Promote your good but most boring long form video and test if that attracts subscription. Watch for average watch time during promotion. The subscribers you get from that would be the ones who will help your channel health in long run. After reviewing the subscribers who enabled notification %, I stopped all my shorts promo since that metrics started dropping since my new promotion. Also, none of the promo subscribers show up in Recent Subscribers list. It certainly tells you something!
If you mean the advertising budget, no, you have to pay. However, I’ve found from the promotions I’ve run, a number of them have over-delivered. This means you get a credit back in your Google Ads account for the amount that was spent beyond your allocated budget.
Views and subscribers will be included if your video and channel totals. However, RUclips says they’re not counted for monetization, but someone said they found they were anyway. I can’t confirm this though because my channel was already monetized.
@@LovesData I couldn't see why they wouldn't count towards monetization. When you create your promotion, RUclips doesn't state anywhere that these doesn't count towards monetization of your channel. Also when you look under your "Earn" tabs, you can see that the subs you have gain from promoting your video is stated there. I have googled around, and I cannot see that this should not be the case, that subs & views via promotion does not count towards monetization
I agree. However, they do say it in this support article: support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851?hl=en under ‘What do “valid public watch hours” and "valid public Shorts views" mean?’ - it says ad campaigns don’t count towards being in the RUclips Partner Program.
@@LovesData thanks for the clarification. I can see that only counts on watch hours, so I would assume that any sub you gain from your promotion, is a valid sub and would count towards the 1000 threshold. I couldn't find anything under that link you send. In this case, it would make sense to promote videos that asking your viewers to look at other videos you can done, to harvest those watch hours :)
This is such a great topic of discussion however it leaves me with more questions. 🤔 so how does YT determine and able to split subs and views from promotion versus subs and views organically that can count towards monetization? 😮 there has for to be a mix because so many run ads on YT 🤷🏽♀️ But yet they are monetized. 🥸 perhaps there has to be promotion done off of YT/Google.
If you're getting into RUclips to make money from advertising dollars on RUclips - you completely have the wrong business model. RUclips videos are just free advertising for your business, and the money the YT gives you is just the icing on the money cake. Affiliate marketing, online courses, consulting, merch, and memberships should be where you're focusing your energies to make money. Paying to promote your videos isn't about getting more RUclips advertising dollars, it's about exposure for your "business" so that people can purchase you services and products. Most successful business tap into the many other revenue streams to make money. RUclips is just a way to build a relationship and promote your business. All the best, Cheers Rick
Oh no.. i got no business to sell.. I make videos of things I do in real life as projects of my own. What you are saying is youtube videos are just free ads for business.. so where do I stand I dont get it.. is everything always about business in life ?
@@hashtagtnt There is no one size fits all, and it depends entirely on the product. Assuming the OP's username is what they do for a living, it makes sense for them that they would use RUclips as a vessel to connect with customers. Make a load of videos related to driving exams and driving techniques. Connect with your audience on that level, and then offer various driving tutoring packages to your market. In my case, I write and narrate short stories for people to listen to before bed at night in order to help them sleep, so I don't have anything "physical" to offer, such as a car or physical lessons. So my needs are entirely different to the OPs. Their post made a number of assumptions that I disagree with. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with merely uploading videos that document your experiences.
The reason why everyone has had a loss in viewership, and a lot of content creators are leaving, is because RUclips now wants you to buy viewership and platform space. I said this same thing in the Think Media live chat, and they kicked me out and scolded me for it, so what does that tell you?
They want you to do all the work, invest all the time, and pay on top of everything a minimum of $150, to get views, so you can then maybe, hopefuly, luckily, monetize, so they can keep 45% of the profit...Sounds like good business.
