I think the message is how young people tend to think that they are going to be young forever and that they can be reckless all the time but with their irresponsible ongoing behavior they are taking away their older version’s time 😢 its so well done. the last 20 mins were pure comedy but the message stands strong
this comment was a good messege to me,thank you
The message is so incredibly obvious and hamfisted, yet at the same time done in a really, really nonsensical manner. Literally why would Elizabeth ever continue the procedure past the first time her finger went old? She has no memory of what Sue does, she experiences 0 pleasure from it all.
"BRO MUH MESSAGE!!" is a cope for hack writing and disgusting CHEAP shock body horror and fish lensed close ups of Harvey eating
Yup. I was wreckless as hell and now I have to carry a forever alteration to my original body. Hope my older self can forgive my younger self some day
Comedy?? Noo it was traumatising😅😅😅
@@manaskumarrout9339 comedy and horror 🤣
I'm so glad The Substance meant the rebirth of the career of Demi and her performance impressed me as much as her co-star Margaret Qualley and about the movie, it's about self-accepting and constant fighting yourself when you refuse to get old especially, if you're a Hollywood celebrity and have to follow beauty standards-
It was a good movie. But the lost me in the last 40 seconds. I actually felt sorry for her. Especially the date scene. We’ve all been there. This is not about drug abuse and image only, it’s about self loathing too.
Your kind always says that. “I pity you, so therefore I think that makes me special, you’re just jealous of my nobodyness. As is every single other body on this comment page and especially the nerd shitshow on this channel hosting this garbage show.
Moral of the story- be thankful of your age and enjoy life. Yarning for youth and beauty will lose golden time of your life and you will be left with ugly monster.
While that's literally what happens, as a moral is nonsense right? Metaphorically or literally: _nobody yearning for youth loses their life or becomes a monster._ I think only in the loosest sense are there any parallels at all to real life (ie the story might've involved an older adult acting progressively more and more like a child in their pursuit of youth, and _that's_ the reason things go bad. (You know, things like they revert to their older self, but they show up to their job late which they never did before, and so things get worse and worse because they keep making the types of bad choices younger people make.)
A better (but ridiculously vague) moral would be, _"be careful of shady deals,"_ or more specifically, _"be sure a deal doesn't cost you more than you gain."_ Those are morals worth spreading (and the story does loosely support it).
Yes
It has less to do with youth and beauty than the fact that Elisabeth is treated as worthless by society because of her age and isolated
ahem simon cowell with that plastic surgery fiasco a few months ago
Dennis Quaid looks like he had a lot of fun playing a sleazy media executive.
As a Trump supporter he is exactly that
@@0815Horst this individual just said Dennis is a "media executive" - demoncrats have lettuce-iq ...
Ironic, considering how Ray Liotta was suppose to take on the role, but due to his untimely death was replaced with Quaid. Shockingly, Quaid bring Liotta's energy to the role here.
@@0815Horstcope harder

'Break a leg'
Subtle foreshadowing right there.
She would’ve been so happy with Fred
Yeah
Don't bring food while watching in theaters or you will barf everything you eat. 😅
but you can disregard the comment above if you are a man (and not a beta one 🙂 )
I was sick for three days after watching this movie, it probably didn’t help that while watching I was high AF.
Imagine being THAT guy who brings SHRIMP, you get what you deserve
Thanks God I didn't take any popcorn and ate before going in theaters
Margaret Qualley to me looks more similar to young Jennifer Connelly than Demi Moore, would have been nice for Jennifer to play the older version
Oh I love Jennifer connelly.
Demi Moore and Courteney Cox could've played as sisters tho
@@mohamadafifazizizaidi5625 yeah at first i thought it was Courteney the one in the movie
@@bornarose11 Fun(ny) facts:
1. In Demi's interview, some people approached her once upon a time and said "are you the girl from F.R.I.E.N.D.S?"
2. As a cherry on top, in one episode of the show, Monica asked Phoebe to do her a new haircut, "like Demi Moore from the movie 'Ghost'", ... which ended in a hilariously disastrous result.
Demi is a better actress than J.Connelly.
it looks very 'Requiem for a Dream' esque
omg yes i said the same!
AESS TO AESS
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde meets Perfect Blue
yeah both great movies, that i'll probably won't watch again
i dead ass thought it was made by the same director. turns out it wasn't.
I Had Not Been to a Theater since 2009, and My Wife’s Girlfriend had seen this Film a couple of days ago. AND SAID IT WAS A WILD RIDE! I’m a Big Fan of Body Horror! Then reading some of these Comments I said , this is for Me! And we went to see it! Great camera Work, Great Acting, Brilliant Editing, it was completely OVER THE TOP!! Was way more than I EXPECTED!! Iv seen A lot of Body Horror Films dating back to the70s! And this one Took it to A WHOLE NEW LEVEL! GO SEE IT! Now! And Be Sure To Fasten YOUR SEATBELT! Brilliant Simply Brilliant!!!!
