A very generous gentleman mailed this pair of Allen Edmonds to us several months ago and requested that we donate them to a charity. We couldn't let these shoes leave our shop looking like they did, so we decided to give them a little restoration job before sending these off for another life. After a bit of a makeover, these Allen Edmonds look almost brand new. Time for another refurbishment.

Some other reasons for resoling/revamping shoes:
- Support local businesses
- Sustainable shopping (so you don't keep buying leather shoes)
- Investing in high quality shoes means also gives you the purpose to look after them properly.
Great work! I have learnt a lot from your channel :)
You get what you pay for. My grandpa used to say “cheap stuff ain’t good and good stuff ain’t cheap!” Lot of truth in that statement. Good video, and pic out a homeless person to give them to.
Since the pandemic lockdown I’ve gotten hooked on watching dairy cows hoof trimming and high end boot and shoe repairs. I was on vacation last week in a outdoor store checking all the boots and shoes to see how they were made. My wife thinks I’m nuts.
You, too. I watch these guys as well as the HOOF GP. I don't feel weird now. 😊
@@BigDsHomestead Goldshaw farm in Vermont is another good channel. He’s the geese and duck guy. Hee Hee!
Man, my three are boot/shoe rebuilds, ferries, and car detailing...with the occasional power wash or rug wash thrown in. 😅
You want to be hooked on a channel? Try that Canadian guitar repair guy Ted Woodford.
I must say that prior to discovering your channel, I knew very little about higher-end footwear or shoe repair... So all of my knowledge has come from you guys and these videos...
Week after week, your content is superb, a Saturday staple!
Thank you and thank you so much for watching!
Me too. I drove a valet van for 30 years picking up people's dry cleaning and delivering back. Many of those people sent their shoes in as we had a shoe service also but I never knew the nuts and bolts of what went into revamping shoes just that I would drop them off in bad condition and pick them up and they looked like brand new shoes now I know what goes into the revamp. It's fascinating to watch these guys
What a gorgeous pair of shoes! That natural vintage patina is exactly what many of us want our new shoes to look like. That is why you spend the money to resole a pair that looks that great.
It's all about your initial investment into a great shoe that should last. The value is realized with everyday or casual wear leading up to resoles. As a child I had to wear corrective shoes and get them resoled by my neighborhood cobbler. It's never about being able to go buy a new pair rather the history in the wear and its feel.
Not the "Oh My Goodness!" variety of make over, but a classy, nice and laid-back one--still and always satisfying whilst sipping coffee on a Saturday morning.
Great job, and very kind gesture by that anonymous donator. Happy weekend, all! See ya! 🤙👞
Thank you for watching! Have a great weekend.
U guys turned me into a complete shoe geek!! Keep up with your incredible craftsmanship!!
Sometimes I just love hugging my stuffed animal, chilling out and watching some shoe restorations. Feels good man.
Got a great resole from my local guy with toe taps for $50 all because I watched your channel. Thanks guys!
Just found your channel and love it! I'm always interested in a true craftsman at work. I have a pair of Florsheim shoes that I bought 53 years ago @ $50. I have had them resoled at least 3 times and they are still the most comfortable shoes I own.
Got my first pair of Allen Edmonds today. Got them used, great condition, just had been resoled, even came with shoe trees, they just need a little conditioning. I never would have thought about looking for used ones if it weren't for your channel! I know where I am going to send them when it's time for a resole.
The ✨forbidden granola✨ is always satisfying to watch.
Nice job as always.
Here is a tip when you go to a cobbler to have your soles resoled ask for a full sole replacement. Some cobblers do half soles when you don't ask them.
Yes…VERY true!! Be explicit with your cobbler on exactly what you want.
I went to my local cobbler after watching these videos. He only did a half sole exactly like you said since I never specified. At least it was done well and is a jr half sole.
@@kainenr yeah we always live and learn
Can you tell me why half resoles are bad?
@@christinaperez254 Half soles can be fine if you like that. I like full resoles as you can see everything inside the shoe and repair it if necessary, especially if the shoe is welted. My cobbler does full resoles unless he is asked to half as he thinks it's the right way to resole a shoe.
I had my first pair of Goodyear welt dress boots resoled/polished after finding this channel. No regrets. they were more comfortable and better looking when I got them back. I'm hard on shoes and used to burn through so many cheap one's that is not even funny. I am happy to not go back to that.
The just throw them out argument only works when the shoes are
I found some vintage cap toes from Paris a couple of years ago at a thrift store. They were in decent shape, but definitely needed new soles. Straightforward resole for about $60. I'll be wearing them for years! My local cobbler was "the kid" 50 years ago when I first visited his shop. Now he's training his niece to take over so he can retire.
