- KLOPP'S GENIUS SUBS WON IT! | Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United analysis
Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Sheffield United on Thursday evening.
But it was a far trickier test than the Reds might have expected from the side currently sat rock bottom of the division.
Reporter David Lynch was there to see Jurgen Klopp's side claim an important three points, but thought it came thanks to one of their poorer performances of the season.
That is apart from the outstanding Alexis Mac Allister and several key contributions from Klopp's substitutes.

What did you think of Liverpool's performance?
Id love to know how you get all the stats straight after a game?
Very frustrating and stressful! City and Arsenal won yesterday so it was so important for them to win. I am glad they won.
And also so sad to see goodbye to Klopp since I live in the U.S.. it’s a last time to see him in person.
Got the win with Macca smashing it in the top corner need to keep the pressure on for Sunday Endo back in Midfield which release The Macca
job. done. simple as.
Sluggish, but a good win for momentum. Hopefully we will start better on Sunday!
What a strike from Macca , that is Gerrard's goal against Olympiacos at the Kop. We have a young "Messi" in our team. 💪💪💪
Saw you setting up in the background of Neil Jones' video. And here now, Neil walking by as you start yours. The circle is complete 😅
😂 I really thought I was doing a decent job of not getting in Neil’s shot too!
Really dug in to win tonight. Love the never say die attitude. Macallister fantastic again and Elliott really made a difference again. Thanks for your review David. Best LFC content.
Don't think my nerves can take much more...I'm seriously thinking of watching golf 😂❤
Brilliant stream has always David
Thanks Tanya! Thought we might get a rare straightforward one tonight… as if.
Not sure how we keep doing it but come lads ynwa
So nice to see Jones back. He just makes things knit together and very secure in possession. Brilliant to see Gakpo looking like the Gakpo we know he can be and using his pace and size well. And Harvey excellent again, always looks like he's thinking about the next move. It's a mystery to me how Gravenberch is preferred to Harvey. The latter has only had one so-so performance I can remember this season, otherwise always a 7 or 8/10. From the start we had the age-old issue of being comatose against supposedly inferior opponents until it was life or death, with 5 or 6 of the starting XI virtually absent in mind if not body. Maybe it's not a bad thing that several of our remaining games don't look straightforward.....
We got the job done, that's all that matters for me you know. I can rest easy now.
Come on red men ✌️⚽
Great analysis. I always love to come here and watch your take after a good Liverpool win.
Ynwa.
David, a good, precise summation of the game (as usual). I’ve been watching at Anfield for 55 years, and I still get impressed when you analyse an incident that passed me by - you have an excellent eye for the game!
That’s really kind of you mate thank you. Appreciate you watching!
Can’t imagine how the game would have turned out, if Sheffield had taken their chance in the opening few seconds 😅. Thank goodness Darwin Chaos Nunez decided to charge down the keeper, 999 times out of 1000, it’s a fruitless task but Nunez always tries, no matter the odds 😂.
Yeah imagine if Sheffield scored in the first minute. The game would have finished 3-1 to Liverpool
We missed Endo out there. Grav, Gomez and Salah were off it I thought. If we can start with Endo, Curtis & Harvey on Sunday we’ll be able to put in a better performance. That’s another must win game so let’s hope we avenge the FA Cup game. Great round up as always David, cheers.
Very good analysis. My new go to liverpool journo. Ive been saying for weeks i dont understand joe gomez being selected, whilst hes tactically excellent when we're in and out of possession and particularly when we lose the ball, he simply doesn't have the technical ability to contribute to the attack outside of crossing from the right hand side is not bad. I feel its too safe and tsimikas should have been given a chance, we have lacked width and balance in attack. However as you said this game along with Robertson finally back should hopefully resolve this issue. I love gomez but im praying hes not starting against united.
You're smashing this mate, well done - absolutely brilliant!
Cheers Gav!
A very fair analysis. Well done.
Do you know what? Never doubt the Reds this season
We need the return of the Brexit midfield for Sunday, jones, endo and macallister …as close as we have it,
Very awkward tactics to play against after last nights results. Great 3 points. 8 more 'cup finals' to go. YNWA
Great video David! Really enjoying your content.
