The inner cargo bay is shielded, yes. Also, a few updates ago the MAX had working panels, I also like the turret updates, however since they updated it the physical buttons are all broken now and the beds are also broken, you can't get out of the beds and sometimes they suck you in randomly. Edit: Another thing to keep in mind, this is the largest small class freighter, you won't pay as much to transport through systems
I've been flying the Freelancer since the Kickstarter. I upgraded mine to a MIS when the variants came out and love it! That said, if you've only got one ship, the MAX is probably a bit better. It handles about the same and what you loose in missile capacity, you gain in being able to take an Ursa instead of an STV. And now that we have the Nursa, that's a _huge_ benefit.
I had the dilemma between the MAX and Taurus, but in the end I coughed up the extra $50 for the Taurus for much more SCU, tankier and much bigger guns... not to mention the tractor beam making it easier to load things without even exiting your ship. I can see the MAX as a great budget option though.
Have to compare the front exit and ramp size. But i think i will prefer the Zeus over the Max for its design, the tractor and probably better turret. But looking at the stats, the taurus is still better and for 200 the cheapest with a s3 shield....but i really dislike the interior its so ugly.
I mean the max is only 4.4m and taurus 8m so why not just save the cash and earn them in game? not very hard to make that much in about 2 days play time really
@ryanmurphy375 8 millions in two days? I guess you have some big ship purchased. Just asking, as someone with just a starter titan I don't see any way to make that much money so quickly
I flew the Max with ROC combo while mining started. I love it and there is a time and place for it. It holds a lot of people with 4 beds. You then have more than 4 seats with the turret and cabin which allows a 5tth friend to go and explore. Easy loading and unloading. Not meant for fighting but some people enjoy Star Citizen without the want or need to PvP.
I'd much rather prefer to see two beds removed on either side of the ship, two of the back seats in the cabin removed as well, and the midship lounge area extended and upgraded OR..... keep it as is and increase the cargo space with the removal of said bunks and chairs. Also, the midship storage area would do well to have the port and starboard bulkheads exchanged for ramps that come down to make moving cargo a peach.
Looove the Freelancers. A bit under gunned and in need of an update but really nice asthetics. I intend to use the max to transport my Nursa for ground missions.
Honestly, considering the modest price increase from 3.22 to 3.23, when this ship gets fixed it is probably the best value for UEC in its class, considering it is quite versatile as well. One of my favourite ships in the game (as long as I have the black paint on). Also great info to know that the hanging parts at the turret are now removed, amazing to be able to get an Ursa into the ship as well! Love your reviews, binging them atm!
I see this as a... Crew cab Ford F650 type vehicle? a biig work truck that can carry the crew :) Love this ship!. LOVE THE ORANGE! but descent firepower for defence, though she flies a bit tail heavy, and there is some mass when turning. Rear turret is one of my issues (Mostly that it needs to be remote, not manned considering when cargo is ful you can't enter/exit". Love the side ladder, and the little "airlock" with extra cargo. Didn't think the Ursa Medevac convo, I think the closer competitor is the Zeus CL, and frankly, for the price, Considering Taurus is $200, Zeus is F175, and the RAFT is 125 BUT only has 96 SCU... Frankly, RAFT is other ship I'd consider (Orange?) because the great interior, but its buggy, and the Ramp is KING!. Big Freelancer FAN here. and, BABY GOT BACK! :)
Cool overview and great video work. I'm still waiting for the Freelancer DUR to get some love and it's purpose being delivered in the game. I want to head out and discover (since 2015 ...)
the sneak peak picture is 100% the freelancer interior, specifically the Freelancer MIS missile section. And no, CIG need to keep the old ships up to date graphically and in terms of utility, otherwise gamepacks become pointless as buying individual gamepack ships and upgrading to whatever ship you are after (and can thus melt without affecting 5 or 6 other ships as well) become the only way to play with ships that look and feel new. ive read multiple posts of 10 year old backers that are "locked in" from melting their pack due to several ships in that pack that they got for cheap with warbond ccus which they dont want to lose but part of their game pack also includes concept ships still not made a decade later (bmm, orion, cruicible) or ships that have been nerfed into being completely useless (redeemer) or havent been touched in years and look really old on the inside (eg avenger titan) personally however tempted i am to get a gamepack ive learnt not to touch them. Ive recently melted my redeemer and it affected none of my other ships as it was a not part of a pack.
