  • Installation of a wooden blind/shutter system for a deck. Step by step instructions for newbies who need a bit more help than the poor instructions you get with the product. I am not a professional builder and nothing in this video should be taken as advice as such. Also, always check with your city code before doing building projects to make sure you don't need a permit. Used a drill with a square bit, miter saw, table saw, deck stain, brushes, and the Pylex Deck Sunblind product (x3).

    That is SO SMART to have a sliding section!!! I've been brainstorming how to get some privacy for our raised deck from my neighbors without permanently losing our backyard view from inside the house and this might be it!

    Thank you for this great idea. I have a fire pit area just outside my patio. I want to add privacy for the patio without losing access to the fire pit. Your sliding barn door is just the ticket!! I'm going to give it a try. Thanks so much for sharing!

    I love this idea! I like that this could take place of a railing, without the barn door hinges of course.

      Interesting thought. I don’t know if that would fly for an inspection, but I like the idea.

      Maybe not on a really high deck though. You trip and stumble or a kid hits that really hard and a 10ft or higher drop would be scary. Now I want someone to test different forces and see if it is as stable as a rail.

    I just found out about this pylex sunblind kit. I love the idea of adding the sliding so you can still walk in and out of the area.

    • @CassieGrether
      @CassieGrether  11 месяцев назад

      It was an over the top way to put in a shade, but the look is what really sets it apart from like a pull down blind. I really liked the look of the wood, but I especially like that I can still see the yard through it while getting shaded from the direct sun. I am happy with their product so far.

    Thank you for making this video, this is the only one I’ve seen on RUclips that clearly shows how the system is installed.
    Have you figured out how to get the blinds moving from open to closed a bit more easily? Picked some up and I’m planning on installing soon.

    • @CassieGrether
      @CassieGrether  10 месяцев назад

      I’m glad someone could find it useful. Love your handle btw. I am a young genXer. Actually time is all it took. I assume things weren’t perfect and as the blinds have been moved around here and there, they are now loose enough to open and close with one hand. Probably a minimal alignment with the center screw I assume.

      I got mine from a store called Home Depot. But I did see similar products on Amazon. Don’t know if they are available in your area though. However, you can make something similar without the hardware. Look up plantation shutters. They work a bit differently but can be done if you can’t locate this hardware in your nation.

    The old owners of my house left 4 boxes of these and I had no idea how to install these as only one box had instructions and as you said, they're bad!! Thank you. How big of spaces did you use? My instructions say you need rivets?

    • @CassieGrether
      @CassieGrether  23 дня назад

      So my kit came with a metal strip about 1/2 inch wide by 6feet long? Maybe. It had holes down the strip to allow for a template for pre-drilling. The spacing between looks to be about 5 inches, but it is exactly the distance from one hole to the other on one of the brackets that connect each of the shutters together.
      Rivets seem strange unless that is what they are calling the brackets. Can you upload a photo?
