Helicopter blades push the air down when they are spinning, creating a positive pressure, not a vacuum. So you would not get "sucked up" into the blades. You crouch down as you near the rotor tip path as the blades are able to change their plane of rotation or angle of attack. Strong winds can push the blades up or down relative to the rotor mast while the helicopter is sitting on the ground with the engine(s) running. Think of a spinning disc on your finger tip. You vary the angle of the spin horizontally by applying an external force to the disc. If the blades are spinning slower, say at idle, they can droop and the tips will be nearer to the ground. @@davidq.5488 Yeah, for those who don’t know, this has become completely normalized in superhero films nowadays: 5% shirtless scenes where they do these extreme workouts combined with dehydration to squeeze out as much water weight as possible (and, though they won’t admit it, steroids); then 95% keeping the hero in a full-body suit you can digitally alter in post so the actor doesn’t straight-up die from the stress of it all. (Then they get “dad bod” between films because unless you won the genetic lottery, the whole process ages you prematurely.)
So glad you guys took this for what it was, an unapologetic over-the-top action masterpiece! Some people crap on this movie because it's "unrealistic" but that's literally the point.
And I really don't understand how anyone can say this movie is unrealistic, when it's quite the opposite. This is all real just because of Schwarzenegger! I don't doubt for a second that he could've done ALL THIS in real life. =)
For me, this is the epitome of the outrageous 80s action movie. The only thing that's missing is Arnold taking a handful of bullets and throwing them at a group of enemies and killing them.
I'm from Spain. I saw this movie when I was 8 years old in a cinema in Morocco. Original version with arabic subtitles back when I couldn't understand one single word of english nor arabic. Yet I remember coming out of the cinema thinking I had watched the best movie in the world.
Glad you both enjoyed this film. I used to rewatch this all the time when I was a kid! Last Action Hero next for another great Arnold film. Beverly Hills Cop 1+2 is a must for 80's greatness

This movie really started the Arnie-as-quipster that continued through several of his action movies (i.e. Running Man). My favorite here is his exchange with Sully and with Cindy immediately afterwards. "I let him go".
Best "Van Damme movie": "Bloodsport" Best action movie starring Van Damme: "Hard Target" Solid, slick Euro-thriller: "Maximum Risk" Weirdly entertaining/so-bad-it's-good: "Knockoff" "Double Team" "No Retreat/No Surrender" Mediocre rehashes of Bloodsport: "Kickboxer" "The Quest" (They don't suck, but they're basically just more Bloodsport) Disappointing: "Universal Soldier" "Double Impact" (Not even "so bad it's good" they're just kind of boring.) Has a few fans that will stan for them: "Lionheart" "Timecop" "Sudden Death" At least there's Raul Julia: "Street Fighter" Kinda worthless: "Cyborg" "Death Warrant" "Nowhere to Run"
Two fun flicks with the actor that played Sully: “The Warriors,” and “Dreamscape.” Rae Dawn Chong is in another movie “The Principle.” Some other often overlooked Arnie flicks are: “Raw Deal,” “Eraser,” and “Red Heat.”
Best reaction ever. Classic 80's movie, great comments and just hilarious. If you want Bruce Willis, action and one liners, try The Last Boy Scout. Not sure how well it's aged but i used to love it.
3:50 "I feel like Jackson and Harris are not long for this world!" Wow...that is so cool, Simone MUST be a Star Trek fan...she can identify the Red Shirts in other fictional universes! 💯💯😁😁
The awkward Jean Claude Van Damme dance is from Kickboxer. It's a pretty good 80s action movie and I haven't seen any other react channels hit it either. Go for it!
Wasn't Commando supposed to be tongue in cheek? Or is that my millennial disposition assigning intentional humor to corny scenes? I've always taken this movie as a sort of satire on action movies, but still a great action movie at the same time lol
I know this movie should be taken lightly, BUT that scene where Arnold is gearing up, cocking his guns, and putting face paint on gets me hyped every time. I love that shit.
