That’s weird cause he’s not even a herding dog but the dogs in this vid aren’t either so that’s kinda weird does that mean all dog breeds were herding dogs once? 🤔
i've heard restless dogs will sometimes do this if they're not being active enough haha. they often try with kids or with cats lmao (good luck with either group haha)
Yes! And different breeds of sheep, too. I... I don't think Jacobs would pay much attention to a Chihuahua, for example. (Actually, don't risk that. The Jacobs *might* decide to fight back, and the Chihuahua would lose. Stick with docile sheep versus tiny lap dogs.)
Teckniphobia - I've seen it - it's hilarious! I used to take my cattle dog to a herding instructor and someone brought their chihuahua, but they worked it on the ducks as the sheep were too big and scared it. Funniest thing ever though was the littler of Corgi puppies that someone brought that they put in the duck pen. Best thing to watch ever! Those little guys could run!
Any working breed has a ingrained job they have to do. Herd dogs herd, bird dogs flush and retrieve, hounds hunt. I'm a firm believer that if you get a certain breed cater to it's natural disposition.
Some breeds are in fact bred to just sit on laps. Many small breeds were bred to sit on ancient Chinese emperors laps all day. But I certainly agree that working dogs should be catered to differently than how most people look after them.
Elizabeth Ospina lol oh wow yea she's a taken girl but I'm so pretty and she's doing good lol she's so funny and she's so pretty she's the only one woman girl I'm dying of dying my hair looks like crazy lol oh lord I'm sorry to say I don't know if I'm we living or the way I'm going crazy right or what I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna lie I'm dying lol I'm dying inside but I love my babies lol I'm

