Is Mick Schumacher ready for Formula 1?

- When you say the name 'Schumacher', you instantly think of Michael and his amazing achievements. His son Mick is also following in his footsteps, and he too is collecting a healthy array of wins and titles. But is he just a name or can Mick emulate - at least in some way - the success his father had?

Officially signed with Haas for 2021 - congrats Mick!
I really hope that people won't be expecting the world out of him, just because of his father.
He is his own person. Everyone is born with a certain maximum potential and we don't know where that is for Mick.
@@lordflufffluff Same. I want him to cultivate his own legacy, free of pressure. I want him to become Michael; I don't expect him to be Michael.
I wish it was Mick in the Merc rather than George, but it is still good enough for him.
Pin this Josh 😂
Won the F2 Championship now - making moves
Personally I don't care about how good he is or what his name holds, he is a genuine nice guy. The crash with Shwartzman showed how he instantly holds he hand up to accept responsibility. And that's why I like him so much.
And people forget that whilst Micheal was a GOD he was very dirty so I’m glad that possibly the main and only critique you could have of Micheal is clearly not inherited. I think Mick will be very very good but tbh I don’t see him on a Leclerc level. Maybe he will prove me wrong
My dad and I still think it wasn’t his fault for that incident, but that might just be us. I know I am biased, but my dad doesn’t care too much.
@@swattoolblaastoose1761 Ah, come on, always the same crap. Michael was dirty like any other from that era of F1. Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher etc. It is like it is, nothing special to talk about just because it's about Schumacher.
@@jigglediggle29 argreed most of the greats had at least 1 crash at fault
@@swattoolblaastoose1761 to be honest I still dont see what everyone sees in Leclerq. I think Max will easily beat him, just like Russel if that guy had a car that works. Leclerq was just lucky last year to be in a Ferrari, well this year he is very strong, but look at what other drivers did with shitty cars. Leclerq is overrated
2:05 the crazy thing. Mick was with him when the accident happened. He saw everyting...
Yeah it’s really sad
Damn
And Mick is still one of the most humble and kind drivers around and still one of the best ,he deserves that seat, its been hard times for him and he still drives amazing, that proves something,he will only get better unlike some that come as prodigies and than just stay in the same form, while some more humble drivers slowly improve
@@mrbungle3310 Best comment right here. I hope Mick gets up to speed quickly when given his opportunity.
That must be heartbreaking.
I really hope all the pressure of being the son of the great Michael Schumacher doesn't stunt him as a driver, he's not even in F1 yet and the pressure is enormous...
He has been handling it very well so far. Considering he is the only eye witness to Michaels accident. Many young drivers would be crushed under the weight of pressure that Mick has endured so far.
Oh, the pressure will be there. Michael Schumacher once said in a German Interview that his son can be everything what he wants, but being a F1-Driver will be a hard time for him. Most likely he meant that they will all look on the name "Schumacher", despite Mick just being some driver who is driving in F1.
And the name "Schumacher" is a good thing in the Junior series, but the higher it gets, the more of a burden it is.
He copes with it amazing i think, hes chill and humble, plus performs very calm
It can have problems being the son of a great and trying to follow him, for example nelson piquet junior,
But also if you look at Aachen tendualker’s son, Arjun, he is currently playing cricket for India under 16s. So there can be advantages and also he will have more attention, this could drive him, or sink him. Also he will be more likely to get a seat compared to joe bloggs if they have the same ability, and personality because the media coverage will be attractive to teams like haas, alfa Romeo and Williams.
@Boris Posavec yes. But for me I’m hyped about him because he’s a potential f2 champion. I’m about as hyped about him as I was with George Russell or lando Norris.
Imagine how good Mick would be if his dad was there to orientate him.
I feal like his dad having the accident is what gives him the drive, to keep the name alive
I thought the same thing the whole video
It brings tears to my eyes think about how he has a father that has one of the best racing minds ever and he cannot tap into that knowledge. His father cannot be there to help and guide him to great success. But at the same time, it makes him a better driver because he is carving his own path and learning about himself and pushing to improve. I do believe, Mick is a future champ.
I guess u can kinda compare it Earnhardt Jr in nascar, could he have perhaps accomplish more if his father was still there to share his experience?
Well your going to have to because that potato isn't coming back
He’s leading the F2 championship atm so he’s doing SOMETHING right.
And it's not like the field is easy either.
Nah mate he’s only top because of his name 🤣🤦♂️ (this is a joke pls don’t kill me)

I mean many people have done well in lower categories doesn't mean there's any good in upper classes, mick Is fast and will most likely do well but who knows.
I like to imagine what would happen if his father majorly helped him in his career.
I think Mick told that he uses a lot of tips which his father gave to him a few days ago