I keep saying that the Max's cargo hold is the only one that makes me grin for no particular reason. I did not realize that they fixed up the rear turret so that you can fit in an Ursa so it's a really great value now. Subscribed!
Size one and two boxes fit through the door it's a little tricky getting them in you got to have them turned and aimed just right but they do fit been flying my max since 2016 love it
A classic, I like the extra seats for passengers. I'm glad you talked about the Ursa because you can take that crew with you and give them a place to rest, log off, etc. I'm not clear on the state of bed mechanics long term at this point but for now I operate under the assumption they are still valuable.
Great review and perfect timing for me, honestly! I pledged in 2014 and just came in to play the game 5 days ago and was very disappointed yesterday. It was the first time my girlfriend joined the verse and we decided to go ROC mining for the first time since freelance max can carry 2 ROC. We had no idea what was going on, couldn't find any ore for some reason and wasted probably 2 hours looking for any. Turns our people said the ship has bug with its radar making it unable to detect ore. Plus, if someone is sitting on a co-pilot, there is a weird glitch that doesn't allow you to QT. My gf will probably not try the game again in a short while ;( I was thinking of upgrading the package to something else, but being able to carry Ursa is pretty nice! Not sure about swapping the package now.
I'd honestly try bringing both of you back after 4.0 and server meshing. A lot of issues are likely going to be fix issues associated with bad server performance. There is a possibility that the rocks just weren't spawning due to the server hamsters taking a break
They should make the rear turret remote, so the copilot can fire missiles at pursuing ships (as with the Corsair). That would help balance the thin skin without turning the thing into a military vessel. It also makes sense given the elongated layout.
I could be crazy but I actually think that re-work teaser at 7:08 might be the cargo bay of the Avenger Titan. I would imagine the Titan and Cutlass Black are at the top of the list for 'OG' ships that are overdue for an interior update/gold pass update. It just has that Titan look/size scale when u compare the bay to the door size.
I’ve been debating ccu to a starlancer max but I can’t bring myself to get rid of the cream sickle dream lol. I’ve had it for 6 years now. Made me 100’s of millions. It’s even a twitch emote for my channel lol… but my Taurus??? It may have to go lol
Part of my heart is still with the freelancer max. It looks like a normal Freelancer with a scaling issue and handles like a boat full of bricks, but I really loved flying it. Moved on to a cutlass after a few run ins with griefers, though.
07:07 My guess ist the the sneak peak hints towards the Hull-B since the corridor looks very Misc Hull-A like, i might be wrong but thats the vibe i get from it.
Yeah started with the base Freelancer must'a been back in '14 then found the Max and oh she's a beauty but I have to say my heart truly lies with my MIS
I love my Max. I didn't realize they'd fixed the turret issue...that's been a headache for a freaking while. I haven't logged in for about a year though. Been busy with life.
Honestly, the MAX is the cargo ship most cargo haulers SHOULD be flying. With the changes coming in 3.24, loading and unloading massive cargo ships like the C2 or Caterpillar is going to be a real pain for solo cargo haulers. Meanwhile, the MAX is the perfect size for one person, it has an admirable amount of cargo, it can reasonably defend itself, and it can even support multicrew if you do have some friends who want to ride along.
The good ole Freelancer series - I just love them, and I know they are not for everyone - but anyways, I dig 'em :) note: and the recent rework is nicer .
They should allow the rear passenger seats to take remote control of their respective side turrets offering 360 degree of coverage instead of just forward firing from the captains seat. But allowing the captains seat to have basic fire control when they aren't being operated.
the freelancer series is pretty sick. I think they should have swapped the paint between this and the basic freelancer. This feels like the firefly to me. shine and chrome!
I feel like reworking ships is more important than releasing new ships. Feel worse for the people that bought ships years ago that still dont work. This freelancer max for instance, still cant load a ROC without serious danger of clipping and the scanner doesn't work.
The Freelancer MAX is just a pleasure to fly and haul with. It’s a perfect size for drug smuggling/hauling: you can get in/out fast, and it attracts little attention. The only downside is she’s not good defensively and I’d like to see extra added to the pilot weapons to ensure as a ship it’s not such a piracy target. Clearly some major redesign is needed internally for the ‘shielded cargo’ segment, as no clear way to load and unload from it in the new patch, so that’s one thing. I think the matte black paint job is the best look for the MAX.
