This song is actually a cover of the original 1968 song by The Easybeats. Arguably Australia’s first rock band, certainly the first with international recognition.

According to a couple of things I have just looked at: Steve Marriot did the vocals on the Easybeats version (?) and (although this is an Easybeats song) it was released previously by Amen Corner in the UK. Nothing surprises me but interested to know if any of this is correct.

Hello Sue. They sure do make a great duo. If you haven’t seen Jimmy do Stand By Me, it will blow your top off. He fumbles through some of the lyrics which just make it cute and funny so you see another side to him, but his vocals are amazing in this cover. It’s from 1994 Rockpalast Germany- I think the only one you’ll find is my remastered one on my channel. Yep Sue, on the money, definitely is a throw back to earlier rock and roll. Originally by the Oz band The Easybeats which were a fantastic band of the 60's setting the standard for Aussie bands way back. Harry Vanda and George Young went on to become prolific song writers. You may know their 1st big hit "Friday on my mind" They also wrote many songs for AC/DC where George's brothers Malcolm and Angus Young were founding members.

@@playitagainsue Hi Sue, thanks for the feedback and your willing to give The Easybeats a bit of a listen. To make it easy for you I have included 4 audio links of theirs (don't worry way back then songs would only go for 2.5 to 3.5 minutes in length so it won't take you long to listen to them ( I didn't include video links because back in the 60's most videos were black and white and the video and audio quality was not great. Many artists were even still recording in mono instead of stereo. The 1st is the original Easybeats "Good Times" which you recently reacted to the cover by Inxs and J.B. Not quite as punchy as that version but bare in mind we were listening to these bangers about 20 years before J.B. got a hold of it and technology had certainly moved on dramatically. The 2nd is their 1st hit in Oz "Sorry" with the 3rd being their 1st overseas success with "Friday on my Mind" Even though you are in the US I can't believe you haven't heard this 60's classic as it has been covered by many big names such as Bowie (on his Pin-ups album which is a compilation of covers of his favourite songs) Bruce Springsteen, Gary Moore and Peter Frampton just to name a few. The 4th, "St Louis" was specifically written to try to break into the American market but only had moderate success in the US.
Finally I have included an Oz song by Stevie Wright (RIP) who was the lead singer of the Easybeats which goes into a very small and rare category of Australian legendary classics such as Khe Sanh (Cold Chisel) and "You're the Voice" (J.F.) "Evie Parts 1, 2 & 3" would rank as one of the best all time Australian songs ever written. 3 distinct parts telling one story. I have included an audio link which includes the lyrics (although a couple of them aren't quite right possibly computer generated/lost in translation) Anyhow have a box of tissues handy just in case the story resonates to you like it has to us here in Oz.
      Cheers
