I promoted my videos in google ads and initially gained thousands of subscribers. However, about a month later, I started losing subscribers, and RUclips penalized my channel. This led to a significant drop in views as well. I think promoting my videos might not have been a good idea because the subscribers gained were likely not well-targeted or engaged. This experience has made me reconsider the effectiveness of paid promotions.
I spent £300 on ads last month, got 15k subscribers. Month after the ad ended, I lost 200 subscribers and my views and hours watched was much lower than prior. Sad… channel is dead. :(

I will agree with the Reddit one. I use it to promote primarily and its BRUTAL. Most of the communities are extremely picky and judgemental, and you’ll get downvoted to hell just for sharing your video. Meanwhile the entire sub is filled with hot garbage getting upvotes. Thanks for all this help though! Definitely going to try some of these out!
I recently started my ambience/lofi channel (this one) and honestly I don’t regret it. A lot of people give up after the first few videos. I’m going to stay consistent no matter what! The way I see it, every view I get is exciting and will only make me want to get better at this. If someone out there is indecisive on whether you should make a channel, just do it. I made two videos that went big (for my size) and it motivated me so i kept making good content or at least with effort only to see my views drop to the ground the more I posted. The problem I found with Gab is that the founder has been known to post quite a bit of antisemitic content, and a large percentage of white supremacists also have accounts on that platform. Once some of the people on Gab discovered that I'm Jewish, I was bombarded with hate posts.
