Just dropping in to say that your tutorial saved the day for me! We're exhibiting a bunch of classic consoles at the 2024 Bay Area Maker Faire this weekend, and one of them is our trusty Atari 2600 playing "Night Driver," which needs the paddles... and ours were so jumpy that the game was basically unplayable. I just gave your fix a try and now they're working super smooooothly. Thank you!
Yeah, I should have mention that some older controllers have pots that may need removal, but you can still sometimes get the cleaner in them enough to make it work without having to remove them.
Thanks! This worked great. My Aunt just gave me a 7800 with a bunch of controllers. There's one that says "driving" that isn't working. Button does though. The innards are different than the paddles
A Driving Controller is only usable with the game Indy 500 (or its homebrew extended version). Paddles have rackets as symbols on them, Driving Controllers should have a racing car on their label. Driving Controllers spin in both directions without limits, Paddles have a limit in both directions. Paddles come in pairs for every joystick port, Driving Controllers are singles.😅
When I took the back cover off mine, there was a circular black thing stuck to the metal part, and I couldn't get it off. I sprayed all around it anyway. Much better, but still kind of jittery unfortunately. Any suggestions?

Worked for me! Much easier than some of the other tutorials on here and much less work. Thank you!
Thank you! This did the trick for me. Very glad that, in my case, I didn't have to remove the pot to do so, as some other videos recommend.

Thank you for giving some attention to the Paddles. Kaboom, Warlords, Medieval Mayhew is still awesome for any 8 year .
