- GREAT ALTERNATIVES FOR OVERRATED CITIES IN EUROPE! 🌏 (Opinion based reel)
I’m calling these cities overrated for different reasons. The main ones being: criminality, overcrowding, expenses, and streets being covered in trash.
Obviously it is possible to have good experiences in these cities, I had them aswell. But not as frequently as in other places.
Anyways, have fun in the comments. Keep it clean! 😁🫶🏻

Not overrated - overcrowded. Because they are highly rated for good reasons.
Exactly. Lille is so much smaller, not as beautiful and boring in comparison to Paris 🤣🤣🤣🤦.
which is why they are absolutely filthy and dangerous and that makes them overrated
@@bramobinLille isn't boring, it's just that people only talk about the biggest cities like Paris or London and don't get to explore the safest, cleanest, and better cities
@@Edu23u Lille is not safer, it's poorer, full of crackheads I was almost stabbed twice there. And besides the small city center the rest is kind of a shithole. Brussels is a better city in the same region. Paris is SO SO SO much better, I can't stress it enough.
@@bramobin ok each one has their 1 opinion but for me I don't really like Paris I think it's overrated
Just want to stress that London and Edinburgh are very different. As they are in different countries. Different people, different vibe but still expensive and over crowded.
They're both in Britian bruv.
@@Turtle262 Still very different people
@@Turtle262 Britain comprises three countries, it is an island.
@@anthonydanielgittins1864 it also makes up part of a single country the UK.
The UK is a country made of countries as opposed to stated or territories etc.
But it is correct to say it is one country as it is to say its multiple.
In fact its technically more correct to say its one country, as the UK meets more definitions of the word country than its constituent countries do.
@@Turtle262 that doesn’t mean crap bruv.
Try that opinion here and see what happens 😉 aberdonians would have you bent round a sign post suggesting they are anything like Londoners.
Spent 4 years in Lille. Highly recommend. Friendliest people ever; fantastic night life. Amazing museums and contemporary art centers. And Bruges is an absolute must see, for sure
Factssss amazing cities! 🇫🇷 🇧🇪
I can confirm
Can’t confirm
@@faridqojayev7240 no bro Lille is beautiful I need to say it
Juste watch Lille safety before speaking... And yes, take one picture of Paris in a specific context, idiot.
They are not overrated at all. Paris offers so much in regards to architecture, history, culinary, art, shopping, sports, and fashion. It is beautiful and has a distinctive Flair. What do people expect from a city? Barcelona is one of the nicest places to live and has so much to offer. Great food, great party scene, shopping paradise, nice beaches, it is beautiful etc. Brussels is maybe a little bit boring and two days are more than enough to see most things, but still it is the place in Belgium to go. Brugges or Gent are beautiful but even more boring (both are 1 day trips). Sorry but this dude just doesn't know what is good.
I do feel Paris is marketing I went and it was highly disappointing 🤷🏼♀️
It is. I don't know where your average destination is, but there are many places that offer so much, if not more than what you described, but don't get enough attention. I am sorry, but Paris is very very overrated.
To make matters worse, Paris has: too many people, looks depressing if you are one day off from good weather, everything is too far a part, I can't visit without being told there are Protests going on, too expensive and the notorious smell of urine. Overall the city is nice (based on definitions it might be meh), but saying that it isn't overrated is a huge huge overstatement.
It also doesn't help with your point that there is an entire condition originating in Japanese tourists coming to Paris expecting the romanticised ideal city they've been told about, but getting massive shock even nosebleeds and maybe collapsing upon realisation that Paris has nothing to do with that.
While we're at it, if you really claim that Paris isn't overrated, I curious to find out how often you travel, and where you have been. It's okay if you don't travel often, and it's okay if you do, but saying Paris isn't overrated is absurd.
@@MA-yc7pz go along the cinque Terre u will enjoy it much more trust me
@@cerebrummaximus3762 I am sure you never been to Paris. If you state that everything is "too far apart" while Paris has an area of only 105.4 km2. Compare this to Berlin 891.7 km2, London with 1572 km2, Boston with 232.1 km2, or Rome with 1287.36 km2. I live in Germany close to the border of the Netherlands and Belgium. I traveled a lot in Western Europe (Spain, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, UK). I have been to Eastern Europe as well (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Turkey) and I went to the US and some Asian countries (UAE, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Thailand). Your description of Paris is just not true unless you booked a cheap hotel far outside of the city center. Of course these neighborhoods suck, just like in every other major city.
