Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at, and I'm gonna show you how to install, the etrailer Class III 2-inch Hitch Receiver on our 2022 Ford Transit T250. Adding the hitch receiver to the back of your Ford Transit's gonna allow you to do a couple of different things. It'll allow you to haul a bike rack or a cargo carrier if you have something like a Transit that's converted into a camper van, or if you're like the owner of our van here and you just wanna pull smaller trailers to get to the job site. This is gonna be a great option. I like how the matte black carbide finish on it, it's gonna match all the plastics on our van, so it's gonna look really good and it's gonna help you to haul those accessories.
Our hitch receiver tube opening is gonna be a 2 inch by 2 inch opening, which is the most common size when it comes to accessories or ball mounts, so you should have no problem finding any of those. If you need to pick up some of those, you can look on our website. We've got plenty of options. Now for our hitch pin hole, it's gonna be your standard 5/8 inch hitch pin. The hitch pin and clip do not come with the hitch, but we do have plenty of them on our website.
Locking and non locking. The safety chain loops are going to be very, very wide and large to be able to fit your safety chains of many different sizes. Now some measurements for you so you know what you're getting. From the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our bumpers about 4-1/2 inches. That'll give you a good idea if you pick up an accessory that you wanna fold up to the back of your van, whether or not it's going to successfully do that.
If you watch some of our videos you can see that they'll give you a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole in the accessory to the closest part. Use that 4-1/2 inches compared to that measurement that they'll give you and that'll tell you whether or not that accessory's gonna fit. From the ground to the top inside of a receiver tube, it's 14-1/2 inches, so that'll help you determine what size drop or rise ball mount you might need. And whether or not an accessory, like a bike rack or cargo carrier is gonna drag on the ground. 14-1/2 inches is a pretty good distance off the ground, so you shouldn't have to worry about those accessories dragging.
Now as far as weight capacities go for this hitch, you're going to have a max tongue weight capacity of 900 pounds. That is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. So if you're hauling a trailer, you wanna make sure not to exceed that. And speaking of trailers, your max trailer weight rating is going to be 6,000 pounds. That is the trailer plus the load included. Now this hitch is rated to be able to use weight distribution with it. So if you have a work van like we have here and you wanna pull a box trailer behind you and you use weight distribution on there 'cause you have heavy equipment in there, it's very common. You can load that trailer up to 8,000 pounds. But that is only when you're using weight distribution. To begin our installation we're gonna need to take a 15 millimeter socket, remove the two bolts that are holding our tow loop in place. (drill grinding) Now we're gonna take some penetrating oil, spray it inside each one of these openings. Our frame rail happens to have quite a bit of rock dust and stuff in it and you don't want that interfering with the threads, because after all we're gonna have to use the bolts in the kit in order to self tap into the sleeve that's inside of this. So you'll see it's just an open tube. This one will already have been self tapped because of when the factory puts that tow loop on, but we're gonna have to self tap our bolts into the forward-most one here and then the two on the other side. But we want 'em to be clean before we do that. Now we're gonna take our fish wire with one of our bolts threaded onto it, our carriage bolts, and then you put a spacer block on it. We're gonna need to pull that down through this hole towards the front of the vehicle. So we'll take this. It's easier usually if you slide the spacer block in with it, pull that out. We can leave the fish wire on for whenever we decide to lift our hitch up. We can guide it in a little bit better with this. Now with an extra set of hands, we've got Aiden here to help us out. We're going to fish wire those cables through our hitch, pull that fish wire off, and then get our nut started on both sides to help hold the hitch up into place while we get the rest of our hardware in. And when you get th