Annatar right! I realized this was a sponsored video when I noticed both cars had the exact interior. Then seeing both Subarus toward the end of the video confirmed it.
That cattle dog needs to get out there and run around more than just on her birthday. I'm sorry but overfeeding your dog is not love. It's downright cruel. Cattle dogs (and corgis for that matter) are agile dogs. They are supposed to be able to move. That dog is way too fat and it's unhealthy.
ACD's are pretty food motivated, and sly = yay! Snacks! I don't know how old the ACD, she looks a bit round to me too. Short legs or round? I dunno. I see a lot of round ACD's. I'm careful with my dog's diets, hopefully they won't get round as they age. I also take mine herding frequently, it's addictive to just stand and watch their wheels turn.
Just what I was thinking. :/ The dog's life quality will be decreased, whether it knows or not. It's the owner's job to moderate their diet and give them exercise. And it's pretty simple: DO NOT GET A WORKING DOG IF YOU LIVE IN THE CITY AND CAN'T WORK THEM ALL THE TIME. -o-
I have a cattle dog corgi mix too, and keeping them “skinny” is very hard, we give her a cup and a half of food in the morning and a cup at night (such a little amount because our vet said 3 cups a day was too much for her) and we take her on walks daily but she’s still very chunky, It’s just the corgi in them.
My youngest lab heards our hens when its their "bed time" she rounds them all up and puts them in the cage. Her mama used to do it to but at 8 shes slowing down and not interested.
This is cute and all but please don't get an active, herding-type dog and expect it to do well on simple leash walks/small yards/only dog parks. Lack of physical activity leads to dogs expressing their pent up energy in other ways. Herding/cattle dogs thrive on massive properties, and do best with something to do (such as, you know, herding.) Please research a breed before you decide to get it just because it's cute. Or you can just go adopt a dog that would be a better fit for your family. It's always a sad thing for me to see active herding dogs crammed into small yards and then to hear owners complain about their dog's "poor behavior."
Steven Mason it has to do with the fact that one of those dogs is a cattle dog. I have 2 of them and i live on 4 acres with all kinds of animals for them to heard. they have things to herd and run around and such. you just can't have a cattle dog in a small house or apartment with a small yard and nowhere to run and expect them to behave. that is not how that works.
My purebred Border Collie and herding mixbreed have both lived in a small city apartment and been fine with it. No specific "job" but we're very active (offleash hiking and swimming 3 - 4 times a week) and a lot of obedience and trick training. Occasionally dog gets to come to work with me and we go for coffees or meals in town with friends at lunch time or after work, dog meets lots of people and other dogs and gets rewarded with yummy treats for good behaviour. Not a bad life considering the alternative was growing up / living out old age in a concrete pen in an underfunded shelter. My preference is for herding type dogs because in my experience they make the most obedient and intelligent pets, and (provided you give them an appropriate amount of exercise and mental stimulation) they are so well behaved indoors (just settle down and chill). Plus they are mostly the perfect size for a dog: medium sized and athletic! Obviously they aren't for the average dog owner because most people seem to be very lazy these days (and many are without the time to put in for a smart and active dog), but for someone with the time and the drive they are the best pets! You do not need a farm or a huge property to keep one happy, you just need to take the time to do fun and interesting activities together :)
I recently learned that scientists no longer classify dogs as a separate species from wolves, but simply as a sub-species of wolf. Man's best friend is a collection of specially bred wolves of various shapes and sizes.
Oh my gosh an ACD! I love those dogs and I have one of my own. They have endless amounts of energy so how did they manage to make an Aussie Cattle Dog so chunky 😂 Also the lady running the herding place is awesome! I just saw a documentary of her border collies last week.
selneversleeps when a dog chases something like that it typically means they are just herding them. Especially with the dog breeds given they were bred to be herders.
Looks like they are doing as well as they can as newbies! I think the sheep are used to being herded so it's not necessarily 'fun' for them but it's fairly normal. They are pretty exuberant initially but they all settle into just moving the sheep towards the people, it seems. No biting, no trolling, just moving them. On the other hand, my husky would probably chase/terrorize the sheep with no real motive, it'd look a hell of a lot more chaotic than this hahahaha! (I'd never let this happen because I know better, of course, but she'd have a hell of a time at the sheep's expense)
Herding sheep can be so funny :D A friend and I once had to get a few sheep from the field into the barn and we used my dog (german shepard mix) and my pony to do it. We all had a lot of fun that day. Also, nice content :)
Anyone who has been to a dog park when there were herding dogs like a Aussie Shepherd or Border Collie, will see that’s just the nature of those breeds. I use to frequent a dog park and a border collie would always try to herd my dog when he was fetching. Doing figure 8’s trying to control my dog. One day, he nipped my dog’s leg and my dog turned around a chased. After that, he moved onto another dog.
Heh, this is great. I own sheep. My herd dogs started in a set up like this, long before we had sheep. We even have hair sheep, just like the runner of this ranch does. My girls have progressed from wild circling (which is what these dogs are doing) to penning the sheep and the goats, bringing them across pastures, and cutting ones I need cut for medicine, hoof trims, or whatever reason. Those two are good pups. I hope that little cattle dog loses some weight though. It's hard on their hearts to keep them so pudgy.
Sheep have long tails that go down, goats have short tails that go up. Quick and easy way to tell them apart. Besides that, their facial features are pretty different and goats have beards.
My puppy is a Aussie, Boxer, Lab mix and we have free range goats. Every morning for feeding time I just let Rosey out and she goes and finds all the goats and herds them in for breakfast.
Sheep are more manageable. Their less likely to kick and are much smaller than a horse and are more likely to run away from the dog. Horses tend to lash out when being chased.
My old border collie/australian shepherd cross would have LOVED this. My current chow chow/golden retriever... I'm not sure she'd get up... maybe just bark a little...
+Fallen Dusk It's ShepHERD they were originally used as Herding breed before Military and Police took note of their guarding ability and then the dogs were bred for protection. They still have the genetic drive to heard though depending on the line and dog itself
Considering how much activity heelers need it's pretty sad that those owners let theirs get so overweight. She's clearly in the wrong type of home and she's not getting nearly enough exercise.
Yeah, I did this with my cattledog and retriever. At the end, I realized the poor sheep are terrified by hyper untrained dogs. Doesn't seem fair to sheep, they are prey. Never did it again - unkind fun.

My Chihuahua herds my chickens and goats.

Dogs are meant to have jobs, that's why those dogs looked so happy to work.
The cattle dog especially. He was way over weight.
he had corgi in him, so he could naturaly be like that, or he could be overweight. Heelers are everywhere here in 'straya
Ann Regan it's true. they're pack animals, everyone in the pack is meant to have a job.

Buzzfeed needs this series!
I need this in my life
I hope one day I reach a point in my life were I can bring my dog to a sheep herding place because the city life is too boring for her.
I take my pups for herding lessons a couple times a month. And. IT. IS. AWESOME.
Don’t unless your dog has sheep herding instincts

Yes! Was looking for this comment. So many people do not realize that herding breeds need a JOB to stay happy and healthy.
tf does this have to do with buzzfeed's video? referring to the transition from "this is cute and all". seems like it could go without the transition