@@hasatamashi I have been to Paris so many times, I know it off by heart. Yes it is fairly far a part.
Compare Paris with Vienna. Certainly some attractions are further away, but the main attractions are in walking distance, or at least a reasonable enough distance.
If you prefer hikes, Plovdiv is great. The Big things are close to the centre. If you like walking, there are hiking marcheroutes, but they are reasonable distance away, you don't need a train.
Mostar, everything is there for you close to eachother (although there are cool attractions outside the city you need a car for, everything in Mostar proper is there for you). Sarajevo is a little spaced out, but if you have time you can walk yourself across.
Bruxelles isn't overly spread out either, although slightly more so. You can experience Bruxelles life within walking distance, and majority of attractions are in walking distance. Same with Luxembourg. Same with Amsterdam.
I never said anything about London. London is on the same boat as Paris. Too too spaced out, too many people, to touristy, and you have to have far too much time on your hands to find something properly good there. I don't have much experience outside Europe, so if cities in Asia or America really are that big, I wouldn't have experience to tell you.
Trieste is soooo underrated
Underrated cities in Italy are also Ravenna, Bologna, Lucca, Bergamo, Treviso and Verona.
Verona and Bologna aren't underrated, neither is Lucca, they are always packed with tourists and righteously
How is Bologna underrated since it's one of the most visited city in Italy? 🤔
would love to visit Ravenna: so much history there
Assisi is a great town in Italy
Verona and Bologna underrated ?
I live in Zaragoza and as you said it’s underrated
None of these cities are overrated as I’ve visited them all… Lille to replace Paris ? Wtf is that !
You just need to visit these at the right period of the year…
I almost choked myself to death when he said Lille 🤣🤣🤣😭. No way he actually seriously visited Lille or Paris, Paris is like 400x better than Lille. Lille is far from the best french ciry for tourism too.
These are all really good alternatives except for London/Edinburgh. They're both great cities in the UK but they're also both very touristy and expensive. i'd swap London for Bath and Edinburgh for Either York or Stirling.
I would miss Edinburgh and visit St Andrews.
@@ds1868 yeah that's very touristy
Bruges is nice, but I thought Ghent was way cooler and had a very chilled vibe. Alternative to both London and Edinburgh is Newcastle Upon Tyne!
I think the same. I visited Belgium last summer, and I was really surprised with Gent. One of my fauvorite cities for sure
Thank you for Trieste ❤️
I went to Trieste and Venice last week
Paris is definitely NOT overrated. It is overcrowded in some area but it's crazy to say overrated.
Thanks for mentioning my city Trieste, a very hidden gem, not even Italians know us and it's quite understandable since we don't want to get much tourism.
We and our politicians want to save our city from mass tourism and we actually do a lot for this!
I can confirm Trieste is good
Paris is definitely not overrated
Love Paris, London and Edinburgh out of these. Each to their own. 😊 cheers from 🇦🇺
I was in Lille with school last year and I had a lot of fun! Definitely recommend it!
I just imagine an American flying to Europe for a once a lifetime trip and that decides to go to Lille instead of Paris. This would be wild stupidity!
Bruges is so overrun by tourists, you can hardly move there.
You want to visit England, don't go to London, go to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, makes sense. It's like saying don't go to London, go to Cardiff.
You said visit england and then talked about going to edinburgh-
I agree for Paris. I live there, it is a beautiful city but there are too many people and it is reallyyyy expensive. Lille is too, awesome! You will have a fantastic experience
Paris ville poubelle, comme Marseille
Yeah but that's the thing, the reason its so expensive and there's so many people is because its so beautiful and there's so much to do. Lille is pretty boring for tourists ngl...(i lived there). There are way better alternatives in France than Lille. But nothing that can dethrone Paris and its not even close.
@@bramobinI’ve visited nearly every country in Europe and Paris was one of my least favourite places
@@dylanmurphy9389 did you do lille and thought it was better? 😂😂
Bro Edinburgh is such a downgrade from London 😂
Atleast u don't get stabbed there😂
Edinburgh has a castle, London have dumbasses in a renovated cathedral lol
I live in Belgium close to Lille and Bruges i can confirm Lille is an alternative for Paris even if Paris it's magical but sorry Brussels and Bruges are completely different I visited Bruges like 200 times and Brussels like 10 times and Bruges has even higher prices 🇧🇪🇧🇪🇫🇷🇫🇷 if you want to visit Belgium move with the train and don't reserve your seat
Antwerp is more similar in my opinion
@@quandale_dingle6353 Yea like more Antwerpen than Bruxelles is my favorite city in Belgium Antwerpen i Just love it
@@quandale_dingle6353 i think is not that similar to Bruxelles my opinion
I liked Ostend
London and Edinburgh are in two different countries ..