Great reaction!! Nothing could beat 80's Arnie action! Side note...Alyssa Milano was HUGELY popular as a child star on a sitcom called Who's the Boss with Tony Danza. She played his daughter. The show ran for years. Also, if not mentioned already, The lead actress is Rae Dawn Chong. Famous daughter of Tommy Chong. Now...about Cheech and Chong films...
The Brothers Corsican (or The Corsican Brothers) might have had rae dawn in it as well. I can't recommend the movie, yet I can't not recommend it either. It's weird
Simone enjoying the opening, nobody predicted that! Enjoy Simone, enjoy. As for good action movies from the era, Highlander has to be mentioned with a lead you guys haven't explored yet. Honorary mention of The Rock, Desperados and Falling Down.
I'm with her on this lol. 80s Arnold would destroy any modern action hero and I never once questioned his ability to carry a tree or wield impossibly heavy guns. He's the fuckin man
@@bwestacado9643 something that is overlooked is that it was so easy to lump guys like Stallone and Schwarzenegger together with all the other 80s action stars and see them all as mindless Meatheads but when you actually break down their respective filmography, they're both a cut above all the other action stars in their era, people forget that Stallone wrote and even directed a lot of his films and he always tried to put a very heavy level of character in the development of his films. Meanwhile Schwarzenegger had a level of charisma that a lot of his contemporaries did not have and also managed to give performances where you just couldn't imagine anybody else doing the role Justice. Even if they weren't the best films, you never really faulted either of them for their performances cuz you know at least they gave it their all.
In a way Commando has always reminded me of Sergio Leone's western My Name is Nobody. They are both intentionally comedic affectionate parodies of their own genres while simultaneously succeeding as pureblooded genre movies. It's a rare feat.
After having seen few Arnold movies, now you HAVE to watch his Last Action Hero. Few other top class 90s action movies are 'The Rock', 'Desperado', 'Face/Off'. Also I hope to see 'A Fistful of Dollars', 'For a Few Dollars More', 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' and 'Once Upon a Time in the West' some day on your channel.
"Where do you stand on parents kissing on the lips?" I grew up in the late 70's into the 80's, and that was definitely a thing. No one I know thought it was weird.
Grew up in the same decades & ALWAYS thought it was weird. Everyone I knew thought it was definately weird & heaven forbid it happened in front of your friends as you would never live it down, unless you changed schools.
@@katrinaleebaldwin4660 Was or still is? Kiss your kids on the lips at high school & see how that goes for them. Better yet kiss them on the lips in front of their s/o as an adult as a social experiment on the barometer of weird. If people think something isn't weird about it then that's on them!
We have a 7 yr old girl and 5 yr old boy. Not weird at all. Quick pecks on the lips when tucking in for the night or when I leave for work in the morning. Now obviously in a few years it's just not the same. They are getting older and you don't want to embarrass them lol.
George, you edited out my favourite line, when Cindy asks, shortly after Matrix drops Sully off a cliff, "What happened to Sully?" Arnold "I let him go." Genius.
That woman is Rae Dawn Chong Daughter of famous actor, comedian, and musician Tommy Chong She is also the person who discovered Chris Pratt, when he was a waiter in a restaurant in Hawaii. She ended up casting him in a short film she was directing.
As a kid I sarcastically pointed out how there's conveniently a swamp at the end of the runway. But an adult informed me that's a thing airports will do in the event of a malfunction crash landing.
Never one of my favorites, but I enjoyed watching you guys see the insanity that is "Commando!" Another flawed but fun action movie is "The Running Man" that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as well. Some of the lesser known 80's movies you should see, would be "The Last Starfighter" and "Night of the Comet." They're pure gold.
7:47 Blade 3 has child badass line too and the child says it with the most chill emotionless face it's really brilliantly delivered her line. Water world has a kid line to but it's just alright and the line is actually a long monologue
One of my favorite continuity mistakes in a movie, notice when Arnie flips the car from it's side the earlier damage is gone when they drive off. Edit: They noticed!