@@RandomVideoCircus as a youngster I was in a band. Common theme among artists and youtubers psychology, is the need to be exposed. We'd go to a club to ask about performing there, and the first thing they'd ask was: how many people are you bringing? Similar to RUclips: Do all the witing, recording, rehearsing, come to the venue and guarantee me sales, so I can give you a cut.....
You can try targeting a lower CPM cost countries. US, Canada and UK are pretty expensive to run ads on. Try other countries that aren't as rich, and set the language to English. The predicted views should go up.
🤔Interesting, you said you are promoting a video that didn't do very well on its own. My theory is you should promote the best performing video you have, because in the YT game, the more your video goes up in quality in a linear fashion, the rewards (views, subs) go up exponentially.
One thing I find, and I wonder if you've done a video on it, is how poor the watch time is on a lot of promoted videos. My typical watch time on a video is about 2:30 (probably when YT does the midroll ad. My typical view time for promoted content is about 30 seconds. Since YT ranks channels based on interaction, watch time, etc., I'm curious about the long-term impact of this on discoverability. It seems like this leads to a cycle of needing to promote videos to get traffic, as the watch time drops the value of the video to the YT algorythm.
Or, just for the heck of it, promote a short video of 1 minute to make sure you don't lose retention rates. Click through is bound to be low anyway, but at least your retention won't be as bad as with longer videos.
@@michaelvedal This is actually a great idea and then make sure to include the long form video in the related video link. I'm going to try this! Thank you!
RUclips Promotions has helped my channel immensely. Yes the average few time has dramatically decreased to a mere a few seconds however, since I featured product placements and sponsorships, it is the subscriber account and view count which my clients look at. These have all increased significantly and guide much more business.
@@cancel5414 Most definitely. I'm sure that RUclips is not suggesting my videos so much because of the short view count. But for me, the subs are much more important at the moment.
I think most people are negative on the subject. Just create good content and have faith that your promotion would go well. Who cares about retention? Youre paying for views and subscribers right? You will lose subscribers if you don’t keep posting. Most often original content (3 videos every 90 days for starters) and forget about bots and being afraid that your numbers will tank: just create good content and post!
Hi mate, quick question. Since you started using the Promotions feature has it affected the natural organic growth of your channel? I've heard reports that once you use the Promotions feature RUclips will slow down your organic growth so you keep using and paying for promotions?
Me too, I think that is what happening now to me. I promoted so many and I kept doing it but i think it doesn't feel right. Everytime I promote my videos i get at least 1k views with 200 subscribers then 40 to 309 likes but do you think it's ok?
I hope so. I've only got 112 subs at the moment and I've been getting a lot of hate comments on my videos and channel. I know it's normal, but it gets tough sometimes... 😔
I grow my own channels through hard work and many hours of training and practice. I start a channel days ago and im almost at 300 subs and almost 100 thousand views. I have another that has 64,000 subs 1 year worth of work and another 650,000 2 years worth of work. If you ask me ill tell you to never stop posting and never stop trying to make your next video better than your last also thumbnail and watch time is the biggest builder block for all successful channel
Another question I have - I am not sure if you've seen this issue or not. When I do RUclips Promotions, they only seem to run overnight (North America's night-time that is). My audience in my testing has been English-speakers in US and Canada. But the promos only seem to be active overnight like between midnight and (say) 4am, my time. I'll run a promo for 7 days and it only seems to be active during those hours every night - never during the daytime. Any ideas on how or why RUclips decides WHEN the promo will run time-of-day wise? It seems like I might have better results if the promo ran during the day (North America time). Thanks again!
