I don't know who the other lady is but her enjoying that story was pure gold.
It’s Oti Mabuse, a South African professional dancer who recently won Strictly Come Dancing with her celebrity partner.
@@fantastischfish oh, I thought I recognized that face! only, I know her sister Motsi, who happens to be very known in my country germany. they look very much alike.
ja weh her sister is a Judge on strictly here as well.
@@fantastischfish Thanks for the info. I was confused too, as i recognized seeing her, a while ago, on the show "Your Face Or Mine" from Comedy Central with Jimmy Carr and Katherine Ryan. So she is somewhat famous for actually doing something...ok cool.
@La Señora Tortuga NO! Also, Lupita "niongo"? You meant Lupita Nyong'o. Again, NO! Lupita is way more beautiful. Similar smile, maybe. But again, NO!
Her facial expressions as she's doing the voices make this entire clip.

Eh no, Alan’s story and the subsequent reaction makes the entire clip.
@Ron 3 Americans are often accused of being too sensitive, but it's just a hypocritical double standard. Goof on a Brit, Italian, German..etc. and you'll see similar crybabies.
Exactly! The thumbnail was the reason we clicked this video.
For me the end stole the spot light from Anna :)

It’s Oti Mabuse! Amazing dancer !!!
Black woman did such overdramatizing. The story wasn't hilarious, it was barely funny as we already heard similar ones many times.
I thought it was pretty cute :D
@@MrBodin26 wow you must be fun at parties. Also show some respect, that's Oti Mabuse, an incredible dancer.

The people who are on this show seem to have a lot of fun. American talk shows, on the other hand, are more like the host invites the guest and talks for the guest.
American talk shows are boring. This looks like a show I would actually watch.
I feel like this only pertains to Graham's show and his panel style interviews. Although other British shows are a bit more loose than American talk shows they follow the same format. Also, I'd say there's some genuine fun American talk shows like Conan O'Brien's show. I don't know if Graham would ever let someone slap him across the face after a tequila shot like Conan did with Sophie Turner.
The hate for anything American has no bounds.

@@KeaneAddict Out of interest, did you know that South Africa is a country? Southern Africa is the region.
Not only does Anna do an accent but she has the facial expression to go along with it.
Anna is pure gold.💖
Well, she is an actor, after all.
Day gone be okay check on up cup next thanks give honey please.
The rude mocker
She cracks up laughing, then explains the joke and states: I get it. That made me crack up. So adorable.
And being South African herself, she had that extra "my-back-home-accent-causing-chaos" reason to laugh. The second the guy mentions that the lady in the joke is South African (at 01:43), she just "gets it" before everyone does! Funny!
i love that everyone was like "woah" when anna told that the people in her story was steph and dom and justin timberlake was "sorry? who?"

I love that I was so focused on her that even though I saw him sitting next to her I did not even realize that was Justin Timberlake till I read this comment. Then went back and rewound it.

That was the standard format of nearly all talk shows in the 50s and 60s. Even the 70s. Tonight Show, Merv Griffin, Steve Allen, etc... Not sure when the one-at-a-time thing happened, but kudos to Graham Norton for staying with the old school format. Always enjoyed his show during its brief run here in the Colonies.

@J Donovan Language isn't static, it evolves over time, people will always invent new words and different ways of saying things. Shakespeare and Chaucer were great examples of inventing new words and changing the English grammar. Policing people about their grammar is futile, it also makes you an elitist, this youtube not a doctoral thesis! Let the man comment in peace.
Alan Carr, such a generous man, delivers a well aimed joke for Oti Mabuse to enjoy. What a lovely giggle box! I laughed too.😂

I love how Oti can laugh at that some people are really uptight about jokes about their accents or whatever but I love a person that can laugh at themselves and the way she says I get it is so cute!
The whole thing of Brits taking on different regional accents to do "bits" is absolutely true, and it's not the same as code-switching (using one of your own dialects to suit the company/situation, like leaning into your own regional dialect at home and using RP at work). It's also based on cultural attitudes each region has about other regions, so listen closely for that context.
I was very impressed that she'd picked up on that after a presumably short time here. My dad can never go a day without deviating from his true accent/voice at some point, a trait I have got and probably taken further.
What does "doing bits" mean? I'm not a native speaker so I don't really understand the context 😅
@@arifazam940 To do a "bit" is like doing a mini skit or piece of stand up, but it's a part of normal social interaction. It can be really small, like if your friend said that her dinner date ended with a guy coming on way too strong and telling her about all the sex stuff he wants to do to her, and you say, "uh, check please!" (Making references often goes into doing a good "bit"). In Anna's example, she thought the woman was pretending to be a very posh, put-upon dowager feeling greatly inconvenienced by the smallest thing, so she played along by acting the same way, to show she was on the same page and totally on board with the "bit".
We do a lot of that in the southern US. And others do it to us, of course! I was surprised to read that the posh accent of the British upper classes had to do with needing something besides money and land, etc., to distinguish oneself.
@@deborahminess4668 It's true! Establishing a "standard" way of speaking was about cementing status, and writing the first dictionaries was about codifying that "official" dialect as the only true English. That meant that the dictionaries were written from a certain perspective, by people with a very narrow experience (usually white, upper class and male), while also demoting all regional dialects that aren't the standardised English (or "Standard English") to inferior positions that denote someone as being lower or working class, and "uneducated". It's had a huge impact, and that bias exists to this day in societies all over the world. It's why one in four Scottish children fall behind in literacy -- because they're speaking Scots English at home but forced to learn in Standard English, which may well be as different as Swedish and Norwegian. It's why African American Vernacular English is reduced to "slang" and "ebonics", when it is a complex, rich vernacular, and Black Americans who speak General Standard American English are called "eloquent". It's why it's considered a feat for me to speak like this to you today, when I grew up in a lower class family speaking Yorkshire English (a Northern English dialect with heavy cultural connotations (for ref, see the film 'The Full Monty').
I had homes in Bristol and Orlando, and I'm so proud to have Anna Kendrick in this show by doing a British accent as an American.
1:20 Gotta say, the "knickers/nicklace" bit was the funniest part.
I saw something similar happen at a Silicon Valley cafeteria, where most of the cafeteria employees were from Mexico, and bilingual in Spanish & English. One ran out of $1 bills at her register, and asked a coworker for some "singles". She got a small stack of $5 bills instead, because the other thought she said "cincos".
Anna is absolutely adorable.
I don't watch shows like this, but Grahams always was an amusing show given the format(just throwing everyone on the couch at the same time and giving it a go).
I wish there was more of anna doing that impression, hilarious lol
