To find a gem of dubbed anime at Blockbuster, and having to convince your parents it was just a cartoon because the cashier would let you rent it without a parent's permission. The level of game you had to pull was nuts but we did it, and we were grateful they let us rent it! And then rewinding the same scene over so much the VHS tape glitched out as a certain scene... Those were the days!
Won't lie, when I saw an edited clip of just the strip teasing, didn't expect them to have been hiding a scantily body suite under the dress and their long hair. Very clever of them.
You know what made this better than New Dominion, or any of the dozen iterations of GITS? The character designs were actually drawn and animated in Masamune Shirow's style.
That's the beauty of old school OVAs. They were all passion products, where the animators were free to dedicate as much of their limited budget to any specific scene that they wanted.

I don't know, the DVD i bought 20 years ago imported from UK had both. Immediately struck me that the dub studio didn't get the music license and replaced it wholesale, ALL OF IT. The replacements are pretty good though, they match the mood of the movie pretty well, though originals are a bit less repetitive, sometimes take a step back in just the right moments, and the animation and editing just matches them better.

Got the original on DVD in early 2001 at Suncoast Video with a "PlayStation 2 compatible" sticker right on the shrinkwrap. Hopefully one day when Ghost in the Shell has had a break, we'll see a return to this
The American adaptation has a different song and vibe for this sequence. It's more sublime and sexual in the original Japanese music while the American version is more up-tempo and animalistic. It makes sense to my ears but maybe not to yours. The Japanese one is like teasing and flirting. The American one is like a strip club. For your next lesson, look up "No sex in the champagne room."
That probably would have been the one that just moved there; the rest of the citizenry probably would have expected it already. The Tank Police division was more or less well known for its dearth of competence.

They all but butchered the American version. Some of the voice acting was decent, but the song they used to replace "Hey Boy..." Someone needed to be hit with one of Buaku's Bio-Balls for that shit...
I tried doing that dance in front of a bunch of cops hoping i would get away but instead they beat the sh*t out of me and dragged me to jail, the cat girls lied to me😢😅😂😂😂😂
