    San Diego is a desirable location, and there is nowhere left to build. It has an ocean to the west, an international border to the south, a military base to the north, and mountains and desert to the east.

      @Chew5219 theres been a rush to construct 1x5 housing around the metro system, particularly the trolley. As for where, there've been talks of taking housing in the southeast/border area, which in long term may help, but gives some challenges to the ppl already living there

    Public transport is not bad if you live in the places that they go to. I've survived more than a year on public transport with an uber/lyft where the buses or trains don't go to. It's doable. But the smell on some of the public transport and people who get on, can be a nuisance. I try to not sit down on a trolley because it just wreaks. Buses are better.

    Born and raised in San Diego. We have it all and yes it’s very expensive. I remember when very poor people were all those who lived in apartments. Regular poor lived south of the 8 freeway and only took one income to afford. Now, if you can afford your own place (even a studio) you’re now considered middle class 😂 It’s nuts.

    • @DanPBestLifeSD

      Times have definitely changed here in SD

    • @ThePiedra777
      @ThePiedra777 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it's the artificial inflation of housing. It's happening all over the country but here in SD it's among the worse. Yes, most are small investors but large commercial investors set the tone and small landlords follow the trend.

    • @DanPBestLifeSD
      @DanPBestLifeSD  5 месяцев назад

      The truth is the large commercial investors aren’t buying single family homes, they are focused on apartment complexes. I’m not saying they aren’t an issue, but I think restrictive CA policy for more housing, and the fact that we are simply one of the most desirable places to live across the country are the biggest culprits. Add in the addition of more high paying jobs and the ability to work remote, and that’s led us to where we are at today

    • @ThePiedra777
      @ThePiedra777 5 месяцев назад

      @@DanPBestLifeSD, median income per capita in San Diego is around 51,000 pre tax. Average rent for a basic two bedroom apartment with utilities is around 3,200 per month. You need two median incomes to even qualify for a two bedroom apartment and you'd still be living on the edge. This of course doesn't take into account the yearly rental increase of 7%. Also, there are tons of vacancies, just search. The prices have nothing to do with lack of inventory and everything to do with commercial landlords squeezing the life out of people. They pass the cost of having vacant units over to their good tenants when they renew their lease.
      Also, California signed into law Senate bill 4 and will make it easier to build homes in Church land and this doesn't include over 50 bills signed by Newsome to make it easier to build.
      Bottom line, we need to make it illegal for major investors (especially foreign investors) from buying in bulks!

    San Diego, my hometown, became for the wealthy and upper middle class during the late 90's. The county is having a hell of a time recruiting for low-skilled workers due to the high cost of living. I remember so many of my peers' families moving out of the county back in the 90's as well. Our current economic state has made our country, and San Diego, even worse today! If we don't change the way we live, our whole way of life will fall apart, and native born San Diegans will keep having to move out! Awful!!!

  • @spasovskizzz
    @spasovskizzz 3 месяца назад +4

    First its become expensive as hell, you can't even get food and drinks at a decent price anymore, rent is ridiculous, availability is none. Second its full of homeless people everywhere its become a disgusting problem downtown, OB, hillcrest, East village, Chula Vista.. Third, if you are single guy don't come, all the women left cause they can't afford it here, so we call it Man Diego now. Anywhere you go out the ratio is 5 men to 1 woman, its awful, and the women are unattractive, but thats all of USA in general. State income taxes are Trash, DMV is trash, Smog checks are trash, parking police is trash, all this will cost you A LOT!. Housing is unaffordable unless you can spend $1 million+, seriously, thats starting price now. New influx of immigrants is becoming a strain on the city budget so I expect it to go downhill from here. Jobs are also hard to find now since lots of companies leaving California. After 8 years in this city I am done with it and leaving for good. This used to be a conservative city run by a republican mayor and it thrived, once it turned liberal its gone to shit. Other than that, weather is nice, food is great and the people are laid back. You can't swim in the ocean cause its freezing cold 90% of the year so only beach tanning and pool. Rents start at $2,500 for 1 bedroom if you curious to know. There is some cool parks and hiking trails, couple of golf terrains and nearby mountains with some snow in the winter. Thats all.
