- Always one step ahead of the game, Mad Max universe creator, George Miller, says he’s already locked and loaded with at least one more story from the dystopian wasteland. The director’s latest film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga may not rev its engines and speed into cinemas until this Friday, May 24, but Miller says he and his collaborators are ready with an idea for what could possibly be the next installment in the franchise. During an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub prior to heading to the Cannes Film Festival, where the picture celebrated its world premiere last week, Miller spoke about the next story he wants to tell.
The director revealed that the creative process behind bringing Mad Max: Fury Road to the big screen entailed forming a backstory about not just Furiosa (which will be seen in the upcoming movie), but also about where Max was before the events of the 2015 Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy-led production. Giving a firm “Yes, we do,” when asked whether the team had any potential ideas for future installments, Miller explained:
“Mainly because to tell the story of Fury Road, which happens over a very compressed amount of time, you could argue that the first act of Fury Road and the last act are almost playing in real time over three days in order to tell that story on the run. Picking up all the backstory, all the exposition on the way, everybody working on the film - not only the cars, but all the designers, all the prop makers, everybody - had to understand the backstory very intimately in order for it to be coherent.
So, we had to write the story of Furiosa and the 18 years, as it turns out, before we meet her in Fury Road. We also had to write the story of the year of Max in the year before we encounter him in Fury Road. So, we have that story. We wrote that as a novella, Nico Lathouris and I, and so that's the story we have yet to tell.”

I hope he can complete his modern mad max trilogy
hope its not nearly another 10 years
@@kevinfelix2543 now, it's very unfortunate that Furiosa numbers is low...I very scared that WB won't greenlit next mad max movie because of this one doesn't do well in box office
@@farhanabdurrohman270 if WB didnt try to take georges 7 million bonus if he'd come in under the arranged budget for fury road. They inflated his budget numbers after he did in fact come in under budget saving the studio money. nearly ten years of a legal battle kept Furiosa from being made sooner.
@@kevinfelix2543 yeah, all of that is crazy and unnecessary
he will
I need a new Mad Max movie every 2 years for the next 8 decades
Ok
Please and thank you
a Netflix series!
Facts
i'm surprised at how well the interviewer put it, not demanding 'what's your next movie, what is it about, when is it' but 'do you have more story to tell of this world'
Let’s all say a prayer that the next one with Tom Hardy doesn’t take 10 years again
How about just making one final one with Mel as Max? Crazy idea, I know.
@@maulcsMel doesn't want too
@@maulcs Mel is too fucking old dude.

Long live George Miller we need you for more story about Mad Max
So what im hearing is the first film was to introduce this band of characters, Furiosa helped explain how her character as well as the warlords got to where they are, now we will see how Max got there and likely explain his visions, then we will see what happens to their characters post-Fury Road. I hooe it doesn't take another 10 years, and that the cast are all still reprised roles!
please bring back Tom as Max! I beg you Mr. Miller
Who tf else would he bring?
@@hugomintrom6264Logan Marshall
A younger actor, just like did with Furiosa.
@@GoodmansGhost bro it takes place a year before listen to the interview
George Miller is an amazing director. 👍💯
May he get a long healthy life and bless us with few more mad max movies
Great little morsel of information. Would love to see it someday! Soon, perhaps 😃. I'm looking forward to this weekend, gonna be watching Furiosa!
So this is what Mad Max : The Wasteland is all about.
Hopefully it's from the cancelled TV series that he's developing back in around 96 because that plot still makes sense if it's a prequel to Fury Road.
…My man!! I knew he was gonna go back to Max’s story sooner or later!
He better hurry since the Furiosa sequel took ten years to get made.
Part of that was that there was a lawsuit between george miller and wb, then there was also covid so hopefully the next film won't take that long
@@thomaspaterson1354 ah ha so that was the reason!
@purefoldnz3070 Yeah, WB said he went over budget, but Miller said that he only went over budget cause they made him reshoot stuff so they did have to pay him his bonus on the film
genuinelly hope he can do it. it would be cool to have a "reverse trilogy". but even if he didn't, I'd be happy with him releasing like one massive Mad Max movie with furiosa and fury road spliced together, putting chapters and altering some of the beginning sequence of fury road to fit a continuous narrative.
George Miller is awesome
Hoping for either a nux prequel or a mad max prequel that takes place between when Demetrius was killed and furosia took the wives, should definitely do a remake of the mad max game into live action, would make sense with scrotus being alive during furosia and than being gone and absent of during fury road
The problem wasn’t because the film Furiosa was a prequel. It was very good, the cg was a bit much. The problem was it wasn’t about max.
