A very nice and playful review. I read with both Wahoo Roam and Karoo 2 (but not at the same time) and I prefer the Karoo. Yes, I do use a SIM card, but it is really not necessary. My biggest problem with the Karoo is the battery life when I’m doing century rides. I have a 90-degree angle USB-C cord which I can use to charge the device while riding. All told, Karoo makes a great device and Hammerhead is a great company. Did I mention that they spent about an hour on video call with me listening to feedback? Try that with Wahoo or Garmin.
Brilliant, dare I say, a masterpiece of unfiltered adverbs and adjectives in a product review. You have found your calling. Me thinks its time to upgrade from my gen one Bolt.
I couldn't agree more on almost anything you said about the Karoo2 except for the mount, it might just be something you have to get used to after being brainwashed with quater turn mount and dismounting your bike computer. There is however one big plus for the Karoo2 system and that is when the hard buttons are used, and during winter that might just be the case, it is impossible to dismount your computer unwanted while trying to operate your computer with your numb cold fingers.
Monty, I'm never gonna get one of these, but I love your presentation style. I'd happily listen to you babble on about department-store bikes... or cooking supplies, or whatever.
I've been a happy Wahoo Bolt v1 user for a few years having switched from Garmin. I just now made another brand leap to the Karoo2. Helping my justification is the Wahoo is starting to have screen pixel issues plus Hammerhead have a trade in program where they will give me $100 for my Wahoo........Appreciate your video for having a solid mix of the important and useful vs Unicorn poo would be better if it had a 50 day battery and App addiction dopamine fix.....
A reviewer I can relate to. I love seeing the climb too. For the same reasons you do. I suck at climbing and I want to know when the suffering will be over.
Would buy one if they made it smaller and thus battery would also last longer. I get the larger screen is good for navigation but I barely use navigation. I always familiarise myself with my route beforehand and really only need queues and sometimes an overview of the map of what's ahead. And obviously 8 hour battery life is not good enough. I have been edging towards that in ride time, so with stopped time I am already well above that.
Getting back into cycling and am an older vintage MAMIL and loving your videos as I re-learn the cycling world. So in the end would you recomend this over the Wahoo? I certainly prefer it over the Garmin 840 considering features are similar, this is a larger screen and the pricing.
Mount failure is a problem with the Garmin mounts , which were designed for watches. Rather have to fight it off, than pick it up off the road. Tethers are your friend
Thanks for the review, entertaining and useful, as always ! Bummer about the loss of Di2...and I'm not sure what they mean with their bolded "all other Di2 features will continue working" (or something like that), er...what would these be ? CLIMBER looks nice on paper...however climbs mostly matter to me when I'm on a long outing in the mountains and in that case it's unlikely I wouldn't have a route programmed. But as with Wahoo products my "beef" is that I'd be losing the integration into the Garmin "fitness" ecosystem and "true-up" with my Forerunner running watch. As well as all the nifty ConnectIQ apps. A couple of years ago I went the Wahoo+Coros way and...went back to Garmin with the (admittedly clunky) Edge 530 and Forerunner 955. Guess they've got me !
I went from Garmin to wahoo, didn’t like Wahoo.. to basic for me so went back to Garmin 1040 & love it. It has so much more on offer around fitness & personally a better unit for me.
00:59 have you tried Neutrogena balm for your hands? it works for me in winter. Otherwise, they dry out and even bleed... so upsetting. Great review by the way.
Great overview - I'm looking for a back-up to my sometimes flaky Bolt V2 so this post appealed. On the product link to Wiggle that you provided it says it is still supporting Campagnolo EPS, SRAM eTap and Garmin Varia electronic systems so I wonder if Wiggle is out of date? I'm a big fan of the Varia and know you are too - does it pair with that OK?
Hi there. Yes, it pairs fine with the Varia. There are a couple of shots in the video where you can see it working (maybe in the battery close up section). Re: the electronic gears, it's only Shimano Di2 which isn't supported - SRAM eTap and (I assume) Campag EPS still work. The issue was on the Shimano side - not Hammerhead. So the Wiggle descriptions sounds as if it's correct.
HI Paul - it'll sort of fit in a Wahoo mount, but because their mounts are at 90 degrees to Garmin, this would put in 'landscape' orientation (which the Karoo doesn't do). I imagine they or someone will do a Wahoo conversion mount.
Oh, and I love your videos. Very entertaining and informative. I especially like how you just skip over all the fluff and get to the meat of your reviews!
Shame that now in 2024 there are still many Apps which only work on Garmin and even if App developers go non Garmin it will be Wahoo first. Karoo needs the Karoo 3 and another bumper upgrade to really make a dent in the Garmin dominated cycle computer world…sad but sticking to my Garmin because I have to.
Way too many issues with the Karoo 2. My first unit the screen would flicker and wouldn't stay on one page. My second unit elevation gain was wildly inaccurate. Going back to Garmin.
PLEASE read the may MANY posts on the Hammerhead forum about the continuous issues with re-routing in the navigation software Basically it just does not work, it keeps getting worse and worse with every update that HH launches. No matter if you are on the road, gravel, off-road or single-tracks it keeps failing. Many users are requesting an option to be able to turn rerouting off for months now, but HH is unwilling to implement this.
What you need to do is ignore the new route and what will happen is that the k2 will get you back on the original route in another words re-re-route.. ✌️
Yes. I find it generally works ok with my Castelli Perfetto gloves. Maybe not finer actions (typing words) but certainly swiping and pressing buttons on the screen.
After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.

I love my K2! It’s vastly superior to the Edge 1000 and 1030 units that I used previously. I am NEVER going back to Garmin.
Really! My edge 1000 is dead and I’m looking at the Karoo 2 atm 🧐
Rush fan? I’m getting my k2 today, I’m hoping it’s not too much, but the big screen sealed it
Just did my first ride with the Karoo 2 on a custom gravel/road route. Super little device. Smooth, fairly easy to set up. Really awesome to use.
Nice one. Glad it's working out for you.
Thank you for your work. I just watched 5 your videos in row.
Glad you like them!

Peak their is a work-around (di2) someones designed a side load app, search the HH community and you can get back gears and such like all di2 👍
Is it possible to use all of these but with the Jelly 2???
Dang, you a funny dude! Cheers buddy
I just showed up for the "whizz-banger-y"... yet all I got was Enlightened by Montys' Clarity leaking (@ 9:05)

Nasty battery life, btw great vid. Thanx.
£235, and you can sideload the shimano di2 support back on. Miles better than my previous Garmin.
okay I’m sold
Does the xtra mount work with wahoo as well?

Ah sorry about that Doug. Thanks for letting me know. I've updated to better links for US (Competitive Cyclist) and UK (Wiggle). Where are you based?

Overpriced such old hardware. Should not be more than 200 usd in 2024 this karoo2 version.
Can the touchscreen be operated while using full finger cycling gloves, or would the physical buttons need to be used?
Yes. I find it generally works ok with my Castelli Perfetto gloves. Maybe not finer actions (typing words) but certainly swiping and pressing buttons on the screen.
