A shame this was the last episode and the cartoon didn't get a proper finale and we didn't get to see Venger finally defeated and our heroes finally returning home to their world.
Look up requiem, fan made eps done well for last episode
Agreed, d&d got such a bad rep in the 80s from right wing Christians who thought their children were summoning evil and it got media attention. If that hadn't happened we would live action Dragonlance Chronicles by now, LoTR style
There is one more episode called requiem that they go home. Watched it yesterday.
There's a Renault car commercial live action where they finally made it home

Eric turned out to be a pretty good deputy leader after all.
I'm beginning to think the Friends are trapped here on account of their association with Eric. They're all pretty decent people but he's the one who needs to grow the most. Bobby acts his agr, Hank and Diana are natural leaders, Presto is coming of age and Sheila is a good kid all around. Eric, on the other hand, is the most selfish, entitled and arrogant of the bunch. Their trip to the Realm may be his trial by fire to get him to change and become the leader he's actually capable of being. In our world he's got all the benefits of being the son of wealthy people (connections, money, confidence...) but he lacks the will to work and isn't willing (at first) to sacrifice his own gain for the good of the team. He learns that over the course of the show.
I feel the final episode should actually focus on Eric taking charge and getting the Friends home knowing he can't go at all. Not because of a curse (like when he became a bogbeast) but knowing he will be trapped there for life.
Of course he'd pass that test and DM would send him home, like Dorothy clicking her heels. "You've had it in you to go home all along, Cavalier!"
@@mr.pavone9719 in the last episode that is Presto who stays in the realm. But, as what was mentioned in another comment, that was Eric who ultimately saved the realm.
@@mr.pavone9719 If you see the one with the King Eric says he was better than his own dad ever was. Father probably had no time to spend with him as always working.
The trashy cartoons on these day's don't have the quality of this show the story animation and its not pc bullshit!!
I liked the way Eric started changing and making more sacrifices for the group.
Yes, Eric became a leader in this episode. You know I loved Dungeons and Dragons. It was one of my favorite childhood cartoons. But I have to say that Dungeon Master was one of the most pathetic weak characters in the whole series. Now he's suppose to be this very powerful and wise being, but all he manages to accomplish is a whole lotta nothing. The only thing he was good at is disappearing. When these kids are in trouble and need help, he's nowhere to be found. I don't blame Eric for calling him the "the master of nothing" because that's all he does. Nothing. He only shows up after these kids have defeated or stopped the bad guy. And I'm like where the heck were you the whole time. Dungeon Master is pretty much how I see God. Someone who claims to be all powerful, but don't seem to be able to accomplish anything worthwhile.
@@newman8180 The point of each story was to teach the Friends a lesson in morality, selflessness, compassion, bravery, etc. DM could have totally just fixed everything for them. He could even have sent them home at any time he wanted BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT.
In actual D&D a DM who just hands victory to their players, showers them with treasure and power is a shitty DM. The players never face any threats, never meet and overcome challenges and become bored with the game, or worse, learn to have everything handed to them without working for their rewards.
Conversely, a DM who does nothing but abuse and punish their players is also a shitty DM. Being capricious, fickle and temperamental is another great way to chase your players away.
So while Dungeon Master is stringing the Friends along, he's getting the best out of all of them. The Realm is a metaphor for the trials of teenage growth and learning and the Friends are (for some reason) called there to face the challenges, fix the wrongs and grow as people.