if memory serves me correctly, it has something to do with when the advertisers want the ads to run. so depending on which country your existing subscribers are from, would determine what time of the day the advertisers want to target those specifically. for example if you're in the usa, and the bulk of your subscribers sit in india, your promotion won't run during your day-time. it will be midnight or something for you, and daytime for india. hope this makes sense 🙂
I started my 'Mr Sleepy' channel 3 days ago. Very early days, with 13 subscribers thus far. But hey, Rome wasn't built in a day! I'm just glad I absolutely love doing what I do on the channel. With the right continuous regular content and optimization, I am hopeful I should at least build a bit of a cult following. And no, I'm not a cult! My area is helping people sleep more soundly!
When I do this and chose the budget $125 for example, to run april 22 till may 6th, it shows me a message: you will be charged every 1st of the month! I just want to spend $125 now and not every 1st of the month. Do you know if they will just stop and not deduct another $125 after May 6th? Thank you!
I appreciate your video. My channel had a respectable amount of viewers and subscribers in the past. However, when I promoted a single video on You Tube, the channel completely stopped moving (it was shadow banned), which meant that the number of subscribers and views had completely decreased. Any suggestions on how I might return it to normal?
Sounds like we are all experiencing the same kind of results. Its GREAT, but then... I was hoping this video explained the difference between the Engagement and the Views promotion types. I have actually considered starting all over with a new channel.
I'm fairly new here and have been using RUclips promotions. I understand that these views are counted if the duration is over 30 seconds, but do they count towards monetization too? I meant if RUclips pays for those views too.
I am new to the RUclips game, and watching your videos has encouraged me more. I am into motivational content. It's not easy to get the subscribers and the watch hours. I am about 13 subscribers. But I am encouraged more after watching your videos.
In my music channel, I got 66k views for free and till this day, I don't know how that happened and the rest of my videos are back to no views. Sometimes I wonder how does RUclips work and its hard getting views now.
I've just paid to promote a music video, using the native youtube promotion, and the views are indeed growing fast. But it got me almost no likes and no comments. And the new subscribers, judging by the name of those profiles, don't feel like they would really subscribe to the channel. Doesn't this feel a little weird? I mean, isn't there a scheme kind of thing that can be going on behind the scenes?
Thank you so much for doing your video and showing us what can help our channel grow by using google ads, but since I'm not making any money from RUclips yet I don't have the money to pay for advertising. I will keep grinding to get more viewers.
I've been teetering on the fence of whether I should promote a video or not. I just started a month ago, and while I've seen some minor growth in subscribers, the view count ranges between 3 up to **Maybe** 30 views. My content is by far not the quality you get from the big boys in the genre I'm making content for, but man I'm trying.
Great walk-through! I think something I’d like to see from RUclips are more Targeting options besides locations-like topics & interests. But great tutorial nonetheless! 🙌🏾
I thought about promoting at Least 1 of my RUclips channels, before but 1 thing is though, if itis a whole video, then perhaps nobody might want to watch more than 1 minute, if itis just as a Google advert.
Based on your last experiment, just plop down $300k and voila you could have over 1 million subscribers in no time. Thanks for sharing. Gave me a lot to think about.
It can only be worth the cost if those new viewers and subscribers stick around to watch your other videos or new videos. The fact that a guy who "Loves Data" doesn't even address that is very telling.
Ha! I ran the promotion for my channel and I shared the results. I found it drove a decent number of views and subscribers, especially compared to other options (like third-party advertising partners and video campaigns in Google Ads, which I’ve also run). I also understand it’s not a fit for every channel especially because it doesn’t provide detailed reporting, so if you don’t think it’s a fit for your channel, don’t use it.
I promoted my videos and initially gained thousands of subscribers. However, about a month later, I started losing subscribers, and RUclips penalized my channel. This led to a significant drop in views as well. I think promoting my videos might not have been a good idea because the subscribers gained were likely not well-targeted or engaged. This experience has made me reconsider the effectiveness of paid promotions.😢

