- This week’s TRIGGERED is about the amazing rebirth of the Auto Mag, a legendary pistol made famous in Clint Eastwood’s SUDDEN IMPACT in 1983, fourth of the “Dirty Harry” movies. Patrick Henry III and his intrepid team of engineers took the challenge to bring the iconic gun into the 21st Century. Here’s the report.
Michael - great presentation of the story. I've had many conversations with Patrick, and I never tire of hearing the inside information about their engineering, challenges, and solutions. I was both honored and thrilled to get an early copy of this re-born icon for review. I like how you pointed out that this gun was never really completely vetted - and was a work in progress right up until production stopped.
The 44 Auto Mag the best gun to buy used in Sudden Impact Great powered gun.
14 shots & no hiccups outstanding performance
I got mine - and it's a beaut! The wait was just over 37 months from payment in full to receiving the pistol, but it was so worth it. Guys ordering one now won't have to wait anything like I did, now that they're rolling off the line. Most accurate handgun - bar none - that I have ever shot, and I can reliably shoot 7 rounds from the mag.
Is it true it jams on times? I saw a video where it jams a lot.
@@dragondude9637 - the originals are pretty finicky; the new ones are reliable (over 50 improvements to the design). I did have to send one early-production magazine back for replacement (a little squished in the middle of the mag body - it happens when a company is starting to make their own mags and work out the bugs) and tested the new mag - 100% reliable.
The first 5 new-production guns were shipped yesterday!
Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes of the project. Very interesting to hear what it takes to get it to market.
Terrific video! Thank you!
Very Cool. Great content as always. Thanks Michael!
Such a sexy pistol. At one time I had 2 Pasadena guns, they were always good shooters. Oh by the way, you can't fit under my couch or bed, but if you could you would have a HUSKY DOG FUR COAT. Thanks for the video.
Awesome
Love it. I cracked the frame on my old one😕
Been waiting 21 months, still waiting!!! Caveat Emptor!! Patrick Henry should be Jesse James!!
After taking a tour of the plant in Loris SC in July all can say is SMH at how they do things. No ammo is available
Like some other toys, it will have to wait for my retirement in a few years.
I really likes your videos my friend BUT the automag 4 always did have problems,
Funny the new owner said he fixed the issue and also better $ price
70s AMT AUTOMAG $170 to $300
2020 Automag $4k
With 4k you can gets 429DE, COONAN 357mag
Plus a 460 ROWLAND barrel for your 1911 platform
And all this works 100% with no problems.
The Desert Eagle is a boat anchor with a safety in the wrong place. The Coonan is nice but I could get 700 foot pounds with Underwood .357 SIG out of a 6" 1911 barrel. Also 9+1 vs 7+1. Out of all those, I like the .460 Rowland the best. Especially with Underwood and Buffalo Bore ammunition. But even that won't get you the muzzle energy of the Automag. At the same time a .460 conversion doesn't cost 4k either so I get that. But people will still buy this. If I had the means, I would. And maybe I still will. I'd definitely take a 6.5" AMP over a DE or Coonan.
@@hivelsword I love my Desert Eagles both 50ae and 44 mag fits my hand perfectly, no problems with where the safety is or slide release both can be operated by my thumb
@@davidanderson3999 You must have bear sized mitts.
Having to push up on the safety to disengage isn't a natural motion. I guarantee you that anyone carrying a cocked and locked gun with a frame mounted thumb safety (1911, CZ, Tanfoglio, Browning HP etc.) will be getting a shot off before someone with a DE.
469 Rowland
I am not sure why you mention the Automag IV ( in-45 win mag / 10mm mag) when this is a update to the Automag model 180 in .44 AMP. The 1911style Automags II, III, IV, and V are made we'll after the model 180.
Or a LAUGO ARMS ALIEN (PERFORMANCE EDITION) used $4,000.00. New $5,400.00 to $6,500.00
even if you miss the poor bastard he would die of a heart attack from the noise alone.
I will own just one ... 44 auto Mag Mmmmmm
Any issues on the (New) AutoMag Barrel lug and bolt lug issues, etc.. Spare Parts availability? PEACE
I have been trying unsuccessfully to reach someone at Automag to purchase a new pistol, but have not had a reply as of yet
Gunbroker, Armslist, or Gunsamerica.
If properly used it’ll remove the fingerprints.
Needs a cutts type compensater and an extender wrist brace ....
Why does nobody mention the company that makes it
i have got to get one of these even just to admire it in the case im afraid to shoot it
They need a hammer forged frame
my friends dad carried a S&W 44 am in the field let me fire a clip that was enough for me i tried to buy it from my friend after his dad pased he took it as a insult
Does it come in 10 mm , does it take Glock mags?
lol
And, if used properly, it can *remove* the fingerprints.
I'm interested n shooting one of the new ones, four grand is a smack. The originals I shot were, recoil wise...bracing...