They don't need a new team. The person who created it can make it look really nice and still better get into all the appointments. They just gonna take time, do it, which I agree with you. They should do rest of the ship's first I mean, it's probably 10000 ships they gotta make yet. For each class yet. They gotta make it seem like it's a real thing. And they gotta be created a hundred different Solar systems or Galaxy's or something like they got a lot of work ahead of them. Yet they never wanted to stop working on it. They always wanna make it better. They wanna make it so a game will never end.
For an alien spaceship form with joint with a human company. For some reason the Shield should be a 100000 with really good armor on it.Maybe they're built Strong not fast
Keep the seats/beds, transporting (smuggling) people(NPC) and their cargo (contraband) through transient jump points is going to be a profitable loop. Supposedly this is the largest ship capable of transmiting small jump points.
I give it a rate as two You can't see how to ship the flight.Else everything else in it is good and it's also a good minor I would I think it's still good for mineing
The front window should be a little bit higher. So you can see better or they should put you right up to the front window. So they could see out nicer. But they made that so terrible so that you could run into rocks and stuff and destroy your ship All the time, they made it, so it can't be one that could be in space.

@@troyporter6323 Sadly you’re now referring to the 3.24 era of cargo. And the Freelancer needs some rework to actually make loading and unloading convenient as that’s its entire use case. Let’s hope a lot of the older ships get the TLC they deserve.
I miss my max to be honest. 😢 That middle bay door should be marker so when we are manually loading stuff we can fill up that room. Being an MSR pilot I miss those entrances and pilot DPS.
Still holding onto my Max because of CiG saying it was the largest ship to use small jump points if that is still a thing. If not it gets melted and OG $150 Taurus takes its spot.
Love the Freelancer MAX ! For a cargo hauler, are the three S2 shields (18 000pt) tanky enough compared to the Constellation or Corsair 's single S3 shield (100 000pt) ? I got glown up sooooo many times in my Corsair, I fear the MAX will be too fragile ! Definetely a ship I'm trying to grind for (if it weren't for bugs haha) in-game. A few things could be improved (the rear turret should be remote controled by one of the crew from the cockpit, in my opinion). and also I wish it had a white paint with few red accents like we see on so many other ships, or the basic MISC chrome/metal paintjob. BTW, are all the focus/blurry effect in the video in-game ?
it really needs it front half reworked, ditch one side of bunks and take out the rear cockpit seats, have the extra space for a lounge/rec area and suit/weapons locker. for a hauler meant for risky routes (according to the first communications about it) it lacks quite some features for that. and make the turret remote for the co-pilot! still love it though
I like a lot of things on the MAX. But it needs a rework, as does the entire Freelancer series. The living quarters could be better, you don't need space for 4 people. Same thing in the cockpit. Maybe 3 seats (one for a passenger). Also, the turret could have a better access. but all in all its a great ship
And the price went down in a few years.Sounds like I should go back and get internet again and have to fix my house back up and buy that shit Even though I was never able to play it until I got a big enough computer.Didn't I had a house fire right away?So I haven't been able to play at all. But buying that ship or something I want it
We'll be seeing a lot more haulers the size of the Max and lower at outposts come 3.24 seeing that outposts will only deal in small quantities and 1-2 SCU boxes, you wont be taking big haulers to them any more
they won't deal with small quantities per say, but rather in the sizes of boxes that they have in their inventory. No 32 SCU Containers in outpost does not mean you won't be getting 32 SCU worth of commodities in smaller boxes.
I think they will each be better in different ways. I am not sure if an Ursa Rover will fit in a Zeus (depends on the angle of the ramp/clearances). It will fit on the Max, and I look at the Max as having the best vehicle hauling capability in its class. This is a nice perk since it doesn't have a tractor beam and makes it less than ideal for zero-g operations. Either way, I think both ships are going to be great. 🙂
@@JL-rj9fl I think, by looking at the pics from the Zeus interieur, the Ursa would fit even better. The cargo seems to be wider and there is no Turret blocking the entrance.
@@throdwobblermangrove6200 Hopefully it'll fit, that will be nice. I was concerned the most about the height of the ceiling from entering the ramp at an angle. As you come up and over the ramp and on to the cargo deck, the front of the rover might make contact. Of course, I don't know for sure. 🙂
This is the thought process of someone who wants their stuff.... Not a wise business choice or development choice at all. What exactly do you think this engine runs on? Pats on backs and pizza parties?? You don't stop the whole train because of something like that.