Wife's girlfriend?
Lol
I think you mean, friend.
this movie is a metaphor for aging and fame fades to obscurity
This is like Death Becomes Her but a twisted horrifying fantasy scary movie
It's mean when your young beautiful you enjoy attentions, opened good opportunity to be famous, smart, men got gaga.
When you aged you lose atteaction
I also had that thought. same idea, but horror instead of comedy. Also, the Kardashians are living this in real life. just sayin
The body horror was unsettling but it didnt really gross me out to the point of fainting or throwing up
Why the hell would you want it to? What a shitty way to ingest art.
i mean looking at the movie in terms of production quality i wasn't really grossed out either i was just amazed on all the effects they used lol
the body horror of aging
I nearly threw up in the beginning gagging at the transformation and that entire scene. The end was grotesque.
No one threw up or fainted they always just say that to get hype for movies
An absolutely fantastic movie that had many shock moments.
5:12 a small detail I really like is how much care Sue had for her other counterpart in the beginning. Towel under her head and brushing her hair behind her ear. I’d say it goes to show how the innocent youth are crushed and twisted by the bitter old and end up just as twisted as them. Pair that with later in the movie where Elizabeth drags Sue’s body, Sue’s head repeatedly banged against the stairs. Just a nice detail I noticed and liked
Now I understand why Deadpool is one week on, one week off kind of a guy.
like Dorian grey
mixed with Jekyll and Hyde.
I knew this sounded familiar .
You missed the part when she was confronted by the nurse in the diner
That is very important to the film and should be highlighted.
What happens in the diner?
@@alittlebitofme07the nurse was in his old form and confronted her that she was more happy with her younger self and despised her old self
It gives me "The Black Swan" meets Black Mirror
This was super interesting 🤷🏾♀️ watched it twice
Same here. Was even tempted for a third time but luckily the movie just dropped off the local theater after a four week run. I will wait and hope a DVD comes out. I don't know because few DVDs are being made today. It might not even get a DVD but I hope it does because I want to watch the movie again.
I'll probably stop at the part where Sue injects the green Substance liquid into herself.
Didn't the green Substance formula remind you of Brian Yuzna's "Reanimator", 1987?
Me three times
Title please
@@NewGenerationYouths THE SUBSTANCE, produced and directed by French director, Coralie Farageat.
best movie this century imo, this is a timeless classic
This is the future 😊, everyone can get young again, just dont abuse the substances😅😅😅
The chicken bone part was a great message
i actually liked this movie ending was a little wacky and unfocused imo but still cool

@@mrs.naumankhan2407 the substance
Thank you! You saved me time and money.
Ok but Demi is still so gorgeous, more beautiful than many young women.
why do you have to say shes 'more beautiful' than many young women it just defeats the point of the film/ the entire message, you're still comparing women which is what we don't need ...
@poppybillingham8071 I mean if the point of the movie is to not compare women, but it stars two women who are impossibly beautiful it kinda fails at the first hurdle.
It's not about beauty but age
Who created the substance? Umbrella?? 😂😂
Enjoyed this movie. My only major complaint is that at first I thought she was essentially transferring her consciousness between herself and the younger version. When the movie reveals that they're 2 different people i was disappointed. What would be the allure of that.
For me they are the same. I really think sue is elizabeth other persona. Her desire of youth and beauty. Kinda like she has mental breakdown of her identity
Here's an equation for you all:
David Cronenberg style direction + Demi Moore reflecting on her 90s career × a theme about the abuse of performance/psychoactive drugs + a vibe like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde × the climax of Akira^Perfect Blue
Put them all together and what do you get?
Moral of the story: any person will grow form a baby to a very old person so you have to accept who you are just be natural don't even try these experiments
Your beautiful just the way you are don’t judge your body
Cry me a river
@@andreas5257you probably love Kim Kardashian. Plastic trash 😂
The noise at @00:02:17 scared my dog. I replayed it and it scared her every time
Man, I'm so glad I watched this summary instead of sitting through the whole movie. Saved myself 2 hours.
Better to watch the original : The Picture of Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde
Chicken leg was actually a dream.
This movie turned me off of Shrimp for a LONG time, it's bad enough they refuse to deturd them for the most part.
