GELLI PRINTING : Alternative Laserjet Transfer Method Pt.2

- In this video, you will see how I "level up" using the sticker backing LaserJet image transfer method that I showed you in my previous video, if you haven't seen that yet I suggest watching that video first. I will show you how I use this alternative LaserJet image transfer method by creating a complex gel plate print using acrylic paint applied directly with paint brushes to the gel plate, combining that with a corn starch resist method to create the background of the print. once I have finished the gel plate print, you will see how I apply a LaserJet image, that has been printed onto a sticker backing paper, direct to this gel plate print using gel medium.

Mark, the weird brush is definitely a stencil brush ! I LOVE your spirit of experimentation and the way you go for radical detail in these pieces. Three cheers!!❤❤❤
@@carolynking5418 thank you that’s very kind.
@@gelwithmark I am SO DANG INSPIRED to reach for detail level in my gel printing now. Thank YOU!
@@carolynking5418 👍🏻
A year and a half? You are freaking amazing!!!!
🤣🤣 Thanks for the praise!
This content is getting slicker all the time.
Cheers 👍🏻
Please do continue making new content. There's very little on RUclips (other than the other Mark!) that isn't flowers and leaves. Nothing wrong with that of course but the twee stuff just isn't me and I love your art. Inspirational. Thank you.
Thanks Robert. I intend to keep making content yes, and I also know what you mean about there not being a huge pool of resources other than Mr Yeates which was really the only channel that I found of much interest on RUclips when I first started to investigate the gel plate, hence the reason I thought of making my own channel.
that sir is as stipple brush, used for stencil and silk screening! I have an idea, which you can funk off or try, but I would definitely experiment with the idea! Try using a posca pen with small tip for the details. I have had great success with such, after the pen work is dry add your paint. Bravo on your work as always, thanks, Have been watching your videos over and over!
Thanks. I’ve worked and experimented with posca pens a lot but these details on this image are far too small to be able to achieve anything close with a posca pen even using the smallest 1M nib!
@@gelwithmark okey dokey, just thought I might suggest. I did not mean to suggest more stuff to the Master!
@@kateveneroso5754 suggest away, I don’t mind. 🙂
Hey Mark, I‘d like to share with you the knowledge of a wonderful brush: the Peter Woolley brush! It is actually named after the British watercolor artist (on RUclips too), and I’ve had the pleasure to attend a watercolor painting course in England by him last year. This brush can be used for stencils, but initially it was thought to be a special brush for Bokeh and other watercolor effects. Peter is almost embarrassed that it was named after him, but of course I had to get one. …. Mark, please Keep on doing your great innovative art and exploring the gel plate. Love your channel! I also made some videos since March this year, maybe you‘d want to have a look? Cheers from Berlin, Tina
Thanks for sharing. I’ll give your channel a look.
Awesome art! Waffle away --- it's always instructive!
Good, thanks 👍🏻
Excellent demonstrations, thank you so much.
Thanks. My pleasure.
This is fabulous. Thank you for sharing...
My pleasure
This video is one of my favorites. Absolutely beautiful! Please, try not to be so critical of yourself. I think you are a excellent gel print artist. I learn a lot from watching your videos.
Thank you for your kind words, it’s appreciated.
Now for something completely different! Brilliant Mark.
😂 a little bit! Thanks
Yeeeeeeooow! That's stunning. Mindblowing work!
Cheers 👍🏻
Brilliant! I love your original artwork...so detailed and fantastical! Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much!
Mark, I think the weird brush may have been a stencil brush!
Thanks
Waouh...that s complex!...excellent work bravo👏👏💫thank s .Bye from Paris🗼👋
Thanks. Yeah was a bit complex this one, I had a few problems but they were over come!
Amazing work!
Thank you, I appreciate it.
I use this method its excellent. you could transfer it to the gel plate, the laser print that is with gel medium. then onto the painting to get a better registration. I love your illustration style its quality. Ive tried this technique with a colour laser print and it works really well.
Thanks. How do you get the laserjet print to transfer to the gel plate??, do you mean from normal copy paper?
I tried adding gel medium to my plate and then placing the laserjet image on the sticker backing paper on top but the medium wouldnt dry and just remained wet and I couldn't get a transfer.
@@gelwithmark thinking about it you could just print these onto acetate. Laser Printer Acetate Film remember the stuff teachers used to use on school projectors. You'll then be able to register that pretty easily. Transfer it the same way using gel medium. Although I haven't tried this it will work the same.
