    You got me back in chill mode! Thank you! Hey RUclips.....pay this man! My recliner just stopped working but it was in the down position. I had zero action at the switch......a green light on the power supply....and everything was plugged in. I just assume that it is the switch and might just order one to give it a shot. But the real help way you mentioning how to release the frame from the mechanism. Once I removed the bolts my chair is on the move again. It now reclines even further and I really dont need the power option. A huge thank you to you sir!!

    Last night I was unable to put the recliner in my sofa back down. I know it is going to take at least a couple of weeks (if not longer) to get a repair technician here. I also doubt they will have the replacement switch in stock, so we are probably looking at a couple of months before the chair is functional. Your video calmly walked us through detaching the rails so we could at least collapse the recliner. I also used your link to purchase a switch and hope to be able to use it until the new switch comes in. We really appreciate your video AND your expertise! Thanks for doing what you do.

    Thanks for your elimination approach to identify possible defective components. My recliner simply stopped working when partly reclined. Effectively the rise button did not work, whereas the recline button was OK. The motor would continue to run to extend, but the rise button did not reverse the motor to retract and that indicated to me that the motor was actually OK, until it fully extended. Then it stopped completely. I checked out all of YT’s recliner troubleshoot and ‘fix it’ vlogs and non were able to identify my problem. What they all failed to mention was that within the actuator arm, attached to the motor housing, there are two micro switches that enable the DC current to reverse its polarity and run the motor backwards. By disassembling the actuator arm from the drive motor I was able to reveal the switches, positioned one at each end of the ‘throw’. I was able to see that the start micro switch had jammed itself in the ‘open position’ rendering the retract button inactive. When the linear actuator had reached its full extent the other micro switch is deactivated to stop over running the motor. So to fix this problem it’s first necessary to ensure that both micro switches are cleaned and free to operate properly Ie. switch on and off and then manually rewind the actuator screw back to the start position. In my case I wiped any loose debris from the micro switch buttons and cleaned the traveller, attached to the screw and could hear them click open and close and carefully re-assembled the actuator arm to the motor housing. I suggest photographing the mechanism during the strip process to ensure correct re-assembly, as it’s critical to align the traveller and wiring spacer inside the actuator housing. Also note position and length of the screws holding motor housing together. My problem was solved simply by freeing up a very small micro switch that had jammed open and saved me waiting for £120+ replacement motor and carriage costs from China. Hope my investigation helps someone else with the same symptoms. I’m now trying to source replacement micro switches from Changzhou Kaidi Electrical Company in China. They are relatively inexpensive components used to control the polarity of DC current of the motor making it extend and retract the reclining mechanism, whereas the full motor and linear actuator can be an expensive and time lengthy replacement, dependant upon on type and make.

I unbolted the mechanism from the actuator and the actuator functioned in both directions. Bolted it together again and went up to almost the limit and it stopped. Again, would not go up or down until I wiggled the footpad quite hard. Went to just before the down limit and stopped. That is usually a sign that the mechanism is bent and catching on itself somewhere. The best way to identify that is have someone sit in the chair and recline it over and over and over again while a secondary person is shining a flashlight down at the mechanism and trying to pinpoint where it is catching. You can also flip the recliner on its front end and just inspect the mechanism looking for any abnormalities such as crookedness

An angle iron usually goes around the drive tube for stability. The motor brackets and motor. One of these days I’ll do a video on one to show how extensive the process is.

      The power transformers are usually interchangeable, but for the price I would recommend getting one decorated for each, making sure it supplies enough power to handle the motor for that specific unit. The motors typically say on them how much power they draw. From there, just look at the specs on the transformers and make sure it meets those requirements.

    Great information but so far I can’t find anything that saves my problem. Hopefully you have a suggestion. When the recliner is reclined, the c
    Back creeps back up to the straight up position . The footrest stays up. It’s just the back that won’t stay reclined. Any suggestions for repair would be great. Thank you

      In would check the mechanism and see if there are springs that control that function. If you could replace those springs with ones with less tension that could potentially help. Just a thought

      It sounds like an issue with the mechanism itself or possibly even the lift arm motor. I’d have to diagnose it in person to help with that one. The best thing you can do is have someone operate it while another inspects the mechanism with a Flashlight to see what’s going on.

    I have another question. What tells the actuator to stop at either end of travel (up and/or down). What prevents the actuator from traveling too far forward or back and breaking the mechanism?

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  11 месяцев назад

      If you look at the actuator the moving part is a white plastic piece. It can I’m go so far on the actuator track.

    Hello. My power recliner makes a loud "clunking" noise halfway up, when the back starts to recline. If I lean forward, or recline it without sitting in it, no noise occurs. I've looked at the mechanism underneath and removed the back, but can't seem to find anything obvious. This recliner is probably 10 years old or more, so I presume something is worn out, but I can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your great videos.

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  Год назад

      Yeah, it sounds like with the added pressure the mechanism may be hitting itself somewhere in the motion. I’d try to have someone sit in it while another person inspects with a flashlight underneath.

    I'm wondering if these are grounded properly as we've seen an increase of hardly any shocks from our old non-powered furniture to multiple shocks once receiving our new powered units.

    I have a problem the power transformer box is plugged into the wall and the green light is on when I plug it to the chair the green light gos dim and flashes plz help

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  3 года назад

      In my experience, it is usually one of two things. Typically, it is either the hand control or the transformer. the last culprit could possibly be the motor itself, but is much less typical. I would start with the first two mentioned items in that order. If you have an extra recliner in the home you could use the parts from it to troubleshoot so you don’t have to order

    How to replace the wire running from the motor to the transformer? Do I have to replace the entire motor? The wire from motor and the connector got cut .. can we. Buy that separately?

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  3 года назад

      It depends on whether or not the wire runs directly into the motor and is hardwired into it. If so, then yes, you would have to replace the entire motor. You’ll have to trace your wiring find out

    Mine is an Abbyson power recliner from Costco. Before I order a power switch to test it, my buttons for the headrest headrest functions fine. The one to raise the chair or lower the chair do not function. The fact that one of the switches works and one doesn't, possibly is the motor? Will I be wasting my time getting a power switch to test it?

    • @the323vlog4

      I have seen it go both ways before. due to the drastic price difference, I always advise starting off with the switch. If you use a source like Amazon, returns are always an option if it doesn’t resolve the issue

    What about the type of switch that looks more like a lever (going up or down to power the recliner) that would likely be located as one of the inner pieces of a sectional

      @shelleyblack7942 you have a short somewhere. I’d recommend unplugging one thing at a time and see if the light on the box goes to a solid green. Start with the switch

    I have a power recliner that stopped working The video was helpful but, I have a problem that I can't find and answer to. The cord from the wall to the power box works fine and the green light is on. However, everytime I attach it to the chair, the green light goes out on the power box and no power to the chair. I've tried new cables and power box with the same result. If I find a kink in the power linesto the motor can I cut them and splice them? Thanks

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  3 года назад

      It sounds like you have a short somewhere tripping the transformer box. I would start with diagnosing the cheapest parts and that’s the switch and the transformer. You could purchase a New or if you have another unit in the house you could pull from it to diagnose since you know it’s working.

    Do you know if there is a way to shut off just the "lift" part of a lift chair operation so that it just power recliner. The lift chair is not safe for the confused adult to lift all the way up and may get dumped out on the floor.

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  2 года назад

      Not that I’m aware of. I would look underneath and see if there’s a separate motor or wire, but if I remember correctly it’s all one.