The movie reminds me so much of The Fly
I don't understand. Why would she like this arrangement?
have to watch the full movie to understand
My thing is if her younger self was stealing her life away. Why didn’t the older version still the younger one’s youth back too to be younger but it wouldn’t have mattered because of the balance so it wouldn’t matter that’s what I was thinking to be honest. 😂😂😂
"What's used on one side, gets lost on the other"
She was probably afraid of damaging Sue's body
This movie feels like it take place in the 1980s
I like to think of this movie as a retelling of the Nutty professor but with a horror twist. In the nutty professor, Sherman Klump is an overweight but friendly scientist who, after getting humiliated on a date, uses a dangerous drug that makes him rapidly lose weight, creating a new alter ego, Buddy love. Things go well for Sherman living two lives but as the movie goes on, Buddy takes over and tries to make Sherman disappear forever. It’s one of Eddie Murphy’s best movies.
If Demi is not attractive at 62, what hope is there for us mere mortals?
Unfortunately in this culture, being fertile and naive is more valuable than just a pretty face.
Goo is the ultimate fate of planet Earth. This film is an ominous foreshadowing.
When is this out?
‘dimiwit siren’🤣
So the true life story of Katie Price 😂😂😂
her disabled child pays the "Price" for her partying & drug taking
her disabled son pays the "Price" for her partying and drug abuse while pregnant
Or Madonna.
11:50 reminds me of dr lazarus in dr who
This kind of movie could be refered to any kind of shaming. Age, body, sex etc. It's about how "THEY'd love me more" vs how "I d love me more" which refers to new generations with all the arrogance of youth and the other hand the older generations who would love to maintain the love, acceptance admiration. Anyway, i couldn't stand to see the film till the end. I watched until the earrings, and then my nervous system got me out😅
you can tell that by saying older generations want to maintain love and acceptance that you are part of that older generation lol
@@oliviahyerobrine if you re young, be patient
That sense of loss that applies to every woman when they get old. It's a road of no return, irreversible, and if a woman isn't psychologically strong enough to accept the loss of her charm, she may end up making very drastic choices
It applies to man too, remember that young boy/old men
So.... Its basically the Reguvenators, retelling. The cult classic film from the 80s that basically started the "body horror" genre.
Was it before The Fly in 1986?
She splits into two different person because there was two physical bodies. I hope this made any sense.
How do they have two consciousness but they are one?
I know its a good film but this depressed me too much
Wow brutal delulu
When Sue is awake, does she jave the mind of Elisabeth or are they two different personalities?
Such a good story
I taught the second to last transformation of Elisabeth was a 200 year old man
Less than that lol
This concept of this film made NO sense. Elizabeth didn't benefit in anyway from creating Sue.
She thought she was ONE bc of the guy caller her telling her that
It’s at the end that she realized they were 2 different people
EDIT : after thinking about it, I think it’s more deep than that. Her memories were shared between the 2 but this is probably such a shocking way of living that a personality split into 2 different people, Elisabeth and her new alter ego Sue
Yes, that's the point. She thougt she would benefit, as she was told by the 'company' in the begginning that it's only one person, so she though she will enjoy the life of Sue, but that didn't happen. But the phone continued to repeat the 'no you and she, just one' like a mantra to keep her baited. When she tried to end it, that was when she realized that there is indeed two people, but she didn't want to take away Sue's chance.
She DID benefit. The new being created with Margaret Qualley‘s face WAS her as well. The moment she was born, there was Margaret Qualley, an iteration enjoying a new body, and Demi Moore, another iteration left behind. At some point Qualley begins acting hostile towards Moore so it seems like they are different people, but I think that’s the point of the movie, that it is not two separate beings but self-hatred. A young version of the mind becoming hateful towards the inevitable old aged existence, which only leads to self-destruction
She could have, but she didn't love herself at all, that's the message
Great analysis!! Thanks :)
This isnt a David Cronenberg movie?
If everything stops at 50 in terms of value-producing than Dennis Quaid would not have landed this role.
Its differnt for men
It does for most women
The idea demi Moore could need a substance for better looks is hogwash. Her character got a blessing aging that well
I was hoping Harvey the producer would comeuppance.
If he were to use the substance
The perfect movie for Halloween. Terrifying
Just watched it a few hours ago. A meaningful and sensational movie.
The problem is Demi Moore is way too good looking to make the plot believable she looks so young
Sue is Snow White and Elisabeth the evil witch. 🤔
Also I’m confused why Sue attacked Elisabeth? Because she was hideous ? 😅
The story sounds like a modern fairytale...or folklore
She is famous in 1994 and her career died in 2024
This is a really good film, probably one of the best horror movies in the last 10 years. Don't watch this AI-generated slop narration. Watch the movie. Experience art. Feel something!
Jennifer Lopez 😂?
She'd probably do this lol
Margaret Qualley is simply gorgeous
Demi moore stiill looks great without any substance lol

How could she sprayed the endless red glu or blood to the audiences? How many liters sprayed out?
It was an advice from CARRIE 👍🏼, but here no one got hurt or killed
It was a metaphor or whatever, like her anger channeled in that one moment, even I got it was done over the top on purpose.