The subscribers count, but the watch time does not count. That is why you have to run you promotional videos unlisted and link a published video on the end screen to get more views.
Your speech is slow enough to understand. Sometimes we don't need to rush to expain everything. Slow speed is somehome very effective and catchy. Thanks for the sharing. 🙏
Great channel! Very helpful to a newbee like me! Don't know if you can answer this question, but maybe a good start. I have an education video and ran a promotion (US and UK only). I found immediately that the UK is a massive view source over US for college age students and when I break it down into cities, there is a good range of city locations. However, Cambridge and Oxford are curiously missing from the list. When I run those specific cities on Instagram, I see my view count increase, but those cities still don't show up. Any hypothesis on this? Thank you so much!

I'm launching this channel in a few weeks, so I've been watching a few different videos on promotion - they seem to all be quite similar results. To be honest I don't think I'll use the promote tool, $181 for a couple of hundred subscribers seems a little steep. From what I gather, the best way to grow a new channel is to release a few videos at once, rather than just one. That's not something I thought about previously, but that's my aim now with my new channel. I'll release at least five videos at once and hopefully that will make new viewers stick around longer. Any other tips would be appreciated!

I have lost my option to promote my youtube videos and I am wondering why is that
Promote your good but most boring long form video and test if that attracts subscription.
"Subscribers and watch-time earned through a promotion do not contribute towards RUclips Partner Program eligibility."
That's correct
Unless they watch a different video afterwards
@@LovesData Marcus jones did a similar video with various tests, and mentioned that they were both counted, even though it sais otherwise

Is the money free?
If you mean the advertising budget, no, you have to pay. However, I’ve found from the promotions I’ve run, a number of them have over-delivered. This means you get a credit back in your Google Ads account for the amount that was spent beyond your allocated budget.
@lovesdata will these views be counted.
😮 there has for to be a mix because so many run ads on YT 🤷🏽♀️
But yet they are monetized.

Yeah🎉
Wow
They want you to do all the work, invest all the time, and pay on top of everything a minimum of $150, to get views, so you can then maybe, hopefuly, luckily, monetize, so they can keep 45% of the profit...Sounds like good business.
@@DidacticEditions Accurate! 👍👍
@@RandomVideoCircus as a youngster I was in a band. Common theme among artists and youtubers psychology, is the need to be exposed. We'd go to a club to ask about performing there, and the first thing they'd ask was: how many people are you bringing? Similar to RUclips: Do all the witing, recording, rehearsing, come to the venue and guarantee me sales, so I can give you a cut.....
youtube estimated 300-350 views for $100 bucks.
Thats a rip off. Thats not even 300-350 subscribers WTF
I think the same. :)
Did the short view count end up hurting your channel at all?
@@cancel5414 Most definitely. I'm sure that RUclips is not suggesting my videos so much because of the short view count. But for me, the subs are much more important at the moment.
Interesting topic and useful info... but, doing YT means struggling for years. Step by step. :)

Another question I have - I am not sure if you've seen this issue or not. When I do RUclips Promotions, they only seem to run overnight (North America's night-time that is). My audience in my testing has been English-speakers in US and Canada. But the promos only seem to be active overnight like between midnight and (say) 4am, my time. I'll run a promo for 7 days and it only seems to be active during those hours every night - never during the daytime. Any ideas on how or why RUclips decides WHEN the promo will run time-of-day wise? It seems like I might have better results if the promo ran during the day (North America time). Thanks again!
Exactly the same for me. I came here looking for answers.
You may get a better answer by looking at where the views and subs are coming from (geography etc)
Mine as well. It only runs overnight.
if memory serves me correctly, it has something to do with when the advertisers want the ads to run. so depending on which country your existing subscribers are from, would determine what time of the day the advertisers want to target those specifically. for example if you're in the usa, and the bulk of your subscribers sit in india, your promotion won't run during your day-time. it will be midnight or something for you, and daytime for india. hope this makes sense 🙂
@@Dotain5minutes thank you. That makes a lot of sense. Very helpful.

I've been using youtube promotions and it help increased my subscribers and views, but is it good though? Do I have to keep using youtube promotions 😔
Good video very informative
I'm fairly new here and have been using RUclips promotions. I understand that these views are counted if the duration is over 30 seconds, but do they count towards monetization too? I meant if RUclips pays for those views too.
i think a very small portion does, however everywhere it says it doesn't.

Hello sir

Thanks for this. I wish to get Subscribers too 🤝
It can only be worth the cost if those new viewers and subscribers stick around to watch your other videos or new videos.
In first promotion, mostly of your new subscribers and views was from India? (Because there lower CPM)?
Yes, the geographic targets you choose will be a factor when running promotions.
Yes . 😂 low

I want to try this but some YT said is not worth when you don't have a product.... I'm a photographer promoting my art, I don't sell anything yet.
I want to use my own pre roll ads to play in front of my own content. Is that possible? Thanks!
