For me, I see Bowser as a Anti-Hero. He is not perfect. (Kidnapping isn't a good idea just to find a Mama for your child after all), but he's doing everything he can to protect himself, his child, and the other koopalings. I admire him for that.
Here's another thing to mention about Bowser's kingdoms. Compared to the Mushroom Kingdom, the multiple kingdoms he's had were absolutely amazing! In Super Mario 3D world, Bowser literally made an entire amusement park for not only the Mario brothers, but also his people. Another example would be in Super Mario odyssey, where his base is based off of beautiful Japanese or Chinese architecture. It's sad to see an underdeveloped character like bowser get hate not only by Mario and his friends, but also many fans of the Mario franchise.

He is still a villain but not completely a villain at the same time. He is a caring Dad and has helped Mario and Luigi before in a select amount of games. However, he has still done enough evil deeds to not make him a complete anti-hero unlike Meta Knight and King Dedede.
Bowser is kind of neutral he is a caring Dad and has helped Mario and Luigi on a couple of occasions. His alternate self Paper Bowser has been neutral sometimes as well. So he could be an anti-hero like Meta Knight and King Dedede, but at the same time, he has done some despicable deeds, especially in Odyssey. Then again, I recall Ganondorf, King K. Rool, Ridley, Wolf, Sephiroth, and Kazuya doing worse stuff. These guys listed above either have taken out many people or in K. Rool's case stole bannana's for profit.
My theory is that Bowser kidnaps Peach over and over again so Bowser Jr. can have a mother figure. The strongest evidence I have of this is when Bowser Jr. says he knows Peach is not his real mother. This implies that Bowser made his son believe that Peach was his biological mother, probably so he didn't feel lonely, much like Bowser did when he was young, since Kamek raised him. And he loves Bowser Jr., so he's willing to do anything to make him happy, such as giving him a mother. Sort of a bummer for Peach, but it's not like she's ever mistreated, on the contrary! Some of Bowser's actions just melt my heart. He was going to set a time suspension for Bowser Jr's games during the Parental Controls video, but he decided not to, as he didn't want to hurt his child's feelings just like that. He also makes sure Bowser Jr doesn't do things he isn't supposed to (from his context), he adopted 7 kids, which takes a lot of dedication, and he has one of the biggest fan followings despite his actions. Just because Bowser temporarily aligns himself with the heroes to fight a greater evil, it does not take away his villain status. Situations like this happen all the time especially in the comic books. Sometimes Magneto would help the X-Men fight Apocalypse just because Apocalypse is a lot more dangerous to the world in general. Once the greater evil is dispatched, the villain goes right back to their evil ways.

He is still a villain but not completely a villain at the same time. He is a caring Dad and has helped Mario and Luigi before in a select amount of games. However, he has still done enough evil deeds to not make him a complete anti-hero unlike Meta Knight and King Dedede.

Bowser is kind of neutral he is a caring Dad and has helped Mario and Luigi on a couple of occasions. His alternate self Paper Bowser has been neutral sometimes as well. So he could be an anti-hero like Meta Knight and King Dedede, but at the same time, he has done some despicable deeds, especially in Odyssey. Then again, I recall Ganondorf, King K. Rool, Ridley, Wolf, Sephiroth, and Kazuya doing worse stuff. These guys listed above either have taken out many people or in K. Rool's case stole bannana's for profit.
My theory is that Bowser kidnaps Peach over and over again so Bowser Jr. can have a mother figure.
The strongest evidence I have of this is when Bowser Jr. says he knows Peach is not his real mother. This implies that Bowser made his son believe that Peach was his biological mother, probably so he didn't feel lonely, much like Bowser did when he was young, since Kamek raised him.
And he loves Bowser Jr., so he's willing to do anything to make him happy, such as giving him a mother. Sort of a bummer for Peach, but it's not like she's ever mistreated, on the contrary!
Now if Mario could just sit his fat Italian ass down and let Bowser give his kids the happy family he never had..

+Oli414 So Mario is controlled by an AI, 1-2 question blocks are spawned randomly (why should you place them?). but the trick is, your minions have to be able to walk throught Castle as well, so you can not place random stuff. you have to find a Balance between a Castle their you manage your minions and try to make it hard enough to Keep Mario away. Some of Bowser's actions just melt my heart.
He was going to set a time suspension for Bowser Jr's games during the Parental Controls video, but he decided not to, as he didn't want to hurt his child's feelings just like that.
He also makes sure Bowser Jr doesn't do things he isn't supposed to (from his context), he adopted 7 kids, which takes a lot of dedication, and he has one of the biggest fan followings despite his actions.
Also, like Nico said, he probably just wants attention, as he made the traps so easy for Mario.
And he wants Peach as his queen because he wants a mother for his children and a romantic/sexual companion for himself.

Just because Bowser temporarily aligns himself with the heroes to fight a greater evil, it does not take away his villain status. Situations like this happen all the time especially in the comic books. Sometimes Magneto would help the X-Men fight Apocalypse just because Apocalypse is a lot more dangerous to the world in general. Once the greater evil is dispatched, the villain goes right back to their evil ways.
Namely, the unions with the enemy does not make him a non-villain.

The only reason why Bowser did join forces with Mario is that both the mushroom kingdom, and the Koopa kingdom were in danger. And villains sometimes put their differences with the hero aside to deal with a much stronger foe. In fact, Bowser should've have just be nice to the mushroom kingdom instead of invading it, which might be why Mario and his friends don't invite Bowser to the party, because Bowser kept invading the kingdom.