Nice work. Hope you're training up the next generation in your shop too. We need people with skills!
God bless whoever just donated these to whatever good cause.
Nice pair of shoes
Some needy guy will be really glad to get them 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗🤗
Please keep telling the viewers about your website and products as we want to support your channel. It took me months to realise that it was your website.
Love the simplicity of this repair. Simple resole simple condition and polish of the uppers. Much Appreciated! 🇨🇦
Thank you!
Beautiful. I am so glad you swapped out the vibrant sole for a traditional leather sole. Much nicer.
I’ve had a pair of dress shoes for 5-6 yrs…the uppers were still in really good condition as I always use shoe trees…once the soles became worn out I felt really bad about getting rid of them, by happenstance I found your channel and thought, I can’t believe I didn’t realize you could resole a shoe and give it a second life…found a local shoe repairman who did an awesome job, thank you for your content! Blessings!
Awesome!
I love how much time and effort you put into every single pair of shoes. So much love is put into the shoes and these videos always make me smile. Love the videos
I love watching these videos. Good shoes ain't cheap. You guys do a great job I love all the little extras you do, the shoes always look great afterwards. Thanks to your videos I now condition all my leather shoes and they look better than ever. Carry on the good work.
Binge watching after discovering your channel. My great grandfather was a cobbler and I ended up with some of his hand tools. Your videos let me experience a little of his day. Thank you for keeping the craft alive.
Secret agent Heath is on another mission lol 😆
He's currently propelling down a building to save puppies.. let's all wish him luck 🤞
😂
@@TrentonHeath I just love adding a storyline to Heath's absence lol 😆
So I often comment on your channel.. that Heath is a secret agent lol 🤣
Plus.. he reminds me of the lead character on Justified
🤭 lol
I’d like to see Heath again soon, so I certainly hope he’s repelling down the building and not propelling.
@@jackmandu good point ☝️ lol 😆
Great content, as always. I particularly liked the emphasis here on communicating the basic knowledge: Good shoes are often more economical in the long run than cheap shoes that can't be refurbished.
Thank you!
Thank you for your relaxing videos. I usually watch at night before bed, and my kids watch with me from time to time. I am now looking to support my local cobbler because of you. Thanks again!
Thank you for showing more of the finished product at the end of the video! lovely
It's nice to see you guys doing things for the less fortunate in our society. I used to work for a guy who called that kind of thing "paying his civic rent." So kudos to you, and keep up the good work.
Episode suggestion - day in the life. Little repairs you do all the time. Weird problems you run in to. What is an average day?
It's really cool that y'all are doing these different shoes for charities. Kudos guys!!
Excellent work once again! Brilliant!
A beautiful pair of shoes, great job!
I don’t know much about shoe repairs. I don’t care much for fancy shoes or name brands. I watch knowing how you repair these shoes. I enjoy when people rather restore items they have then buy new ones. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Love the videos! I always appreciate a good craft. Thanks fellas 👌
Another one! Great job on the shoes! Love the color of them as well.
Thank you very much!
Man you guys are really underrated. This channel need more subscribers. I've never thought of spending much on shoes. But the way you guys making these videos alone made me curious about branded and quality shoes. Way to go guys. Keep up the good work...👍👍👍
They look like new! I love that color! 🤩
I don't know what it is but there's just something about watching cobbler videos that is so relaxing and satisfying.
My local cobbler uses JR Soles in Ypsilanti and they do a fantastic job. Appreciate your channel and may drop in on you guys in November
Nice looking shoes, I know nothing about shoes let alone have a pair. I do enjoy watching and learning about things and you can tell when someone is good or bad at their craft. I definitely enjoy watch you turn a pair back into something good and useable. I might just have to go and get a pair of good shoes because of you.
Thank you very much for watching!
Yet again another great video thank you guys so much! You are so skilled and talented!
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much! We really appreciate you watching.
Holy cow, you guys really know how to work the ASMR angle on these videos! I never even knew that was a thing until I started watching you repair boots and shoes. Pretty cool!
Thank you very much!
again ,the brother's out did themselves. hats off great job! big fan of your work!
I want to see u guys work on some sneakers, with this level of craftsmanship, it’ll be fun to watch for sure.
I really need to find a place to re welt my shoes in the future. I have a nice pair of vintage shoes, made here in canada. They have, i think, a cemented sole. But the upper is a rare and difficult to find colour in high quality calfskin. They dont have a GYW so they may in fact be hidden blake stitch. I havent had to resole them since picking them up this past winter, they were almost never worn but were in an estate sale, stores away. The seller had conditioned them, and i spent a couple weeks adding a small amount of renovateur to help the old leather rehydrate. It had no cracks, next to no creasing, they were cared for well with very few wears but had gotten a little dry.