Mick shows similar qualities to his father: Michael was never considered an outright racing talent, someone like Heinz Harald Frenzen or Karl Wendliger were considered to have much more natural speed. But what Michael had was an unrivaled work ethic, not seen by most formula 1 drivers in the past: he would test and test and test and test until the car was as good as it could possibly be. With Ferrari and their private testing track plus unrestricted testing back in the day, it really played to his strengths (and was probably the major reason his comeback wasn't as successful, combined with his simulator sickness). Someone like NIgel Mansel, who is considered one of the alltime greats, had nowhere near a work ethinc of Schumacher.
Micks progress in the junior categories is impressive and shows he has what it takes to get to F1, but staying their or even get successfull is an entierly differnent story. We basically have to wait and see. Not every driver with a great junior formula record made a big impact in F1, sometimes due to outside circumstances. I think even if he doesn't win the title in F2, he earned a chance in F1. And than do his talking on the track.
It's interesting, I heard from a friend who knew a guy at the Prema simulator that Shwartzman's talent was dauntingly good but Schumacher had the work ethic of a maniac and would toil away while Robert went there, did two or three runs and then f*ck off
I think you are underrating MSC natural speed. Obviously his work ethic is probably the best of all time in F1, but I have read that in his Sportscar career he was usually the fastest between him, Frentzen, and Wendlinger, but he was a tyre eater and fuel consumer, which is more important in sportscars than in single seaters. Barrichello usually handled the tyres better as well. Also, you can't forget he qualified p7 with his average Jordan in which he had almost no experience, and usually demoloshed his teammates in qualifying were the raw speed shows first. Some underrate his teammates, but people forget how highly rated they were, especially Barrichello who went toe to toe with Button in his older years who is no slouch either. Raw speed gets you so far, but his work ethic combined with his speed is what allowed him to be almost seconds faster than anybody until 2003 where Alonso and Raikkonen developed enough to be top drivers. I think the myth that he had average speed comes from the British press trying to diminish his achievements.
Well Peter sauber recently said that Schumacher was easily the fastest driver of the 3, but that frentzen because of his age/ experience had an advantage over Schumacher and Wendlinger.
Champion of F3, Champion of F2, next is F1. :D

Hilarious comment
Just give mick his chance to find his groove and to be his own driver. The last thing he needs is even more pressure.
He appears to, if his stellar f2 campaign is any indication.
And now he’s put a HAAS the slowest car on the grid by far into Q2 in Turkey. Safe to say he definitely deserves to be here
Judging off his race results at Abu Dhabi, Mick has the talent to do great things. In a different car like Alpine or Alpha Tauri, he might do better, but still being his first season he did show his character by being a respectful young driver. I’ll be cheering for him in the coming seasons
As a german i wish Mick all the luck in the world for the last races and his first f1 Season. He loves racing and is the son of the most successful Driver (at least in my eyes ... im 24 years and grew up with Michael) the pressure on him is massive plus his father had a fatal accident... he is not at the racetrack to support him ... i cant imagine how hard this is ... He knows everyone is watching on him and he knows if he didn’t perform or gets a podium he gets labeled as „Only the son off ....“ he Needs this Titel to show all critics he might not have the speed in one lap but Performs over the whole Race and Season .
The media needs to calm down about the son of 7 times f1 champions. He's just another racing driver that happen to be the son of Micheal Schumacher.

Without comparing his fathers career with Mik's, as far as he has done in the first 1/4 of 2021, he has done fantastic. Although being hobbled in the donkey of this years Hass, he has ticked all the boxes that rookies should. He has out qualified mazaspin 4-0, outdriven the horrible car, keeping it on the road and bringing the car not as far behind the alfa's and williams, and not breaking the car regularly.
He does seem to be a driver who slowly builds his season to end with good finishing stats. And as a learning, rookie in the worst car on the grid, experience will smooth off the rough edges. And he is also widely liked and respected in the paddock too. No bad thing in comparison to Tsunoda, Mazaspin, and the other rookies this year.
I can see, with the onset of the 2022 changes, that he could be in serious running to take raikonnens seat at alpha, and a solid midfield driver in the next 2years

7:16 looking back, holy hell we were more wrong than wrong can possibly be when it comes to something wrong being wrong
Mick always has a dud year before figuring out his machine if seems. He’s certainly F1 material if he keeps progressing I can see him being a frontrunner but he’s not the generational talent Leclerc is
He might to a Max and become the fastest on the grid only limited by his car without anyone expecting it, or he will become another Bruno Senna/Piquet JR.
if he figures out that Haas, he is already 3 steps ahead of Gunther
Leclerc whist a very good driver is some what over rated, his excellent results are in the cheating fezz, yes he has wrung the neck of this years machine but he has not out driven it in the same way Russell has the the williams, Leclerc is also no were the talent level of max. The likely hood is you'll see merc and how ever max drives for long term fighting it out for wins
@@simonglancy7070 that's F1. One day a driver will get a good result and fans will hype him to the second coming of Senna. The next day he doesn't do well, and fans say he's worse than Maldonado. Overrating is what all 'fans' do. But Leclerc is still on course for Top 4 in drivers with that Fiat, so he is good, and he was also the First Ferrari driver in 9 years to win at Monza, albeit with a illegal engine. He did what Vettel, Raikkonen and Massa couldn't manage in his first year for them, same like Max. Even though Mick might take a year or two to start lighting up the world, his work ethic to always keep improving shows he can get to wherever he wants to go. Also, he is making it into F1 with better overall results from his Junior Formula than some of the young drivers in it right now. Not to mention, he is in the most competitive F2 championship ever! If it was for his two unlucky races at the start of the season, he would be checked out in the points. He was running second in both cases.