Ye they’re still in Europe dummy
No they are not, the uk is a country, and London is the capital of it (including scottish territory)
@@miguelmelchior986UK is a Union made up of 4 countries.
@@dylanmurphy9389 States that make a country.
@@dylanmurphy9389 The UK is a country.
I am from Trieste😁😁
Do we get annoying? you know us Slovenians for constantly screaming at something about TRST JE NAŠ!
I agree with all of them but Barcelona I would have given San Sebastian instead
I would also put antwerp instead of bruges
Venice isn't over rated
Yes, it is
It is.
It's very beautiful and worth the hype just overcrowded 🙁
Trieste is sticky and dirty,Venice is way better
Absolutely, Zaragoza is such an underrated city!
Brussels and Bruges are two very different cities... also Bruges is significantly smaller than Brussels so it's more crowded in the summer !
Barcelona is so overrated and expensive, please go to Zaragoza or any other city
I see many of those video suggesting alternative cities... but the alternative cities are ever the same!!! In Europe there are literally thousands of cities that are amazing.
Bruges was overcrowded. I feel Ghent was the real Belgium experience.
Alternatives for London if you wanted to stay in England are York (vikings exhibits, old buildings, Harry Potter shambles/“diagon alley”) and Liverpool (mid century music culture, shopping, old buildings, night life)
Trieste/Terst/Trst is soooooooo magical!!!!
Both Barcelona and Zaragoza are equally beautiful imo
I’m a little sceptical about Trieste, it’s a beautiful city don’t get me wrong but it’s just not really that interesting outside the small city centre, it’s mostly just an industrial city, but it’s a nice Ancka point to travel in the surrounding country in Italy and Slovenia
I went to Bruges, and it not only overrated but also vert expensive for such a small city. Go to Gand instead. So much better
Nice video thank you Those alternatives are very beautiful too and much cheaper but bruges instead of Brussels, because bruges is very touristic too in the summer you almost can't move in the historical center i live in Oostende not far away from bruges. Leuven, Mechelen or Ghent was a better alternative for Brussels 🙂
Tbh Lille is like every Northern European city (Brussels, Amsterdam). If you want to see something different, you might want to go to Marseille or other cities in the South
Instead of london I would 100% say Bristol or somewhere other than the Scottish capital
Oh this song re-ignited childhood memories
Me who travelled to London and Edinburgh 🗿
Trieste is the first choice, Venice is the backup choice
If you want to spend a good holiday in France, go to the south (Montpellier, Nice, the Midi).
You can’t compare Barcelona and Zaragoza… impossible. Same for London and Edimburg
Alternate for London: Edinburg
Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, Derry: 🙃🙃🙃
Yes, and the list can be continued
I am Italian and I think u never visited Trieste because it's a very dirty and sticky city except the Piazza dell'unità d'Italia , Venice is way way better
You can easily say every part of Italy lol
I’m Italian and so I can say that Venice is fantastic, but there are places equally fantastic in non tourist part of Italy
I don't know how anybody could enjoy walking in such a herd of humans that if you take three steps to the left your suddenly lost I'll stick to my small ass towns
Visit Plovdiv during summer then.
the added benefit is that they are often served by small airports too...which are less stressful
Edinburgh and London are two very different experiences. One is definitely not a replacement for the other.
We recently talked about overtourism in Venice during class and it made me so sad I refuse to visit it lol. Imma find hidden gems ✨️
Don’t miss Venice if you get a chance I’ve been there 4 times and it’s been magical! Paris has changed sadly , went there for my 5th time…the first 4 were magnificent!!!! 5th gritty, felt unsafe.
New York❌
Philadelphia✅
I’m sorry but you can’t compare Barcelona with Zaragoza😐
DON'T YOU DARE TRAVEL TO EDINBURGH!!
Edinburgh is not underrated, it is highly regarded as one of the best cities to visit in the UK. If you wanted to go underrated for an alternative to London, you should have gone with Glasgow or Cardif 👍
Lille Edinburgh trieste, beautiful cities, but you compare them to Paris London and Venice
I've been to all those cities and none are overrrated
Aaaaa gracias por poner zaragoza de verdad nunca lo avían puesto 🫶🫶🫶💗💗
Excuse me but Barcelona is amazing, you would be missing out big time....there's is much more to Barcelona then La Rambla
Un turista a Trieste dopo aver fatto una passeggiata con "un po' di vento": perché qui parlano albanese?