There's a story about how when Arnold macheted off the guys arm he wanted to hang onto it and beat the next guy with it. Also Point Break (1991) with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
The 80's were also a great time for the "buddy cop" genre. Usually, but not always, two mismatched partners, working together to solve a crime. Some of my favorites are the Lethal Weapon series, if you want more super-cheese like this movie, try Tango & Cash. But one of my favorites is Running Scared (1986) starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines, highly recommend.
Depending on how deep the 80s rabbit hole you want to go, Dolph Lundgren was pretty big. Some of his movies are absolute treasures they're so cliché 80s. Masters of the Universe is a must see in my opinion. It's so bad and so removed from its source material that it's almost good. Lol
Skeletor was great and Evil-Lyn had that perfect look, I think she was some famous soap opera villain before so she really knew how to give the look or enjoy suffering.
This fucking thumbnail is... perfection. This reaction explains the weird disturbance I felt in the force in early April... like... someone in Canada was _purring_. My parents used to kiss me on the lips and it was weird as shit in hindsight. 80s/90s action: Face/Off! A lot of folks also dig the Lethal Weapon movies. And I'd also say... The Evil Dead trilogy. Yes, the first one is a pure low-budget horror movie, but the second and the third pack great oneliners and that same sort of goofy, at times even cartoony feel that Commando has. Bruce Campbell is definitely among the iconic 80s one-liner dudes. (I could almost swear you'd already done Evil Dead 2 but either I'm confusing you with someone else or RUclips has hidden it from me.)
While we're on classic manly action movies, I can only recommend the Director's Cut of Payback (1999) with Mel Gibson, which also has the (in my mind) greatest Lucy Liu appearance ever!
These are some great reactions by Simone and George to watching Commando. Glad to see you both loved its action packed scenes. As for the helicopter question, the simple reason for bending down is to avoid the fatal possibility of being beheaded by the rotor blades frantically spinning round if you remained at full standing height. As for other films to recommend, I would suggest Cliffhanger, Lethal Weapon trilogy, the Mel Gibson film Ransom, Hard Target and Nowhere To Run, Eraser, The Running Man, Breakdown, Unlawful Entry, the Dirty Harry trilogy and Deep Blue Sea
Also, maybe an underrated 90s action star, but not the muscle bound variety : Antonio Banderas Mask of Zorro (Top 10 favorite action films) Desperado / Once Upon a Time in Mexico The 13th Warrior Assassins (With Stallone) Worth a mini deep dive into his work!
If you want to jump into Jean Claude Van Damme territory, I recommend: Hard Target, Bloodsport, Lionhart, Time Cop, Sudden Death, Cyborg, Nowhere to Run and Maximum Risk. Van Damme gave a lot of Hong Kong directors their chance to direct in Hollywood.
Commando is basically the quintessential 80s action movie. All the tropes, all the clichés, all the over the top cheesy action, and just completely unapologetic about it. It's not trying to be anything but a popcorn movie, and it's such a great popcorn movie! When it comes to action star/movie suggestions, if you haven't seen Big Trouble in Little China starring Kurt Russel I *highly* recommend it! Kurt Russel is another good star who did a bunch of very entertaining action movies. Big Trouble in Little China (directed by John Carpenter) is my personal favourite of his action movies, but others like Escape from New York and Tango And Cash are also a lot of fun. Kurt Russel also stars in The Thing (also directed by John Carpenter), which is a horror movie rather than action, but it's a must-watch as well.