Notice that it's Eric (the spoiled kid who's probably had every material thing he's ever wanted given to him and has never had to work for anything) who complains the most about DM? He's also the one who changes the most over the series. It could very well be that he's the reason the Friends are pulled in to the Realm.
@@mr.pavone9719 That maybe true, but I still found Dungeon Master's character to be feckless and weak. By the way there is something else I always wondered about this series, maybe you can help me. What was Prestos real name? Every other character had a real first name except Presto.
@@newman8180 The series bible supposedly gives his real name as Albert.
@@newman8180 every action has its equal and opposite reaction, he is the architect of the adventure. He can narrate, not interfere- think of him as sitting at the table of a D&D game and spelling out situations for the players to interact with :). I think the way they portrayed him was absolutely perfect. I do feel he sometimes cuts into the story a bit too much, stopping a bad person from doing something with a magical artifact happened a couple of times as I recall. A normal dungeon master would let it ride I think.
8:19 Eric: We appreciate your help, Martha, but we don't wanna be safe."
From episode 1 "Night of No Tomorrow" to this moment. Even now, I'm still impressed with Eric's maturity.
So when Hanks not around Eric really can lead...hmmm
I notice in the second season episodes Eric started really growing up and changing .
I guess even he can do something right occasionally.
And he’s the one who ultimately saves the whole realm, even with some prompting from Hank.
Martha: Thanks for not just telling me what to do years ago, you sadistic little Yoda knockoff!
I love Eric's optimism and bravery here.
All those poor people released after hundreds of years only to find their entire lives are gone forever.
Even after all these years, that dam Unicorn still annoys the crap out of me !!
Bobby gets on my nerves.
@@2199 he reminds me of Scrappy ...on Scooby Doo ....let me at him, lah ma at him .
leighmossien2009
He's very much a Scrappy Doo.
I think the creators and writers gave Uni a prominent part in every episode so more girls would watch the cartoon. Also, children expect that kind of repetition and level of interaction among characters in a cartoon
@@econdude3811 at 1st i liked it......but there has been many times they had a chance to leave that world but Bobby didnt wonna leave the unicorn .. and that annoyed me.
Eric has leadership quality
One of my favorite episodes! The Darkling really is one of the creepiest antagonists of the series- a nightmarish Boogeyman-like figure. Martha's character I found interesting and easy to relate with. Judging by the photo of her family, it seems Martha may have come from the 19th or 20th century. How she got into the realm would have been interesting to learn. I love how she is a Mom figure to the gang and when the moment arose, accepted the power in herself and did not run from those who needed help. Also glad Eric was not a wise-cracking jerk either, a sign he was growing up.
WesterosWolf1327- Martha was based on an Mrs. Garrett persona, from the tv show The Facts of Life. The looks were also inspired. I think that's where they got the idea from.
I have never seen "The Facts of Life" before but am intrigued to watch it. Thanks for giving your theory on the character.
+WesterosWolf1327 -Yeah, it's an all female show but it's cool to see the pretty women and having good morals about their choices in life.
Starting to remind me of "The Golden Girls" sort of. Will watch it when I get a chance.
This episode has a Ravenloft vibe to it.
This whole episode has a different vibe from the rest - a bit Ravenloft. Also it almost feels like it could have been a backdoor pilot for a Martha cartoon. I can imagine her being played by Angela Lansbury. Also that her character's pet predates Furby toys and that the Darkling looks like an extra from Scooby Doo.
Surprised they haven't tried to kill the Dungeon Master at this point, constantly sending them on dead end missions with the promise of going home knowing full well they weren't.
Exactly, dude is full of BS
Gimme the full murderhobo party already.
@@elmerfudpucker5387 …but usually the reason is because of a selfless choice.

