  • Leopold and Loeb, two highly educated young men from American high society, decided to pull off the perfect crime. Fearless of being caught, they believed the rules of ordinary morality did not apply to them. After the kidnapping and murder of an innocent child, they are quickly caught. And so begins the first sensational trial of the century. Sixty five years later, and identical trial takes place with the Menendez Brothers sitting in the defendants chairs for the murder of their parents.

    What this documentary failed to say is that Loeb was a cousin of Bobby Franks. This is the real reason Bobby Franks got into the car that day. He had played tennis with Loeb on numerous occasions and, because he was also family, Bobby had no reason to fear getting into the vehicle. He truly had no inkling of what was about to take place because he trusted a family member. So sad...

    It's truly amazing that Leopold and Loeb avoided the gallows; an incredible piece of work by Clarence Darrow - America's top litigator at that time. In the sentencing hearing, Darrow faced an uphill battle to avoid a death sentence. He relied heavily on various medical/psychological; and the judge was clearly influenced by their prolific report and testimony. This is a great example of how the justice system favours the wealthy. ...

      @@creolelady182 They were facing the death penalty, but Darrow was absolute keen wit and had Loeb and Leopold were a test case for Darrow. He had his clients change their plea from innocent to guilty. That pulled him from a jury trial because the boys had already admitted they murdered Bobby. So that's out. But pleading for their lives to avoid the death penalty, that was what Darrow was doing. He hated the death penalty and he got the one judge that had a long history of showing compassion. He also had to sway public opinion. He's closing statement was a 12 hour oration about why we should not put to death anyone. The judge decided that being put to death at 18 and 19 then, they were younger when they killed Bobby. So the Judge gave the life (about 20 years) Plus an additional 99 years. This story while entertain have some minor mistakes here. The young men were gay. So while they probably "dated" they didn't actually have hetero dates.
      Loeb had a reported IQ of 210, Leopold had a bright IQ of 160.

The arrogance of the rich entitled smart asses who were emotionally stunted. The homosexual aspect to their relationship and the evil synergy they created all captivate the public. This is an excellent documentary that goes into a lot more detail of what happened after the conviction which provides far greater insight to the lives of the couple.

    I have to explain the importance of headlines to you, dear Adrienne.
    Your Headline states "brothers" ( nothing about " blood brothers " or brothers in blood ). Why do you think it matters to state the truth in headlines? Because there are as many out there that read only the headline as there are IQ challenged people. Especially in the US. Trust me, I know, I lived in the US for 18 years.
    Back to the subject though.
    Why do you think the US is as effed up as it is? Because you have all kinds of incompetent lying fools and racist garbagge out there that spread untruth and evil lies. So do the newspapers - and a wrong headline is enough to stick with brainless people for it to call it "facts" without even reading the article . So you see misstating something in the headline is a crucial mistake.

      @shannonoreilly4695 2 года назад +1

      Not speculation; they did have a sexual relationship. It wasn’t talked about for a long time because of homophobia but it is 100% fact that they were sleeping together. The general story seems to be they started sleeping together soon after meeting, Leopold was madly in love with Loeb whereas Loeb was mostly indifferent to sex in general, but made a pact to have sex with Leopold if Leopold agreed to commit crimes with him. Leopold had little interest in committing crimes himself but rather did it because he was in love with/sexually attracted to Loeb, and Loeb used that to his advantage.
      Very far from brothers indeed.