Other 80s/90s action stars - Eddie Murphy - The Beverly Hills Cop movies are comedy/action but I'd only bother with the first and second movies. Golden Child is another. I'm sure George would have plenty to say about that one (ahem). 48 Hours and Another 48 Hours were both good and are more action/comedy than the other way around. Christian Slater - Hard Rain, Broken Arrow, True Romance, Cuffs (which is more comedy/action). Patrick Swayze - Red Dawn (1984), Road House (also has Sam Elliot and his mustache), Point Break (also has Keanu), Next of Kin (also has Liam Neeson). Liam Neeson - Next of Kin which I mentioned above, Darkman Micky Rourke - Year of the Dragon (I've never seen this one), Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, The Pope of Greenwich Village (never seen it), Johnny Handsome (probably my favorite of his, also has Morgan Freeman). Keanu Reeves - Point Break (mentioned above), Speed, The Matrix Rutger Hauer - Blind Fury, The Blood of Heroes, Split Second, and of course Blade Runner Peter Weller - The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Robocop, Robocop 2,
10:30 The stuntman who doubled Arnie for the swing across the mall was the same man who doubled Cybill Shepherd for the rooftop ladder gag in Moonlighting; Bob Yerkes.
Rae Dawn Chong also starred in Quest for Fire - which also stars Ron Perlman. She plays a Cro Magnon, Perlman plays a Neanderthal (more or less). Other 80s/90s action stars: Kurt Russel (Soldier, Executive Decision, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Backdraft, Escape from New York, Escape from LA) Chuck Norris (pretty much anything he's ever done) Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Mission: Impossible movies, Taps) Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon movies, Mad Max movies, The Bounty, Ransom, Conspiracy Theory, The Patriot, We Were Soldiers) Harrison Ford (Witness, Frantic, Patriot Games, The Fugitive, Air Force One) Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry movies, Firefox, Pale Rider, Heartbreak Ridge, Tightrope, Unforgiven, In the Line of Fire, Absolute Power, A Perfect World) Laim Neeson (Darkman, Rob Roy, Micheal Collins) There's also Superman and Superman II. Superman III and IV aren't really worth the time unless you're in the mood for a really bad movie. And if you want to delve back into the 1960s/70s, Bruce Lee movies.
10:30 Thanks for acknowledge the stuntman for that daring rope swing! That stuntman deserves so much credit for how bad that Tarzan swing had to hurt. I want to become a stuntman and that swing scares me. It happened so fast and he swung from so high up.
Seagal in the 80s and 90s? Yes, especially Under Siege, Nico, Hard To Kill… Everything since 2000? Good. God. No! Unless you want to laugh at him sitting in a chair for an entire movie, and the only time he’s on his feet he is gasping for breath after 5 steps 😂
I'm not sure if I've seen it in your reactions but 'Escape from New York' came out in 81. It's another collab between Kurt Russell and John Carpenter. Running Man is another under appreciated movie from Arnold back in the day and Red Dawn is a great brat pack movie from the 80's staring Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey.
It's not that you get sucked up into the blades of a helicopter, It's because the blades can dip below 6 ft when rotating. Because the blades are still creating downward force, they rise and dip at certain points in the rotation.
Oh I grew up with this classic! This was a favorite for me, one of my brothers, and our best friend. We were so excited to show our mothers the fight scene at the motel. But we were too young at the time to realize that there was an innapropriate pair of large breasts momentarily on display.
Love hearing the "check your phone" idea. Yeah, we didn't have a big cellphone system in the 1980s. So yeah, we used phone books and paper maps to get around. Cellphones began taking hold in the mid-1990s.
"Ok, audience, how do you stand on the thing where parents kiss their kids on the lips?" Only if they're Italian. Otherwise it's weird. Italians are already weirdly super huggy/kissy, so it's normal for them. Alyssa Milano definitely passes the Italian check, but Arnie is a huge fail on the Italian test and makes it pretty weird. Lol.
This was an unexpected treat. One of my all time favorite Arnold movies. If I could have picked the reactors to watch this movie with, you guys would be it. Ever since that great one liner in The Sixth Sense, I've been hooked on your sense of humor. I was looking forward with great anticipation to the final one-liner, and you didn't disappoint. Thank you.
Though Van Damme improved significantly as an actor in his later years, some of his best movies were with bad acting (mostly his) and great cheesy 80s / 90s action film quality. Some fun movies to watch react to are Bloodsport Timecop Kickboxer (with the funny dance scene) Cyborg Hard Target Double Impact Lionheart Nowhere to Run Sudden Death and The Quest or JCVD for some great acting. Also for high quality action, not Van Damme but Harrison Ford in "The Fugitive".