I love Eric's sarcasm. He always makes me laugh..He tells the monster Yeah,Yeah she sent us to put an end to you..Classic
I wish we had episode 28.
It was developed into a radio play which is on the dvd box set.

yeah if i had a real time machine i would rewrite history by going back in time to make sure that one episode gets produce. by going even Further to 975 ad. and that what David Xanatos did in this one episode of gargoyles. he went back in time to 975 ad. And was given a coin the coin was worthless in 975 ad but by 1975 the coin will be worth about 20 grand and that’s how David Xanatos got very rich. so if any body would that going back into the past will not be make believe any more someday. someone will do what David Xanatos did. only using this knowledge for good. like giving a 975 ad. coin that will be worth about 20 grand in the future. to a studio that makes cartoon so that they will be ready of a bankrupt thing. sure it's not real now but hover boards have become real so can real time machines someday. it may be a fantasy thing but even fantasy can become a reality.

That guy is so similiar to the guy from Jeepers Creepers, in both appearance and activity.
I was just about to write something very similar. As an 80's cartoon and horror films fan I know you're fairly awesome, like myself ...ahem!?! >XD
Number09 that guy is a reference from DC by Marvel about Batman nemesis called Scarecrow.
Ah! So it wasn't just me!
I thought I was the only one who was thinking the same. I'm glad some of us noticed. 👍
@@marciocardoso75D a reference from DC by marvel? What? And I don't think this is anything like scarecrow
i did not expect this show to be good. Me and my friends binged it for three days, just out of curiosity
ps. we now have an ideas for a campaign thanks to this lol
I don't believe this episode was the second to last episode that was supposed to have originally aired. At 20:45 when Dungeon Master responds to Erik about knowing of a great magician who may be able to send them home, that doesn't sound like it would lead to the last radio-play episode that ultimately ends the series.
So feels like this series had the rug pulled out from underneath it.
13 episodes its first season.
8 episodes its second season.
Only 6 episodes its third and final season.
And even then, its final episode doesn't give them a true conclusion to their plight.
Darn studio heads that pulled this series!
Back then the studio was getting a lot of heat from angry parents who thought that their kids were being influenced by a cult. After numerous threats, the studio decided to end the series with a final episode. Michael Reeves wrote the episode 'Requiem' but sadly they had to close production before the episode was finished. As a consolation to fans, Michael Reeves released the script online for fans. Fortunately, years later, a fan base managed to produce that episode and saved our childhood.
@@kevin777david parents back then were ignorant Dumbass D&D especially AD&D has nothing too do with cults or black magic in fact I've played Both Games In the original form and on the PC in the original form with/without little metal figures and the PC gameing one's in all.that time there's was no evidence of Cults or Black Magick and Alike boy some people back then didn't have Brains if a clut wanted too influence kids I doubt they'd ues a fantasy like D&D
Don't worry, the final episode exists. The final un-produced script was animated by a die hard fan last year. Look for "Requiem."
I believe in Gweekin supremacy
Thanks for putting up all these. Very much enjoyed this series.
Why does this lady look like she's straight out of Howl's Moving Castle or ni no kuni?
How am I just now finding this? It's brilliant
I am 40, and this cartoon programme is one of my treasured memories from childhood. Being a child and watching this was magical- so much, that it stayed in my head all these years. RUclips helped me to relive it (and the person who uploaded it). I'm so thankful.
I thought at firat Martha mightbhave been DMs ex-wife... and Venger and Kareenas mom!
I remember an episode of this that I haven't seen again when watching the whole series. There was one where Venger turned good for a short time and we got to see him as he originally was. I remember clearly reading about it online years ago and it said "we got to hear Venger's voice without the sinister reverb". That phrase has always stuck in my mind because it's when I learned what reverb was. Maybe that was only ever shown in the UK or I'm thinking of another show but I'm sure it was Venger because I remember seeing him change into a normal looking person. Anyone else remember that?
And I just watched Requiem after writing that and that's what happened! I don't remember the rest of the story and that wasn't how I remember Venger changing but it did happen. I must have seen some version of it before but this was back in the 80s or 90s.
Wondering if you're thinking of The Last Illusion where Venger was disguised as some Greek hoplite looking character and accused the children of being the cause of Varla's village falling under attack. He did lose the reverb in that episode, but you don't see a "younger" version of him, just a disguise.
The kids also discuss whether there is good in Venter after he let's them go at the end of The Treasure of Tardos, and then DM confirms tearfully that there was good in him once. That's the only episode I know of that mentions that possibility.
He was disguised as a Titann action figure!
Venger never turned "good" until the final episode. I saw every ep as they aired and the scene you're describing never happened. I agree you're probably mis-remembering "Last Illusion" where Venger adopted a good guy disguise for a few minutes to trick the children.
Venger's voice without the reverb is just Optimus Prime. Its the same voice actor. Venger slips into the Prime voice every now and again in the 2nd season.
This is the Jeepers Creepers lost origin story
Uni is the Jar Jar Binks of D & D.
no way Uni is far better character than that idiot Jar Jar.
So is Martha jaded with Dungeon Master because she out-lived her family because she has been running from her ability to end the Darkling's presence all this time or what?
I was expecting her family to have been taking from her by the Darkling but then she would have been motivated to have confronted him sooner, thinking about it.
Martha was a scared to death of the darkling..
20:55 , Hank speaks in Eric's voice.
Hank is changing the voice.
It's very nice!
This happened in a few other episodes as well
😂
This must have been a Halloween episode. The characters seemed out of place and time for a D&D world.
Far more ravenloft/forgotten realms than the season 1 robert e howard.
This could of been a very dark episode. Martha is very much the exorcist... and the darkling a demon .
jackjackson 4 also, but Darkling is a reference to DC's Scarecrow from Batman stories.
Most of what come out with these days is terrible. This was one good example of a classic.....
check out the final episode for closure of this series. its fan made and can be a little rough sounding but the story is actually good.

