This jewel of a video was never seen until the year 2000, four years later after she had already died. They aired it on Top of the Pops in Britain and it instantly became the most requested video ever on the show.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written, performed majestically by a true songbird.

I am simply done in by Eva Cassidy's voice and story. I am a musician and listening to Eva has inspired me to study my guitar more seriously. This one brings me to tears every time. She doesn't try, she just is! Thank you so much for your reaction.

@@jeffreyjameson5510 Hi Jeffrey, The sequence of events as I heard them was that she was initially diagnosed a year or a bit more before she passed. After the initial diagnosis she was supposed to go for follow-ups frequently but was lax about doing so until the summer that you mentioned. At that point the cancer had already taken hold in a bigger way and spread. If only she had listened to the doctor's advice originally.

I agree! Sting said that he never listens to covers of his songs, but he did listen to Eva do Fields of Gold. It brought him to tears. She was so, so good. I also love her version of Wade in The Water.

"Sting," who wrote "Fields of Gold," said that SHE owned it. Champion figure skater Michelle Kwan made her version of the song so famous that it won a gold record -- which her parents gave to Kwan.

Eva has the genius in re-craving and molding a song, that makes it her own. She is a wonderfully accomplished guitar player, and the envy of many. The range of her voice is superb, with a sweet and smooth tone. You can just feel she has taken something we love, and raised it up to a more beautiful refrain.

This is one of those performances....Anyone who doesn't get a big 'ol lump in their throat watching and listening to this is, well, I don't know. I'm not someone who gets too emotional listing to someone sing a song. But this one gets me every single time I watch it. And it's always just this song by her. "Fields of Gold" and "Autumn Leaves" are also emotional performances but there's just something about this one that rips my heart out every single time. Watching Eva and listening to her. And the melody and lyrics when done in this manner. Just imagine if songwriters Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg were still alive all these decades later to hear their classic song done by this lady.

She has a great cover of the Fleetwood Mac (Christine McVie) song "Songbird" - if you've never heard the original you should start with that. Eva also has an excellent cover of Sting's "Field's of Gold", as well as the jazz standard "Autumn Leaves". Unfortunately Eva died too young (33) from melanoma - she worked outdoors at a nursery for many years as well as doing landscaping work.

I am not sure if you or others know the TRUE STORY about Eva Cassidy, so let me tell you...
Eva had been singing since she was a teenager and always had big dreams of becoming a professional singer.
As she grew up she began singing in small night clubs and cabarets and anywhere else she could preform.
She also tried numerous times to get a record contract but the producers always refused to authorize a record deal because she sang different genres and didn’t preform one particular genre. They thought that because of this her records wouldn’t sell.
So for a time she was limited to preforming in small clubs and cabarets till one night when a record producer was sitting in a night club where she was preforming.
After listening to her performance he approached her and offered to produce a record for her and she approved.
Ahe went into the studio and cut her first album and surprise upon surprise the album went gold soon after release.
At this point they decided to produce a second album and were in the process of making it when Eva became sick and had to visit a doctor.
The doctors discovered that she had an inoperable brain tumor and that there was nothing they or anyone could do for her.
Soon after this discovery she managed to complete her second album and shortly after it’s release she died.
Her second album also went gold like the first album…
Not many people are aware of her story and what she went through to achieve her dreams…
Regretfully we weren’t able to have more of her time on this earth…
She was 33 years old when she died…
    Now you know her story…
    R.I.P...

This is a remix , totally unnecessary, the original is as prefect a performance as you could ever want.
PS Blues in the Night is a total change up and shows the full range that Eva had.

More appropriate to have Eva on the larger screen while singing, with you on the smaller screen? This looks weird. Good that Eva is being recognised, though so late. Let's hope people won't be cashing in on her talent.