Brugges is super touristy though. I live in Brussels and I usually prefer Mechelen or Dinant. Ghent is very cool too. Brussels is a great place, just not the easiest to consume as a tourist, as it comes with the drawbacks of a complex capital city. A pity cause tourists will rarely experience real Brussels and won't understand how pleasant the city is as most won't explore beyond Grand Place and the EU district.
true, brugges is literally made for tourism. there are tourists year-round
I think I need people to be aware how popular Bruges is. It’s so busy and Brussels is more of the business capital. Of course tourists go but Bruges is unbelievably touristy
I mean yea I can confirm Bruges is very busy I go with my friends to Bruges every week yea Brussels is busy too but not that much turist city
@@fedeoffederico7534 you just repeated what I said. I already confirmed it. Hi from Brussels.
London and Paris are the two best cities in the world!
Music name?
I would recomend Gent instead of bruges. Also, in my opinion Milan is the most overrated city in Europe. It is better to visit Bergamo
I would not suggest Edinburgh as a replacement for London! Try Bristol instead.
True i lived there in 2010 ❤
Another alternative for London is Cambridge
Its true about bruge being better then brussels because the city of Brussels is unfortunately very thilthy . thats my opinion atleast as a belgian.
btw mechelen is also a little city right in between brussels and antwerp. I would recommend it because im from there and its a little treasure in our country
Seoul ❌️
Pyongyang ✔️
Edinburgh is nothing like London nowhere in Britain is that much like London the closest would be like Manchester are Liverpool
Zaragoza is nice
Montpellier in France
Guy takes a party of paris during protests and think lille is better 🤦🤣🤣🤣. Trust me i've lived in both, for tourism Paris so much better. Way more things to do, the only issues are the prices and overcrowding. There isnt that many things to do in Lille, you can probably visit everything in like 1-2 days. +Everything outside the city center is poor and industrial. While in paris, you could probably spend 10+ days no cap. Plus Paris is much more beautiful and historical. Don't listen to this guy 🤣. If you really dont want to visit paris, consider Lyon instead.
Paris overrated? first time I have heard that. Lille is certainly a beautiful city but nothing compares to Paris.
Another great option: Budapest
For Venice, it’s Treviso trust me
Lol London was great in 2011 I was there I loved it. I still want to visit Edinburgh
Funny how you think that Bruges isn't overrated aswell. 😂
Bro what happened to you in Paris so you hate it so much?
Trieste = Yugo city 🇷🇸 🇲🇪 🇸🇮 🇭🇷 🇧🇦 🇲🇰 💪
London isnt overrated co,e in summer it is great
Hahahaha how can u compare Zaragoza to Barcelona
Exactly
Try Lyon instead of Paris !
Zaragoza better than Barcelona? No way.
Trieste is a beautiful city but it had nothing in common with Venezia
Neanche dovremmo essere in Italia in effetti.
How can Trieste be an alternative for venice ??
I would say more Chioggia or Comacchio have the same structure of Venezia but Comacchio is really small.
Trieste is my favourite city of Italy but it's different from Venezia.
Marseille would be better instead of Lille for an alternative.
Also I wouldn't say they are overrated but overcrowded. The only overrated I'd consider in your list is Barcelona.
hahaha Marseille
is the shittiest city in france.
Lille, Bordeaux and Strasbourg are good cities
i lvoe barcaelone.
Vesco barca
Vesco Catalunya
Marseille is ugly and dirty
You should check out Russian cities
Uh, bad timing.
No way this mf said Zaragoza is better than Barcelona
Paris and lil it's definitely not valuable even if Lille is a nice city 😅 and Barcelona and Zaragoza it's quite different also because Barcelona is a coastal city.
Paris aint overrated wtf i need the eiffel tower
Warszawa No. Krużewniki Yes.
Cambridge instead of London too maybe
ive been to both bruges and venice last summer. bruges is ehh, its fine, theres not really much to see but the entire city is literally built around tourism. there's a nice ice cream shop near the main square. venice is cool! it's fairly crowded jn summer but not *that* much, and it's worth it to see the attractions ♡
also comparing london to edinburgh is so silly considering you're comparing the south to the north (completely different)
Another great city in France is Lyon
Utrecht And Amsterdam
Suggesting Edinburgh over London is saying its nicer to get stabbed with a broken bottle than a kitchen knife.