@@durtyred86 What's the point of keeping the engine running if it's putting out broken or not working features (ships) and can't sustain them? Obviously selling new ships makes money, but if making that money doesn't benefit people who already spent money it's bad business. Most other games are able to release new content (ie. new classes and races in a traditional MMO) while still updating and maintaining the existing. It's crazy to think of a game like WoW releasing new classes and never balancing or updating the existing classes, but with Star Citizen you have people defending the company for doing just that.
@KelrCrow WoW has completed their platform. Star Citizen has not. You don't put icing and candles on an unbaked cake, then shove it in the oven. That's ass backwards and will cause unnecessary backtracking... Once they come to realize what they actually want to do with the ships that are released but in need of improvements, they'll get on it. They no longer release ships with no purpose like they did a few years ago. Now, every ship released has some form of ability that's actively present within their sandbox. I'm invested in this... backing out and saying "f*ck this project" is NOT an option for some of us. We're here to see them succeed. Not complain the whole ride there.
@@durtyred86 You do understand that criticism is the best thing you can provide during any kind of testing phase, right? Just saying "this is good" the whole time doesn't help them make a better product. Complaining the whole ride there will point out where the game and development process are lacking, allowing them to (hopefully) improve. Too many of the Star Citizen fan base are against any kind of criticism. If we're following your logic, why have they done any "Gold Passes" at all? If fixing existing ships can't be worked on yet because the game's not done, but creating new ships can, why would any ship have had a Gold Pass and why would more be on the schedule?
The Max is a good ship, but I am really not a fan of how it's just stretched out to gain the extra cargo space. Especially since the front of the ship isn't modified, making it look like two separate ship pieces glued together.
'lancer was my first ship in 2015. Got the DUR thinking it would have S5 guns, then the size rework hit. MAX has been my bread and butter basic transport ever since. I disagree with your rating and would rate it a 7 at best and here are the reasons why: -It has maintained the same $ price from 2015 despite being a much lesser ship than what was originally sold. -Its maneuverability is INSANELY WORSE than the other versions despite it only being a bit bigger (and it has more/bigger engines so that's unacceptable) -Correct, those seats were SUPPOSED to control the side turrets but we've never had that functionality, reflecting on the fact that this ship has been largely neglected over the years -The manned turret is hot garbage with only two S2's and a horrendous field of view (my crew literally refuse to get in it whenever we're using the MAX randomly)
I like the base freelancer better, with the MAX i think a stretch to The Connie Taurus is more reasonable, lot more firepower, lot more shields, hull hp, 50 SCU more as well. Overall better, worth the extra money. DUR and MIS are in a very bad place, not even consider it.
I have the Freelancer MAX, from the start it came on sell, i have followed Star Citizen from the start. But now i got a problem i fund out The Railen, is actually better 😞
😭😭I am sorry freelancer fans, but it is so ugly. And it is not ugly in the way Argo or Drake is, with their rough industrial look, it is just flat out weird ugly. Its "neck" looks so elongated with it going upwards like that.
If you prefer another content creator that’s totally cool, I’m not scripted and I enjoy talking about each ship. If you don’t like my videos you don’t need to watch them. :)
What a dry, stupid thing to say... They're both great content creators... He does it his way and Farraster his own... The problem here is you don't have enough Grey matter to understand what preference is. And if one isn't your preferred method, go elsewhere. Take that North Korean identical haircut mentality somewhere else...😂😂

Easy to upgrade to 4 gatling canons, that really catches them by surprise
I'm kind of surprised that you didn't go over the rear turret in the Firepower section.
@@Beau74 going over turret DPS is something newer I have been doing. Expect on my next pass of this ship and other freelancers to have that info!
I do like my Freelancer Max, but I find the viewing area to be very claustrophobic.
Great review, thank you.
WIll it be possible to load cargo into the second smaller hold, through the door in 2.24?
I give it a rate as two You can't see how to ship the flight.Else everything else in it is good and it's also a good minor I would I think it's still good for mineing
Semi trucks and their trailers are massive, but they break apart like paper machete, they're just made of fiberglass lol
I really enjoy your videos
id enjoy them making this a two seater since the Starlancer is so much bigger.
100% agreed.
The front window should be a little bit higher. So you can see better or they should put you right up to the front window. So they could see out nicer. But they made that so terrible so that you could run into rocks and stuff and destroy your ship All the time, they made it, so it can't be one that could be in space.