I'll always love the car chase scene in this movie just for how they crash full speed into a post, only for them both to legitimately just be fine like nothing happened in the very next frame. It's so ridiculous and so 80s that I can't help but laugh in appreciation.
This is hands down my favorite action movie from when I was a kid. I was about 6 or 7 the first time I saw it and I subsequently wore down my dads copy that he had on VHS.
Classic 80's action flick..... Glad you both enjoyed reacting to it. Hopefully, you'll venture deeper into the fun-filled genre (The Running Man, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Time Cop, Under Seige, Delta Force, Lone Wolf McQuade, etc.).
Simone is 100% correct that you should crouch when exiting/entering a helicopter. Every safety briefing I ever had prior to riding in a helicopter advised everyone to crouch when entering/exiting the helicopter. There's a wide variety of factors that can cause helicopter bladed to wobble. Standing completely upright is just tempting fate. If the worst happens, you won't get a second chance. I don't know what the stats are but we were told that hundreds of G.I.'s have been killed in such helicopter accidents.
My cousin gave me that poster when I was 12 and I thought it was the absolute coolest thing in the world. One of my favourite Arnold movies for sure . ☺️
I bought an area rug from Ikea a few years back. Carried it out over my shoulder, harnessing my inner Commando and feeling like a badass. It was red and pretty.
The first time I saw Rae Dawn Chong was in the movie Quest For Fire. She was memorable even then. Commando was the first movie I saw her in where she had actual words to say.
“Remember sully when I promised to kill you last?”
“That’s right matrix you did!”
“I lied….”

=)
Fake tree in comando
For me, this is the epitome of the outrageous 80s action movie. The only thing that's missing is Arnold taking a handful of bullets and throwing them at a group of enemies and killing them.
For that we have UHF
Didn't that happen in Hot Shots Part Deux? good laugh that movie 😂
I see you found the deleted scene...
I love Last Action Hero
I'd add Running Man to your list - I went off the film after reading the book, but it is a classic Arnie 80s action film that most of his fans love
@@CaptLoquaLacon Yes! Running Man is a great movie and I think anyone taking an Arnold **I'm gonna let spell check sort this out** Schwarzenegger (I knew it wouldn't fail me) journey needs to watch Running Man. This is required viewing or some pretentious hipster is gonna mock you at a coffee shop
Beverley Hills Cop, yes and don't forget Lethal Weapon.
I agree Beverly hills cop 1&2 his funny like hell
That scene from Demolition Man with the little girl and the news reporter is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
The best example of "Arnie physics" ie; he can rip through, lift, kill, or survive basically anything.
This movie really started the Arnie-as-quipster that continued through several of his action movies (i.e. Running Man). My favorite here is his exchange with Sully and with Cindy immediately afterwards. "I let him go".
I recommend Jean Claude Van Damme in "Bloodsport" and "Time Cop". Those are his best movies, IMO.
yeah I was thinking Jean Claude might be the next 80s-90s action actor to check out.
You think time cop is 1 of his best? Omg wtf lol... terrible
I love time cop
and also Hard Target! It had the Mummy and Blair from the Thing (outrageous accent!)
Best "Van Damme movie": "Bloodsport"
Best action movie starring Van Damme: "Hard Target"
Solid, slick Euro-thriller: "Maximum Risk"
Weirdly entertaining/so-bad-it's-good: "Knockoff" "Double Team" "No Retreat/No Surrender"
Mediocre rehashes of Bloodsport: "Kickboxer" "The Quest" (They don't suck, but they're basically just more Bloodsport)
Disappointing: "Universal Soldier" "Double Impact" (Not even "so bad it's good" they're just kind of boring.)
