      @@arlekin1976 any athlete can break a world record at any official tournament, but an olympic is just too special. Not all athlete can compete there, even a world record holder.

      He cleared it by a mile with most of his body but then put his feet were slightly displaced and any higher he would have knocked it down.

      At 0:30 he barely skims his backside past the bar on the way down, and certainly would have taken down a higher bar. Yes, he could have cleared 2.4, but the bar would have needed to be a few inches forward.

    Unfortunate Javi the Great never cleared more than 2.34m in the Olympics. Nearly 30 years on now and he's still the only one to have ever cleared 8 feet.

    It is true that Charles Austin is the Olympic record holder, however the highest jump recorded was performed by Javier Sotomayor , 2, 45 meters . And on top of that he had jump more than 2,39 in more than one occasion.

      They are jumping about 1.85-1.95 max. Which is impressive, dont get me wrong, but these are 40-50 cm higher. Thats a lot for highjump

    2 things I thought of:
    1. If you were in your backyard with no mats or bar to jump over, then this would be learning how to backflip, side backflip or reverse flip? Something like that
    2. Imagine if this is how people jumped over fences

    When I was a kid back in the 60s, I would participate in track and field stuff, including hide jumping. When they changed the style of jumping, I had to ask, and I still ask: why would you jump like that? The Fosbury Flop Is so unnatural looking. The earlier forms of jumping seem more natural and easier to do!

    Everything with limits is just psychic barriers. If you max out on 1.60 etc. Put a small trampoline underneath it at same level and jump over 1.80 next training sessions, the brain will feel the momentum and later rely on the musclememory and think it's your natural ability.

    Partyka's jump is amazing, to bad the bar wasn't set for 2,46 😊 Wish someone could look at all the best jumps and somehow, with todays video measuring techniques get the "actual" highest jumps 😊

      The camera angle makes it look higher than it was. Look at the other replays and you'll see that while it was a fantastic jump, it wasn't what a lot of internet bullshit artsists claim it was.
