  • A multi-actor reading of Go Ahead, Secret Sevenl by Enid Blyton part of the Secret 7 series.
It was dramatised by Edward Phillips. I had this tape as a child and loved this telling of the story. It is abridged with a 42 minute running time, but maintains the tension and excitement without over-simplifying. These shorter dramatizations are ideal for 'reading' in a single sitting and are great for bedtime or car journeys especially with younger kids. Recorded with a multi-voice cast by Rainbow books (and later released by Tempo).
George gets in trouble and is forced to resign from the Secret Seven. In the meantime some mysterious happenings have lead the rest of the Seven on the search for some missing pedigree dogs. Without George, it is left to Scamper, the golden spaniel, to save the other members of the club when they encounter danger.
This is shared from a recording of a cassette tape, so lots of old-fashioned tape noises and hiss, but still very listenable and an enjoyable telling for childhood nostalgia or for a new generation of listeners that can make pictures in the mind.

I'm 40 now but listened to this and the other Rainbow Enid Blyton tapes every night as a child. I've been reading "Go Ahead Secret Seven" to my son this week and found I was reading lines in a certain way because, despite not hearing this for 30 years, it's imprinted on my brain.

He's not credited on the inlay card or tape. There was someone else looking for for this before but didn't I hear if they found out. A lot of the voice actors on this series seem to be associated with the Archers, but I don't know. It's a great voice though.

I'm almost certain the narrator here is Sherlock Holmes in Hound of the Baskervilles. And that actor is David Buck. forums.doyouremember.co.uk/forum/culture/books-comics-and-magazines/14124-the-voices-in-the-pickwick-tell-a-tale-series#post199551

@@thescribble I know this is an ancient comment but I listened to David Buck as Watson in Sherlock Holmes (and as Gimli in the animated Lord of the Rings). I had always thought it might be Michael Hordern but you're right, it could be David Buck.