"Mick will not have a dud teammate this year"

Yesssss! So happy you've created this video. Pissed myself laughing at the 'And the other one...' bit...
With the childhood he has had to endure (yes money isn't a concern but to not have your dad around and see him be a vegetable is an altogether horrible situation), he has done really well. Carries himself professionally and doesn't seem to have any arrogant air to himself. and now the F2 champion.
All the best for his F1 journey.
I'm typically of the opinion that, if the child of a person famous within a particular field decides to enter that same field, we should only ever judge them by their own merits. Mick has proven himself a capable driver, but I don't think he should be expected to fill the shoes of a seven-time world champion. Let Mick do his own thing (provided said thing isn't "crash into literally everyone"), see how his career progresses, and his team should provide the support every driver needs
If his performance in the earlier formulas is anything to go by. Then we could see Mick have a sort of slow start in the beginning, and not such big results. But with more time and more comfort in the car, we could see something special. Hopefully we will see him hit the ground running but it is more likley that he will need some time before the big results will come
He was good after 2021 season so far, in 2021 he quietly learning and pushing his car to the limit unlike mazepin. But i still can't quite thinking. Why ralf wasn't takes Michael places when mick needed advice. Of course it's different times and tech. But he have acknowledge.

I've followed F2 and F3 for a few years now and I think Schumacher is one of those guys who takes a while to find his feet. If he can stay in F1 for a few seasons, I think he has a good shot at landing a drive with a top team
I reckon he will take the first year to get up to speed with F1 whilst pushing the team forward and getting as good a result as he can with haas, but the second year (2022) is what Steiner has said that they are focusing on, 2021 is purely to get the drivers up to speed. But looking at how Mick (like his father) is mega consistent, has the best pace in the most competitive F2 field in a long while, and is always on form, I reckon he will have a bright future in F1

Bruno would've been a much better driver if he continued racing after Ayrton's death. He stopped karting for like 10 years after Ayrton died and this didn't help his development as a driver.
@@snowcune9342 Sadly stories like that happen all the time. After NASCAR driver Davey Allison died, his wife became extremely overprotective of their kids, and pulled his son Robbie out of racing. P.s What u said Josh about giving him a year or 2 so he can get used to the cars and so on, i couldn't agree more
I think newer generation f1 drivers are really strong. So is really harder to be the top driver these days.
You know it’s a good video when he does the Sean Galael part
A really good video mate.
Firstly, the name he is carrying, creates pressure like no other. And secondly, the years in the juniors have helped him mature which means he is ready for F1 if we look only at how mature someone is. But i genuinely think if he gets the Haas seat with Mazepin, Mick will be the faster and more consistent driver, meaning, he is going to win his teammate at least. And maybe the Williams drivers. And possibly Giovinazzi as well. But im most keen to follow his road in F1 and especially the first season when he gets to race against The Most Funniest and The Most Loved F1 Driver of all Time who also raced against his father: Kimi Räikkönen.
I want to see mick shumi vs Lewis Hamilton

I can't help it I like Mick. I'd definitely have him in my team. Likeable chap, and his family has been through that awful tradegy. He seems quiet, considered, hard working and friendly. There's some more race craft to unlock minimum. An exciting driver to watch for sure.
So he needs 1 season to get shit together, and then its all the way up from there...
Simple
He's got real talent imo but it'd take at least 3 seasons for us to see it properly given how predictable the grid is in F1
It also will depend if he changes from haas to a better team
As an American and a NASCAR fan, I believe Mick will end up being like Dale Earnhardt Jr. Son of a 7 time champion and winning championships in lower series. He will be just an above average driver. Knocking on the door of championships yet falling short. Winning races every once and while. On track performance aside, he will be a great ambassador and fan favorite in the sport because of his last name. Perhaps bring back a crowd of older fans that stopped watching, but is now intrigued because "I watched his dad race, I was a huge fan of him, lets see what the kids got"

Jos had a few podiums. Schumacher crushed him and Herbert was far better as a number 2.
Speaking of Joey Mawson he spent 2018 in GP3 for Arden and topped their driver points but didn't have the money to go further so spent 2019 running around in the Porsche Super Cup then back to Aus
A Bruno Senna vid would be cool, ik he stopped racing when he was 10 but his carting record looked promising, fairly understandable reason to hand up the lid like
Oh yeah, this aged well
The best father son pairing is yet to come: Chanoch and Roy Nissany
And now he is the F2 World Champion! Looking forward to next year
Mick will be coming to F1 no question about it. Hopefully he does well and achieve what he sets out to achieve. Best of luck to him
Tbh mick was insanly unlucky in 2019 his reliability was so shit he could have won a race in russia if his engine didn’t blew up and podium in monza which would make him the 2nd highest standing rookie and highest ranking FDA driver