Make Old Man Max and Young max films, we can get a good double trilogy back to back
I recommend the actor Paul Mescal in the role of Max. His facial features are reminiscent of Mel Gibson, and he's a great performer. The Waste Land with Mad Max
Superb director
Very sad we're likely never see it.
Is he going to cast Logan . Marshall as Max?
Best movie of the year and best action sequence of all time! Desert action overwhelming Dune 1.2 is sucked into the sand with the sound of a heart-throbbing engine
Please George stay healthy, i know it's egoisthic, but we need your genius
Mr. Miller, please bring back "Master-Blaster" and the feral kid.
Why specify it being a prequel? That would mean that Max himself carries a storyline, when he really doesn’t. I’m not George Miller and am not writing a Mad Max film, though, so what do I know?
Gibson teaching feral kid how to be the next Road warrior please. Connect the 5 movies!!!
Well i hope it gets done soonish and we get more Tom Hardy rather than somebody new.
I'd really enjoy another Mad Max Movie with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron reprising their roles. Hopefuly within the next 5 years, not another decade.
A Mad Max movie about Mad Max? Bold move.
Would Mad Max make a better TV series than just a few movies?
Anya Taylor Joy is an excellent actor, but Charlize Theron was the reason Furiosa became so popular in the first place - even if you had some difficulties together on Fury Road, Werner Herzog made 5 films w Klaus Kinski lol
It wasn't so much Charlize and George who had trouble getting along. Who could get upset with such a sweet, old man. It was Charlize and Tom who butted heads on the set of Fury Road and ending up tainting the entire production.
So basically a re-boot of the 1st Mad Max?
No. George Miller said that after the events of the Road Warrior, the Mad Max stories become as if they had been passed down for generations--in this way you can account for some of the loosely connected timeline features of his universe.
Charlize Theron stole the show in Fury Road, which inspired a prequel about the charector.
Nope.
Furiosa was written long before fury road began filming
Furiosa and Fury Road were both being written around 2000. They wrote Fury Road and they wrote the back stories for every character.
What's after the death of Immortan Joe in fury road..is it the end..
He stated in the video the next movie he has planned takes place a year before Fury Road and focuses on Mad Max
It's a shame he doesnt seem to be interested in what happens to Max and Furiosa after Fury Road at all. If Hardy and Theron are available, why not make a sequel? There are too many prequels in movies already.
He's already spoken about this--Charlize and Tom were constantly bickering, and it got so bad that Tom had to be "coaxed out of his trailer" in the mornings to begin filming. As a duo, they were incredibly difficult to work with, and it may be difficult to get them to rejoin the franchise.
What is there after Fury Road lol?
Furiosa had the worst Memorial Day weekend in over 30 years on a budget of $170 million. There will never be another Mad Max movie.
The previous one lost to Pitch Perfect 2. Opening weekend is not how you meassure a movie success.
They said that 37 years ago. Never say never.
I want one more Mad Max movie with Tom Hardy....I need one. I hope he can get it done.
I genuinely wonder how many cinema goers who went to see Fury Road and/or Furiosa realise that the original Mad Max was released in 1979 starring Mel Gibson?
Fury Road was the first I saw, but I was aware of the originals and Gibson when I saw it. Went back to watch the first two soon after. Took some years before I bothered with Thunderdome.
Bring back Mel!!!
1 zillion per cent. Tom Hardy was excellent, but the Mad and Mighty Max is the 1 and only Mel Gibson.
We also need the "boomerang" feral kid back!
I'm sick of prequels. I'm sure Furiosa is a well made movie but I want to see Mad Max going forward in the story. It's why Furiosa will disappoint at the box office, maybe even lose the studio money.
His arc concluded pretty well in fury road though.
He regains the humanity he had lost
Mad Max Fury Road is one of the greatest movies ever made, but it didn't make money. At best, it broke even. If Furiosa fails... it will have nothing to do with the fact that it is a prequel. It's a 2 and a half hour R-rated movie. That limits the audience quite a bit.
Oh they got miller...put chick in it unfortunately
STOP WITH THE PREQUELS WE DONT CARE GO FORWARD
Stfu, Furiosa is GREAT
That makes no sense, Mad Max movies are fun becuz they're in the Mad mAx post-apocalyptic world, it doesnt fucking matter if its a prequel or a sequel dumbass, Mad Max Fury Road could easily be a prequel to Mad Max 2 all these movies are completely disconnected
@@farhanabdurrohman270you haven’t even seen it 😂
