely crazy. Amazingly good and getting a signal on the 3rd floor up to 500mb! well worth the money. Its important to test out areas in the house where you get overall best connection. Is there a new Netgear router coming out soon? Curious to know!

I almost went TP Link but I caught the Asus AX86U when it popped back in stock and I've been extremely satisfied with it's performance. Not really gaming but it's handling my 50+ constant devices flawlessly

Still love the videos after all these years. I will prob have to wait till next year to upgrade my main ASUS router to a more modern one and downgrade my current one to a AP. ASUS routers are great if you want to Mesh them or AP them later.
Like I've told you, I love my Asus GT-AX11000 for gaming. Handles so many devices. Great Mesh abilities especially with older Asus RT (AC) units and using them as mesh nodes.

Routers are increasingly under attack and auto updates is a good step to mitigate if disaster strikes. Also, I seem to have bad luck, but routers I buy work great for 6mo to a year then start to get flaky in stability and speed. Do you see this in your reviews?
@@kennetharethun8483 True, I don't think a gaming router is needed to make a difference in online gaming at all. I think it's just a marketing thing to sell. But I've had my TP-Link Archer C3200 for about 5 years now going strong and I game online with no lag or issues.

Most people do not get that walls play a huge roll in signal strength. I have a TP-Link router with Wi-Fi six but it's not a gaming router. Best router I've used.

What can cause random disconnection on Wifi? I would be playing online then all of sudden it disconnect me then a few minutes later I'd be able to get back online. I'm also having high ping amounts as well. I currently have 500 up and 500 down internet

Did you buy the emotiva filter I suggested? I have the same setup but haven't hooked anything up yet. I always find it amusing that people who live near a Microcenter assume that EVERYONE has a Microcenter near them "their local Microcenter". There are exactly 25 Microcenters in the United States (so we're already down to 1 for every 2 states) and NONE anywhere else in the world. The US has a population of 328 million people... so by the math, that's one Microcenter for every 13.12 million people... my "local" Microcenter is 331 miles from me (a one-way 5 hour drive), and I live in a major city in Florida. If I had a nickel for every time a Tech Channel told me to visit my local Microcenter for a great deal, I would have enough money to buy the entire chain, and open one up in my town so I could actually visit my local Microcenter. The netgear nighthawk is the better router and clear winner.. 1% better latency over the extra WIFI speed you get with the nighthawk and the strong signal is a no brainer... Nighthawk range is unbeaten!!

Chris, how about a video on the best mesh systems. It is well and good to do do testing on individual routers, but mesh is increasingly important in order to distribute access throughout our homes.
As of Jan 3rd 2022 I'm seeing the TP Link AX11000 for a variety of prices. Amazon 256.88 (sold by TechNGnet) Walmart 314.95 Best Buy 399.99 I don't know whats causing the discrepancy in pricing but based on descriptions they seem to be legit. (You verify if you buy). But could be a sweet deal if you are looking for a great bang for the buck. I just moved out, got to say if if I didn't already have an Asus router I plan to mesh with the ROG11000, the TP Link AX11000 is what I would get.
I think Walmart includes 3rd party sellers that sell through Walmart on their site so some sellers jacking up their prices will show up on the site. I have no idea why Best Buy has jacked up prices though

Switch to the Merlin ASUS firmware and you will be even more impressed. Makes the stock firmware look like a joke compared to Merlin firmware.

Id definitely say asus is the way to go for security and parental control. Their mobile and web app interface is far superior.
Now that Frys is thankfully gone, Micro Center should come to California. Miss Micro Center from when I lived in Minnesota.

Don't get gaming routers. Get a proper Cisco/Mikrotik/Ubiquiti router and access point if you want longevity.
@@kennetharethun8483 True, I don't think a gaming router is needed to make a difference in online gaming at all. I think it's just a marketing thing to sell. But I've had my TP-Link Archer C3200 for about 5 years now going strong and I game online with no lag or issues.

I have the TP Link and it's pretty good for all of my uses. Can't wait to move out of an apartment that isn't made out of cinderblock though, man our walls really kill signals
Most people do not get that walls play a huge roll in signal strength.
I have a TP-Link router with Wi-Fi six but it's not a gaming router. Best router I've used.

What can cause random disconnection on Wifi? I would be playing online then all of sudden it disconnect me then a few minutes later I'd be able to get back online. I'm also having high ping amounts as well. I currently have 500 up and 500 down internet
Sounds like an ISP problem
Try changing wifi channels

Great video . I wish I'd waited before buying my new hardware. On a dif topic CHRIS, did you get that feedback noise coming from your new def tech towers remedied? If so what fixed the problem? Did you buy the emotiva filter I suggested? I have the same setup but haven't hooked anything up yet. I always find it amusing that people who live near a Microcenter assume that EVERYONE has a Microcenter near them "their local Microcenter". There are exactly 25 Microcenters in the United States (so we're already down to 1 for every 2 states) and NONE anywhere else in the world. The US has a population of 328 million people... so by the math, that's one Microcenter for every 13.12 million people... my "local" Microcenter is 331 miles from me (a one-way 5 hour drive), and I live in a major city in Florida. If I had a nickel for every time a Tech Channel told me to visit my local Microcenter for a great deal, I would have enough money to buy the entire chain, and open one up in my town so I could actually visit my local Microcenter. To all the Tech Channels out there... please... if you live near a Microcenter, you already know it and probably go to it... the vast majority of your viewers do NOT live near a Microcenter and its nice you have one and we do not, please stop rubbing it in our faces. No the modem doesn’t matter so spend all your money on the router! Just use the modem that comes from you ISP that will be fine.
Thanks for the info. Right now I’m deciding between tp-link tri-band 12-stream ax11000 wifi 6 router for $300 and tp-link archer axe7800 tri-band wi-fi 6e multi-gig router, 2.5 gbps port for $200. Both are offered at Costco which is where I’m getting them from. Do you think spending the extra $100 is worth it?

The netgear nighthawk is the better router and clear winner.. 1% better latency over the extra WIFI speed you get with the nighthawk and the strong signal is a no brainer... Nighthawk range is unbeaten!!

Chris, how about a video on the best mesh systems. It is well and good to do do testing on individual routers, but mesh is increasingly important in order to distribute access throughout our homes.

I don't know whats causing the discrepancy in pricing but based on descriptions they seem to be legit. (You verify if you buy). But could be a sweet deal if you are looking for a great bang for the buck.
I just moved out, got to say if if I didn't already have an Asus router I plan to mesh with the ROG11000, the TP Link AX11000 is what I would get.
I think Walmart includes 3rd party sellers that sell through Walmart on their site so some sellers jacking up their prices will show up on the site. I have no idea why Best Buy has jacked up prices though