Has a few fans that will stan for them: "Lionheart" "Timecop" "Sudden Death"
At least there's Raul Julia: "Street Fighter"
Kinda worthless: "Cyborg" "Death Warrant" "Nowhere to Run"
I love Simone drooling over Arnie in his speedo. So cute.
Two fun flicks with the actor that played Sully: “The Warriors,” and “Dreamscape.” Rae Dawn Chong is in another movie “The Principle.” Some other often overlooked Arnie flicks are: “Raw Deal,” “Eraser,” and “Red Heat.”
Eraser was a pretty good movie.
Don’t forget “Collateral Damage”.
Red Heat, Kindergarten Cop, Total Recall, Terminator
Jamie Landis And don't forget "The Crow" (1994).
The movie "Dreamscape" is the Father of "Inception", I love it when I was a child.
Best reaction ever. Classic 80's movie, great comments and just hilarious.
If you want Bruce Willis, action and one liners, try The Last Boy Scout. Not sure how well it's aged but i used to love it.
Agreed, it’s an awesome action flick.
3:50 "I feel like Jackson and Harris are not long for this world!"
Wow...that is so cool, Simone MUST be a Star Trek fan...she can identify the Red Shirts in other fictional universes! 💯💯😁😁
at least they had names. Not just "im gonna leave these two to protect you". Cue Guy from Galaxyquest screaming 'what's my last name?'.
The awkward Jean Claude Van Damme dance is from Kickboxer. It's a pretty good 80s action movie and I haven't seen any other react channels hit it either. Go for it!
The line at the end when he kills the bad guy is THE best Arnold one liner. Because it's so dumb and so funny at the same time. It cannot be topped.
Wasn't Commando supposed to be tongue in cheek? Or is that my millennial disposition assigning intentional humor to corny scenes? I've always taken this movie as a sort of satire on action movies, but still a great action movie at the same time lol
It's a Dad joke, which works in this movie.
"Up In Smoke" is where my money goes...
Definitely up in smoke awesome movie
The Brothers Corsican (or The Corsican Brothers) might have had rae dawn in it as well. I can't recommend the movie, yet I can't not recommend it either. It's weird
Always here for the Simone thirst, it's so entertaining. Please don't ever stop
Simone enjoying the opening, nobody predicted that! Enjoy Simone, enjoy. As for good action movies from the era, Highlander has to be mentioned with a lead you guys haven't explored yet. Honorary mention of The Rock, Desperados and Falling Down.
Simone has been more than upfront about her love of 80s muscle and darn it, it makes her all the more lovable for it.
Even if they weren't the best films, you never really faulted either of them for their performances cuz you know at least they gave it their all.
ohh, the first Highlander was fun. I wasn't big on the whole thing but I liked the first one.
@@Humstuck the first Highlander is the only one you'll ever need
Other actiony 80's actors to check out: Steven Segeal - "Under Siege" and Jean-Claude Van Damme - "Bloodsport"
Seconded. Two fantastic suggestions!
100%, Bloodsport first though.
Bloodsport is a MUST.
Just another vote for Bloodsport. You will not regret it!
In a way Commando has always reminded me of Sergio Leone's western My Name is Nobody. They are both intentionally comedic affectionate parodies of their own genres while simultaneously succeeding as pureblooded genre movies. It's a rare feat.
I love Nobody so, so much
A reference to my name is nobody great to see it would be great if someone would do a reaction to that.
Yes, Arnold is super human in this one. I love when a grenade goes off by him and just says, "Arghhh!"
"I feel like Jackson and Harris are not long for this world" - I laughed so hard
I don’t think it was weird at all. If people think something is weird about it then that’s on them
@@katrinaleebaldwin4660 Was or still is? Kiss your kids on the lips at high school & see how that goes for them. Better yet kiss them on the lips in front of their s/o as an adult as a social experiment on the barometer of weird. If people think something isn't weird about it then that's on them!
We have a 7 yr old girl and 5 yr old boy. Not weird at all. Quick pecks on the lips when tucking in for the night or when I leave for work in the morning. Now obviously in a few years it's just not the same. They are getting older and you don't want to embarrass them lol.