Successfully uncracked and without awkward overstretching after all the creams, but that welt, one day, it will need to be replaced. Have yet to find a local cobbler who would do it. The one who would have, is very old, in his late 80s and says he just doesn't have it in him to do it anymore 😂
Beautiful work.
Amazing work as always!!
Well, you sure made the cork fans happy 😊
😎
Great video. Listening to your explanation about resoling shoes I can see why people keep the old shoes and resole them. Here in Canada a pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes start at $560 CDN, US prices start at $400 US. I can see why a person would rather spend $250 to get an excellent resole on shoes that are broken in to the owners feet (assuming the uppers are in great shape) than over $400 for a new pair that need to be broken in. Keep up the interesting videos.
Thank you very much!
Oh man, hit me with that sweet cork footage, that's the stuff! Come for the charity, stay for the cork!
Shoe cobblers are getting to be like hens teeth. Also, some of the folks acting like cobblers think that gluing stuff together is proper shoe repair. The last guy I used, he retired. The poor guy was 75. He said he had had enough. Kids do not want to learn either. He said he went to high schools telling the administrators and counselors to send him a student and he would teach them and when he retired he would help get them going. I have noticed a resurgence in welted boots and shoes. Eventually, that might force the trade to revive. I want to hope so. I use a saddle maker now. He is getting more boots and shoes and getting better. He does fine on cowboy boots, but fine shoes? Not so much. Thanks for the video. I always enjoy the work you fellows do. Also, I like the idea of trying to help someone get a decent pair of shoes. That is very nice.
Solid elegantly gorgeous shoes. Thanks
I love having my shoes re-soled rather than buying new. I will buy old Birkenstocks cheap (my feet love them) and have them re-soled. I have one pair I bought for $12, had them re-soled and now have basically brand new Berkies. When I had horses and wore boots often, I had my boots resoled until they couldn't be re-soled any longer.
A nice, basic, resole. Great job!
Great video, thank you. Hope they went to a good cause 🙂👍
I've also learned a lot watching your videos, so thank you for that! Now to find someone who does this with handbags.
Great craftsmanship as usual, your work is a piece of art even, I'd say! This dark cherry color looks beautiful!
You might want to give those toplifts a light angled touch on your belt sander, to smoother the bottom edge for more aesthetic look.
Awesome repair/upgrade!
Not sure why this is so satisfying to watch.
Love your videos as always!
Great video. I think this also shows why you should get a resole done before the sole is worn through and other parts of the shoe end up damaged. Then you get this rather than needing far more expensive repairs that might not even be worth doing.
I imagine that kind of straight repair is what a lot of people will want when they drop their shoes to a cobbler (rather than your usual "Bring these shoes back from the dead" thing 🙂)...Still looks good though. Still very satisfying to watch.
Allen Edmonds... I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love their shoes. I love that I can find a quality pair of shoes in a 15D. I love that I can get them for a reasonable price. I hate that SOMETIMES, their sales are so good, that I just can't pass up the deal offered. For example, I pair of Hamilton dress boots with Dainites for $230.00 is awesome. And... two pairs of cedar shoe trees for $50 as well! Yes, they're on the way.
Nice repair on these fine ol' kicks. Someone's going to end up with a good pair of shoes.
You spend $400 on a pair of Red Wings ... you wear out the sole in about 1 year. The uppers are in great condition... I will happily pay $100 for a quality resole rather than spending $400 and trashing perfectly fine leather (that is already broke-in and custom shaped by my foot).
Totally agree, that’s the reason to buy quality shoes rather than cheap ones. But how could you possibly wear out the sole in one year? Did you wear them everyday and always walk on rough surfaces? My boots generally won’t need resole at least after four or five years. But I usually have 3 pairs to interchange.
You should always have different shoes to change into as it is unhealthy to always be wearing the same shoes!
At least that's what I have always been told, and my mum sold shoes, too!
I wear the 2414. Fantastic shoe, I can’t believe how well the bonded supersole 2.0 hold up.
I blew through my redwing soles in less than a year. I walk anywhere from 10 to 15 miles in a shift 3 to 4 days a week. All concrete.
@@siquanwu3131 maybe wears them for work like myself they last a good year
Amazing work yet again gentlemen!
Thank you very much!