Would be so easy to remake this show and do it right, but given the industries track record it would be a steaming pile of garbage and and insult to this shows legacy and it's fans.
I just noticed that Shelia andHFank must ne an item.
This guy kind of reminds me of that scarecrow from Galaxy Rangers.
Waiting for a Scooby-Doo opening at 2:21.
Winds Of Darkness is what people call me after I eat at Chipotle.
before I saw the picture, I thought she was a silver dragon
I guess this is as close as the series was going to get to Ravenloft, but honestly this ep is a mess. The Darkling just rings wrong in a D and D world, being more akin to the Real Ghostbusters or maybe some anime. Martha and her wagon and the surrounding villages totally clash with every other episode in the series. The story editing had totally collapsed by this point as well. We get a big build-up to Mindral but never see it...DM references another way home which we KNOW already fails...etc etc
How many Episodes is there ?
the Darkling looks like Chakan: The Forever Man
Reminds me a bit of Barovia.
Hawdkoah I immediately thought the same thing. Would love to see a Ravenloft animated series.
Same. I'd love if we got a good reboot of this series, but have the kids hop through different D&D worlds.
"Welcome to the Demiplane of Dread, my pupils!"
"Crap."
These were surprisingly good stories for a kid's show. The antagonists were great. The riddles and the part the kids had to play in each ep were well-integrated. What I found disappointing was, with all that set-up, they had to speed through the ep because they only had less than twenty minutes to tell the complete story. I've often wanted to see more and learn more about the antagonists. A reboot on a streaming service where they can take their time and explore these situations, pushing each ep out to thirty minutes or more, would be awesome. I wouldn't care if they simply remade and expanded on the stories in this series. It had such wonderful creative writing.
The voice of Martha reminds me of a variety of female Dark Elves in Skyrim.
so they stopped it at 27?!! this sucks!! literately.
At the end i still dont know how they get home. anyone explain for me please
They DONT get home in this episode. It was never meant to be the last one. The final episode was never animated until recently.
That's how it ends!? The quest for getting back home 🏡 to their world 🌎 and taking down Venger still continues?!

Can we give Tonia Gayle Smith her flowers for what seems to be her final acting performance (at least on the national stage)? Her acting credits literally only list her role as Diana and a one-line cameo on an episode of The Facts of Life.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Tonia likely quit acting after D&D wrapped shooting. If this is the case, she didn't do too bad as Diana for her only prominent acting role.
Esse desenho foi um enorme sucesso no Brasil

The best first half to any of the DD episodes.
3 victims every 33 years? That's barely even notable for this world.
Just curious I wonder what the introduction wood look like in three dimensional.......
A couple of things, that team should have been better off without Hank. He's gone and you move on. It doesn't matter who the leader is. Second, those kids had no business trying to entice Martha to help them. She made her choice not to help and those kids should have respected that. Hank made the decision to get himself caught up in that situation. I'm team Martha on that. Helping someone is choice, not a "have to". This episode was completely toxic treating Martha like that.
ending made zero sense. If all the people came back from the darkness shouldn't Martha been reunited with her family? Also didn't make sense for all those people to still be alive after 1,000 years. Only the last few would have still been alive.
All the crap films etc or sequels that destroy a franchise yet no one has considered making this into a movie. Granted, they'd need explain the getting lost and getting home. +srinu vasu The last episode was never released, but there was a script in which they did return home. In the same episode it was revelaed that Venger was actually Dungeon Master's son turned bad by 'He Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken'.
Thank you soooooooooooo much
ACTUALLY they didn't return home. At the end they're given the opportunity to go home or stay and fight the rest of the evils in the realm...and that's how it ends. You can believe either or BUT...technically they planned on a 4th season so the kids didn't go home. They would have been a tad older and more self sufficient and less reliant on their magic weapons. I imagine they would have had to face the Nameless One one more time before going home.