Air Force One starring Harrison Ford is one of my all time favorite 90s action movies. Also Harrison Ford in general has so many good movies.
George, you edited out my favourite line, when Cindy asks, shortly after Matrix drops Sully off a cliff, "What happened to Sully?" Arnold "I let him go." Genius.
That woman is Rae Dawn Chong
Daughter of famous actor, comedian, and musician Tommy Chong
She is also the person who discovered Chris Pratt, when he was a waiter in a restaurant in Hawaii.
7:47
Blade 3 has child badass line too and the child says it with the most chill emotionless face it's really brilliantly delivered her line.
Water world has a kid line to but it's just alright and the line is actually a long monologue
The more reaction videos I watch, the older I feel. ;) I remember watching this in my teens and thinking it was the greatest thing ever. It is.
One of my favorite continuity mistakes in a movie, notice when Arnie flips the car from it's side the earlier damage is gone when they drive off. Edit: They noticed!
Love how much you two enjoyed this movie for all the right reasons. One of my favorites of all time. So over the top, but yet still so great.
The Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis is one that I really see you guys enjoying!
Commando is so great, I was excited for this one!
There's a story about how when Arnold macheted off the guys arm he wanted to hang onto it and beat the next guy with it.
Also Point Break (1991) with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
My favorite part of this movie was how the ammo belt kept getting longer, then shorter, then longer again. Continuity didn’t exist in the 80s.
Steven Seagal's early films, especially "Hard to Kill", "Marked for Death", and "Out for Justice" are pretty fun 80s action
For Van Damme, go with Bloodsport. For more Willis, go with The Last Boy Scout.
BLOODSPORT!!!!
Hard target for van damme.
@@mattdamon9326 "METT DEY-MUN!" :)
Dont forget Turner and Hooch
That continued on to the 90s w/ the likes of Bad Boys & Rush Hour.
@@christopheratkins6640 Ha! And you might as well throw K-9 Cop in there, as well.
I feel like there is a constant battle between George’s video thumbnails, and Simone’s opener quotes, and no matter who loses, we all win.
I liked at the end you referenced JCVD. If you want to see him at his best, check out Bloodsport. It's even based on a true story!
Bloodsport is one I've always liked.
Based on a true story is a bit of a stretch, but the movie is still great.
The lethal weapon series is really the class of 80’s action genre.
Communist leaders during the Cold war were kissing each other on the lips. :P
@@riveraharper8166 - And Jimmy Carter.
I also love they reversed the electrocution trope, IT MADE HIM STRONGER!
While we're on classic manly action movies, I can only recommend the Director's Cut of Payback (1999) with Mel Gibson, which also has the (in my mind) greatest Lucy Liu appearance ever!
"I still have a couple of minutes.'
"So boil an egg."
Also, maybe an underrated 90s action star, but not the muscle bound variety :
Antonio Banderas
Mask of Zorro (Top 10 favorite action films)
Desperado / Once Upon a Time in Mexico
The 13th Warrior
Assassins (With Stallone)
Worth a mini deep dive into his work!
@@ThreadBomb Oh yeah, and I love Interview with a Vampire as well.
Love over blown 80’s action. It’s just fun, and there’ll never be another Arnold!
After they see a few Van Damme movies, check out the series Jean-Claude Van Johnson
Other 80s/90s action stars -
Eddie Murphy - The Beverly Hills Cop movies are comedy/action but I'd only bother with the first and second movies.
Liam Neeson - Next of Kin which I mentioned above, Darkman
Micky Rourke - Year of the Dragon (I've never seen this one), Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, The Pope of Greenwich Village (never seen it), Johnny Handsome (probably my favorite of his, also has Morgan Freeman).
Keanu Reeves - Point Break (mentioned above), Speed, The Matrix
Rutger Hauer - Blind Fury, The Blood of Heroes, Split Second, and of course Blade Runner
Peter Weller - The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Robocop, Robocop 2,
Yes, the Christian Slater movies for sure. Pump Up the Volume and Gleaming the Cube were my jams back in the day.