I think they should be auctioned off and money donated… honestly it will be worth a lot more that way and let’s be honest lady’s and gentleman if they are donated to an organization either someone will get them who won’t take care of them OR, god forbid, someone running the organization will take them instead…. I just believer auctioning all the shoes off and donating that money to different organizations would be better for everyone. Thank you guys so much for helping out the people who need a little help, god bless
For a simple job they look way better than new.
Crazy how much your channel has grown and the quality of the content. I remember subscribing when you had less than 1000 total. Congrats on the success which allows you to do nice things like donations.
Thank you very much for hanging with us, Trey!
Hi from Wales. Love your videos. I have really learned a lot.
Thank you very much for watching!
Hats of to you guys!! You do beautiful work, I don't know who's better you or Beto's but he charges an arm and a leg.. 😁 Keep it up👍 I think I'll send you a pair soon..
Thank you very much!
Your are fantastic guys
I think its worth it. Leather breaks in n feels really comfortable after you wear it. N if it's got sentimental value, it's def worth it. Great job brother
Thank you!
Great job! You just proved that less can be best.
Thank you!
Very nice. This corking scene was particularly satisfying. Whoever gets these should play the magic mix scene before every wear.
This was their best video to date, I even watched the promotion.
Thank you very much for watching!
I love watching you Guys fixing, upgrading shoes. My Wife doesn't get why I like it. She thinks a bloke that fixes coffee machines for a living loves F1 motor racing and DJ's some weekends has strange tastes.... (That's probably why she loves me) Anyway this vid was another great one... Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for taking the time to watch!
You really made those shoes look classy. That original sole sure brought the looks of those shoes down a notch or two. Why in the world didn't they come with leather soles? That's not really my style of shoe, but I want them. Haha!
I am in the market for a new pair of cowboy boots and I was searching review videos. Your Tecovas Boots resole video came up and so it began. It is so relaxing watching people make their craft look so easy. You have inspired me to dig out my old J. Chosholm deer skin cowboy boots that I have been meaning to have resoled for 20 years!
Thank you!
Great video. Enjoyed content and production. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Great resole on those AEs Trent . Right down to the detail of the notch on the heels . I thought maybe you were even going to use your AE stamp on the soles. Will head to IG next. Have a great weekend. : )
Thank you!
Nice job!
Had you guys do a full rebuild on my Dad's Tony Llamas, worth EVERY penny.
Really leaning into the asmr on this one, with the vacuuming and all. It worked!
I had new top lifts put on a pair of AE about a year ago and it only cost $20. I had a split seam repaired on a pair of AE cordovan shoes and it was $30. So repairs are definitely worth it on decent shoes.
I’d love to have a pair of dress shoes one day. Currently my priority is what I wear daily, so I bucked up to buy a pair of Nick’s boots. Now it’s on to getting a pair of dress/casual shoes.
👍
Another awesome job! Keep it up fellas. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Great job as always
Thank you!
Do a video on where stitching goes, what goes onto what and holds whatever in place, like a construction, but detail like the heel tacks etc. where they go and through which parts and how everything is kept in place and holding whatever together ?
Not sure if you guys already did this, but it'd be cool if you guys did a series of shoes from thrift stores for resoles/etc.. Part of the series could be a tutorial of what you should look for in shoes at thrift stores. Maybe even resoling some of the bad ones to take them apart and explain why you may prefer some shoes over others.
Really like that shirt. That color is 🔥
watching from the Philippines! keep up the great work!
Thank you for watching!
Cork on=soothing. Cork off=anxiety provoking. :)
Tremendous shoe transformation.
Speaking of price, I have a pair of boots that I think can be resoled as it looks like a mix of blake stitch and good year welt. I think I have the terms right. Blake stitch being the stitch on the inside that goes through the footbed and midsole and this pair looks like it also has a good year welt that goes through the midsole and the welt. They are Mexican made but can not find anything about them online but can find them for sale on ebay. They are good boots so would love to get them resoled.
Great idea donating the shoes!
Another great Saturday video
Thank you so much!
-They don’t look great, they look pristine 🌞.
- And yes you can throw them away, but it depends on the individual and how much he or she loves and what the pair means to them.
- it’s all about if the shoe is an investment and worth keeping, personally if you loved the shoe initially and you regularly use Saphir products and sole protectors for your leather soles or just a strong Dainite sole you should not go thru them frequently or at all, again it all depends on the wear frequency too.
-Thanks Again Heath-
Thank you very much!
Conserving and keeping what we have rather than throw it out is a lifestyle. I have a pair of Birkenstocks that are 35 years old. I am about to have them refurbished for $100. New ones would cost about $135. But these shoes went through my life with me. They carried me all over the world. I would never throw them out.