Nice one, Trey!
Thank you too 🎉
So happy to see Klopp sub Salah, he’s been really poor in the last two games. His touch, passing and even his speed have been really below par.
The tbings this team does to me bloody hell...
thought the tempo was too low before the subs; had a few near inteceptions as passing speed was too low before the Sheffield counter attack from arguably lack of pressure on the ball
Great performance
When have Liverpool this season been at their best this was a normal game if someone could tell me the last game we played and we were just comfortable not being chaotic and controlling the game without giving up big chances.sheffield where allowed to look good we made it that way by being playing how we play. Arsenal's goal difference is partly thanks to Sheffield United who they absolutely slapped 6-0 yet we are fighting life and death against bottom of the table stressful 😂
Well done redmen❤
Gravenberch was poor. I'm a bit worried about his mental strength or lack of it. He can wilt in a game of he gets a hard tackle, a bit the way Nabby Keita used to. Is he suited to the Prem? Only time will tell.
Salah, Szobo, Gravenberch, and Gomez were not great, rightly all got subbed off. Gomez to blame for the goal conceded. Beaten too easily on the left and let them put a brilliant cross which was behind Bradley, who was very unfortunate with the own goal. Salah did nothing much. Szobo tries to be too clever in the final 3rd
The worst performance of the season. LFC players just went through the motions with no cutting edge or game plan for large parts of this game. Salah & Gravenbertch had no reason to be vexed after they were subbed both were awful. Mcallister was our best player and the subs by Klopp were brilliant.
# 83 % possession , highest figure ever recorded by #Opta #Since2003
Didn’t clock that, crazy!
It's not genius when your attack can't turn dominance into goals, your team can't control a game and it requires substitutes to win. It means something is wrong in the preparations when the team starts slowly. They could have conceded early again. Is he getting the starting line-up wrong? The attack is not elite at all. Nunez, Diaz and Salah run at full speed and look extremely busy but they are rarely a threat and consistently choose the wrong option. It used to be that FSG Liverpool midfielders had not threat. Now, the attackers have little threat. FSG Liverpool are looking the least fluent of the three contenders. Manchester City and Arse'nal dismantled Sheffield United. FSG Liverpool struggled badly, at home.
David Lynch is my go to analysis following the final whistle. Thank you, David.
Thanks for watching mate!
Nice one Dave! not good for the heart, but worth it!!
Mo was poor very poor. Needed to be taken off. Liverpool need to start taking their chances , this is an on going problem.
The front 3 don't really do it for me.....nice guys, they give 100%, but......I'll be happy when Jota's back.....and please, give Jayden Danns a run out......
We’re playing United this weekend. Both Liverpool and United have prepared for the weekend by scoring 3 goals, with different outcomes though 😂😂😂
It’s not our best performance but we managed to comeback and got 3 points! Alexis second goal was crucial and third one from Cody just sealed it. Alexis deserves to be MOTM. I like his post interview on Cody with TNT. Glad to see Cody scored. ❤❤❤ YNWA. Let’s focus on the next game and hope we can win.
Taking Salah off i thought,,,hmm mm 🤔,,,but then the other sub's?,,,, The Boss knew what he was doing ! Thanks as usual David.YNWA❤
Games like this remind me how good Klopp actually is. This team fights for him and for me is over achieving in the league.
Worries me for when Klopp moves on.
Gravenberch should not be starting. He was the weak link today.
If the defence doesn't tighten up , it will take 4 goals to win on Sunday .
Not sure about that
Super round up of the match and the players, as always. Cheers👍
Thank you mate!
Curtis Jones has to take szoboslai place
He’s a passenger in most games
Seriously needs to step it up a notch
Think it often gets forgotten that he’s still very young. Has been brilliant at times this season and there’s a lot more to come from him.
@@davidlynchlfc yeah I agree
Yes Klopps subs changed the game, but his first team settup was a mess?
Gomez was playing more as a CDM, than a left back. Left our back three open and wide, offered no support for Diaz. Robbo must start against United