Size one and two boxes fit through the door it's a little tricky getting them in you got to have them turned and aimed just right but they do fit been flying my max since 2016 love it
@@troyporter6323 Sadly you’re now referring to the 3.24 era of cargo. And the Freelancer needs some rework to actually make loading and unloading convenient as that’s its entire use case. Let’s hope a lot of the older ships get the TLC they deserve.
I miss my max to be honest. 😢
That middle bay door should be marker so when we are manually loading stuff we can fill up that room.
Being an MSR pilot I miss those entrances and pilot DPS.
Still holding onto my Max because of CiG saying it was the largest ship to use small jump points if that is still a thing. If not it gets melted and OG $150 Taurus takes its spot.
I debated between the c1 and the max. Max is a little more $ and is more versatile, but the c1asthetics finally won me over.
Can't wait for the gold pass to bring it up to standards. It's just been way too long. I love the military version a lot!
Great review and great ship mines in red and gold, but is there any word on the v tol for it?
The were the two Luminalia paints, one being white with metallic blue highlights.
it really needs it front half reworked, ditch one side of bunks and take out the rear cockpit seats, have the extra space for a lounge/rec area and suit/weapons locker. for a hauler meant for risky routes (according to the first communications about it) it lacks quite some features for that. and make the turret remote for the co-pilot! still love it though
But buying that ship or something I want it
...Freelancer Team! 🎉
First thing to do with this ship is fly out to Area18 and buy a new paint job.
Could I request review videos for some origin ships like 400i. 600i and 890J
23.1 currently has ping mostly broken it seems. So Roc mining is a bit of a drag
i love my freelancer max :)
wow, 18000 bubble shield that you have to turn off to escape because this ship is not meant for PVP? amazing! so cool and useful! BUY BUY BUY!
We'll be seeing a lot more haulers the size of the Max and lower at outposts come 3.24 seeing that outposts will only deal in small quantities and 1-2 SCU boxes, you wont be taking big haulers to them any more
I plan on paying the premium to have others load my ship for me, I’m too posh to haul manually.
they won't deal with small quantities per say, but rather in the sizes of boxes that they have in their inventory. No 32 SCU Containers in outpost does not mean you won't be getting 32 SCU worth of commodities in smaller boxes.
10/10
Thgis ship is great.
I just hope, the Zeuss CL will be as good, or maybe better, than the Freelancer MAX.
If the Nursa doesn't fit in the Zeus I'll happily sell back and purchase one of these tbh. Gives me an excuse to have one in the fleet 👀😂
@@TheThorJunki They're both really nice ships - it's a good problem to have at least.😄
It's funny I feel like the existing ships should be fixed, updated, and working properly before they keep putting out new ships.
That's new money you talking about there homie,
they not gonna do that, lol
If fixing existing ships can't be worked on yet because the game's not done, but creating new ships can, why would any ship have had a Gold Pass and why would more be on the schedule?
i love it too
Worth upgrading from the c1 spirit to this?
If you want a bigger cargo grid and be able to carry the URSA/NURSA
Cutlass review in the near future?
The Max is a good ship, but I am really not a fan of how it's just stretched out to gain the extra cargo space. Especially since the front of the ship isn't modified, making it look like two separate ship pieces glued together.
The ship that needs more love
I think they are just trying to get as many multi crew ships to be ready for engineering as possible
I have the Freelancer MAX, from the start it came on sell, i have followed Star Citizen from the start. But now i got a problem i fund out The Railen, is actually better 😞
I had this as my starter pack from 2013 but it sucks to fly so I melted it
When I bought into the game and bought several ships. That was the biggest miss spaceship at the time
Ill fly with you anytime just let me know!
"It's a very big ship."
My Hull C begs to differ.
You do realize that rework is part of the backlog
I feel like the backlog of ships not yet made flyable is more important than refreshes on released ships.
omni-sky not om-ski
😭😭I am sorry freelancer fans, but it is so ugly. And it is not ugly in the way Argo or Drake is, with their rough industrial look, it is just flat out weird ugly. Its "neck" looks so elongated with it going upwards like that.
o7
So many ships so little actual gameplay
farrister outshines you so much by not putting so many opinions in his videos
If you prefer another content creator that’s totally cool, I’m not scripted and I enjoy talking about each ship. If you don’t like my videos you don’t need to watch them. :)
What a dry, stupid thing to say... They're both great content creators... He does it his way and Farraster his own... The problem here is you don't have enough Grey matter to understand what preference is. And if one isn't your preferred method, go elsewhere. Take that North Korean identical haircut mentality somewhere else...😂😂