Arnold at his most pun-tactic, my favourite is his response to “any carry on luggage?”. Just him😂
One action movie I really enjoy is Action Jackson starring Carl Weathers.
10:30 The stuntman who doubled Arnie for the swing across the mall was the same man who doubled Cybill Shepherd for the rooftop ladder gag in Moonlighting; Bob Yerkes.
You did Stallone, but now you need to do Carl Weathers’ “Action Jackson”
Rae Dawn Chong also starred in Quest for Fire - which also stars Ron Perlman. She plays a Cro Magnon, Perlman plays a Neanderthal (more or less).
Other 80s/90s action stars:
Kurt Russel (Soldier, Executive Decision, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Backdraft, Escape from New York, Escape from LA)
Chuck Norris (pretty much anything he's ever done)
Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Mission: Impossible movies, Taps)
Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon movies, Mad Max movies, The Bounty, Ransom, Conspiracy Theory, The Patriot, We Were Soldiers)
Harrison Ford (Witness, Frantic, Patriot Games, The Fugitive, Air Force One)
Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry movies, Firefox, Pale Rider, Heartbreak Ridge, Tightrope, Unforgiven, In the Line of Fire, Absolute Power, A Perfect World)
Laim Neeson (Darkman, Rob Roy, Micheal Collins)
There's also Superman and Superman II. Superman III and IV aren't really worth the time unless you're in the mood for a really bad movie.
And if you want to delve back into the 1960s/70s, Bruce Lee movies.
The female lead is Tommy Chong's daughter.
10:30 Thanks for acknowledge the stuntman for that daring rope swing! That stuntman deserves so much credit for how bad that Tarzan swing had to hurt. I want to become a stuntman and that swing scares me. It happened so fast and he swung from so high up.
The splits is Van Damme's signature thing in his movies. Kickboxer is good, as is Bloodsport.
Hard Target is his best film IMO.
I don't think this reaction can beat the thumbnail. Perfection. 👏👏👏👏👏
As far as 80's action stars go you could try Jean Claude Van Damme or Steven Seagal, their early films were quite good.
Arnold's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day
Monty Python FTW
Time Cop and Universal Soldier both have JCVD moments that Simone would enjoy.
Fun fact: None of those weapons were/are illegal. They were just stored for the night. The only iffy ones would be the rocket launcher and grenades.
"Ok, audience, how do you stand on the thing where parents kiss their kids on the lips?"
Only if they're Italian. Otherwise it's weird. Italians are already weirdly super huggy/kissy, so it's normal for them. Alyssa Milano definitely passes the Italian check, but Arnie is a huge fail on the Italian test and makes it pretty weird. Lol.
I just think it's weird in general.
Some fun movies to watch react to are
Bloodsport
Timecop
Kickboxer (with the funny dance scene)
Cyborg
Hard Target
Double Impact
Lionheart
Nowhere to Run
Sudden Death
and The Quest
or
JCVD for some great acting.
Also for high quality action, not Van Damme but Harrison Ford in "The Fugitive".
If going for Van Damme stuff, you must mention the greatest film of all times. Street Fighter.
I'll always love the car chase scene in this movie just for how they crash full speed into a post, only for them both to legitimately just be fine like nothing happened in the very next frame. It's so ridiculous and so 80s that I can't help but laugh in appreciation.
Another great pick would be Face / Off with Cage and Travolta directed by John Woo.
It is absolutely bonkers crazy in the best possible way.
The way people react to this movie, you'd think no one else has ever thrown circular saw blades like frisbees.
A Bruce Willis action movie I feel is pretty underrated is Tears of the Sun.
Honestly One if my Fav Arnold Movies back in the Day
Simone is 100% correct that you should crouch when exiting/entering a helicopter.
OMG that Thumbnail pic ! I can't ! 🤣🤣🤣 George's look on the face, hilarious !!
