I started my medical RUclips channel two months ago, and I have over 600 subscribers and a few of the videos are performing well on the channel. I must admit that it is not an easy process, and that it certainly takes a great deal of time. While this may be the case, I highly enjoy creating the content, and I get a lot of support and encouragement from random strangers, which is totally worth it to me. To everyone who is just starting their journey into this, my advice is that, if you are doing it for money, then it is not worth it since I get paid a lot more at work than what I would get once I reach 1k subscribers. But if you are doing it because you care about people, and want to educate your community, then its totally worth. Thanks for your advice, all of them were spot on.
Brilliant…thank you. You covered all the basic points, especially video length - the most important component, in my view. I can’t survive longer than 15 minutes on most viewings. I also agree about ignoring offensive comments. It’s extraordinary to think that there are people trolling youtube looking to deliberately undermind and offend others. This video is useful for any aspiring youtuber, even non-medics! Thanks again.
Thanks so much! Something I do sometimes is watch at double speed if I know I want to watch something 'til the end but it's a long one :) although you can miss detail at double speed admittedly.
Thanks for this enlightening Video Mike! The amount of time that goes in the background of making videos is crazy! Thanks for spelling this out for us!

I was searching about health because I want to run a RUclips channel about health. So I stumbled upon your video. My mentor always tell me that some people create videos especially for a particular person. This video is up to a year, but it found me. I am glad Thanks Sir
Love that notion. All of my videos are for the person I was last year and fixing the problems I had last year. So hopefully that can help others who were in my position as well.
@@GPONTHEMOVE Thank you. This video made me think about what I should be focusing on- patient-facing or doctor-facing. I’m interested in creating an educational channel for GPs given my additional training in sports and exercise medicine and keeping my current channel as patient education channel. I love teaching medicine. Any advice??
I love Ali Abdaal's videos also. I'm a genetic counselor about to twilight this channel (a homesteading channel) to start a new one that focuses on my specialty (patient focused, there aren't that many GC's out there in general, let alone in the patient facing GC space). Any suggestions when trying to compete with institutional resources? I'm thinking that it will need to be much less dry, a more entertaining presentation of helpful info. More personal and relatable. I'm a bullet point presenter and don't like scripting out word for word as I feel like that limits my personality. I do practice running through the bullet points a couple times first, to present the info more smoothly.
You have answered your own question better than I would have! :) It's all about doing you, being yourself and that will shine through better than any institution.
You should look into Shoreline Health. I found it through my physician and seriously I don’t know how every doctor in the world doesn’t use it. They help doctors make compliant videos for patients without spreading false information. It’s awesome, good luck!
My age is 20 i am a medical student i also want to create a healthy channel but I have no knowledge about this so from where we can find that topics. I think that if i copy script or get idea from other youtube videos and i upload this and i add my own editing but i think later can youtube monitize my channel?
I think copying scripts is probably not the best way forward. Maybe you can just talk about the things you are learning about in medical school? Or even about your experience of being a medical student? I've seen a lot of successful youtube channels of medical student just talking about what being a medical student is like.
Ideally you would want to put out 1 video a week, but I found that difficult to sustain, so would do 10 videos and then have a month off and then repeat