@@stevemead4021 thanks for the tips, I’ll look into it, cheers!
Hi! Can yu share with us what that process looks like? What settings, paper, and did you transfer actual color? Or black n white on the color setting? Thanks again
Great videos! I think the brush is called a pouncer brush used for stenciling.
Thank you. That would make sense regarding the brush now that you’ve said that.
I definitely like the imperfections. Was your original drawing created digitally? Waffle on as much as you like. Your videos are very informative and I'm trying lots of your ideas. Perhaps Father Christmas will bring me a laser printer.... and some sticker paper. 😏
Make sure you put it on your Christmas list! Yes the image was a digital drawing of mine.
Love the art! An the imperfections make it even better i would say.
Thanks for watching.
Wow, you are amazing. Yes, my trys to Lazer print transfer have failed terribly. I will try this. Thank you.
Thanks. Let me know how you get on.
That looks amazing!
Thank you. It’s appreciated.
Cool video! Thanks for I’ve been using parchment paper for this kind of transfer for years. It’s easier to come by and cheaper than sticker paper if you don’t need the sticker. ❤
Thanks good to know 👍🏻
Oooooo.....parchment paper like the kind for baking? Do you ashere it to a carrier paper then run through the printer? Very intrigued...
@@carolynking5418 I guess so, like I’ve said I’ve not actually tried it myself. It would have to be an experiment for your self. Good luck
Omg I love this ❤
Thanks
Thank you Mark. You inspire. Can this method work with inkjet, I wonder??YES IT DOES ❤
Thanks. I didn’t know that.
@@gelwithmarkIt is more painterly than crisp, but at moment refining it. Absolutely love abd admire your work. ❤
@@lynnetteyoung6007 thank you. I greatly appreciate the compliment.
Thanks for sharing this technique. Am I right in seeing that in the final step it’s the laser printer ink that’s actually being transferred onto the painted image, and not actual paint, as is the case with the original laser copy/resist technique that so few people can get to work?
Thanks. Yes you are correct, I was just trying to find a way to get the image to transfer that was close to the look of the paint way. I know it’s not quite the same, but it’s an option.
As an alternative to the sticker backing paper, has anyone tried printing on the shiny side of freezer paper? I'm curious if the laser toner prints well enough on it.
If it works, it might be less expensive. (And also doesn't create an unwanted sticker to use up somewhere else.)
I use freezer paper as a disposable acrylic paint palette, so know the acrylic will peel of no problem when it's dry.
I think you will have to secure it with tape or something to normal copy paper to get it through your printer due to its flimsy nature, Ive tired experimenting with a heat transfer paper which is a similar weight as freezer paper but it doesnt seem to go through my printer with much success even when taping it down.
DON”T put freezer paper through a laser printer the heat will fuse it to the transport roller!!! Try using baking parchment or silicone release paper.
@@tonybounsall214 Thank you for the warning. So happy to now know, without having had to gain the knowledge through first hand experience. 🥵
That looks really cool Mark, love it, interesting techniques, thanks for the vid. Ps yeah I think it’s a stencil brush
Thanks.
Hello from Beautiful British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
Weird brush, deers foot, stenciling
👋🏻
Stippling brush maybe?
Maybe 🤔
I wonder if this image transfer method will work with ink jet prints
It won’t work on the sticker backing paper as the ink jet ink is too wet to print onto the backing paper, I’ve tried so I know it doesn’t work.
Could be either a stencil brush or a Bromoil Brush-an alternative photographic process
Most people thinks it’s the stencil brush.
It is a stencil brush 🙂
Thanks for the clarification.
@@gelwithmark i have a stencil shop in denmark 😂
Does shiny paper work like sticker paper?
I think you need to use some sort of wax or silicone paper for this to work and that also need to be able to go through your printer. I think some people have used grease proof paper that you use for baking, but I haven’t tried that myself.
Mark, I bought a shiny paper thinking I need it for laser transfers. It isn't photo paper but slick like the glossy foto papers. I'll give it a try! Thanks. 😀
Backing paper from sheets of labels was always my goto for this method but set the print quality to high. Bx
it´s a pastel brush
@@schwarz.malerin 👍🏻
@@gelwithmarkit is called a Deer foot Stippler Brush… Used for dry paint brush work (great for animal fur, faux fur, tiny tree leaves etc…) not for wet work… Load gently and gentle tapping works best… pouncing.
