leave it to a genius like Terence Blanchard to take a classic tune like Footprints and put his own indelible stamp on it . Great rendition and performance. I regret that the pandemic took away the opportunity for me to see him live at Disney Hall in LA but I've since become a big fan and hope to see him there in the future !!!
the crazy thing i found out is that this was 1 month after i was born , yet it feels so fresh
This is fantastic. Well done to all. Piano comping on point, loved it.
fantastic Terence Blanchard. Thanks for sharing.
"Jazz means 'I Dare You' --------Wayne Shorter. Terrence got th' "Memo!!!" Schweeeeet Groove 👣👍
Definitely the go-to version of Footprints for our local jam community.
Amazing, love the recorded version from Bounce.
Just enjoy the music. Sounds great!!!
True that my friend
Aaron Parks is only 19 in this vid. awesome.
That’s amazing. He’s is a savant.
Blanchard and Parks stand out for me.
Aaron gettin funky on the keys.
Excellent.
Very nice
Digging the sax solo!
The saxman cautiously and carefully cites his introductory thesis statement, and then moves on with his 'Tranesque discourse which satisfies any appeal for an encore.
Terrence is somewhat reserved; perhaps enveloped by performance lassitude and rhythmic ennui.
The 80s met him a team mate of Donald Harrison on alto and soprano saxophones.
Oh, how their performances recall those of Eric Dolphy!
'Crescent City' is my favorite by the duet.
What's the name of the saxist? I adore him - his approach.
Thanks for sharing!
Funky on the keys!!! Yaaas
Terence reminds me of Jordan Peele
Sandy Red lol

@@adilmcdonald4914 Thanks. I was wondering about the bit after the turnaround; borrowed from Galt perhaps, so maybe
AbmM7?
Cm7 (AbMaj7) .... Fm7 (G7b13) / go back to Cm7 ... F#m7(11) Am7(11) Fmin7(11) Dmin7(11).... Abm(6) Emin7.
Absolutely Beautiful.....all of them ain't nothing but bad ass ally cats, and they can't fool us cause the truth is in the sound.
Man the bass player is killing the vibe hard. He's too much in his head space and not feeling the beat!
+1jazztypeguy YR RIHT BOOBBOOOB AFTER THE TRAIN HAD PASSED
+1jazztypeguy Actually, the bass player was filling in on the same very gig. He was reading all the parts, Terence says that at the end of the concert.
There's a difference in playing the parts and feeling the parts. You can look at Aaron parks on several occasions and see him giving direction to the bass player on where the beat is. Terence even notices several times throughout the performance.
He really was sight reading though...
@@incwithaperiod by the 2nd verse you should have that pattern down thoe xD
The bass? what is wrong
It's almost as if Aaron Park's voicing at 10:30 makes everything go out of tune for a sec
listened 10 times. can't make sense of it. sounds to me like he hit the wrong chord .
but he use it on the vamp. kind of an ugly chord.
I think the bass note is making it sound even weirder.
i like the sound
Blanchard and Winston actually wrongly come in to play the head when the rhythm section is at the chorus (or 16 bars in) so Parks' chord is correct, and the rhythm section then follows the trumpet/sax.
@@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out The pianist is following the form and hits the first chord of the turnaround, but trumpet/sax come in at the top instead, and the pianist makes the correct move of following them at that point.
2003 or 2013 ???
2003

Sax player going in he jammin Terence a little tense,I wonder how he will sound without that trumpet extension.
the saxist is good. chord shoulda been a minor less.
Which one?
Sorry. I've stopped drinking since then.
Oh..lol
wtf, the sax player ripped off an amazing solo and the crowd was "that's nice " ?
Though I love Blanchard's playing usually, this song is just NOT meant to be a funk tune.. at all. Kinda kills it in a bad way.
OK km look )o loll lollipop OK lo o lollipop lo OK loll old
I think miles and wayne would dig this
Just a matter of perception...it is always subjective. Whatever floats your Fushigi...or not.
This performance is not cool at all. They should listen to Miles Davis's performance and should learn how this tune should be played. Footprints is the mysterious tune, but this band played it as a "Happy Funk"
Terrible mindset. Wayne and miles would love this version. I would recommend checking out the Ezra collective version.
Wayne and Miles are smiling for your response....😊😊
