  • This week, we do a full brake job on the 1995 Mercedes S320. Fairly easy in terms of complication, but some heavy lifting required…you can tell in the video that I’m getting pretty tired towards the end.
    Thanks for watching!

    What size are the caliper bolts, you didn't show the removal of the sensor....you skipped all sorts of stuff like how do squeeze a wrench in to get the rear calipers off.

      I believe they were 17 or 19mm. I showed as much as I could with the time I had to do the job as well as space constraints within which I was filming, so hopefully the video helps in some aspects. Thanks for watching!

    Awesome.. just in time for my brake job on 97 S320. Im still deciding which manufacture rotors and pads to go with..
    Pagid, Brembo and especially akebono pads seems to be the preferred choice, would be good to hear your feedback on your choice of rotors and pads after you drive for few weeks.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 лет назад

      I'd go with Pagid all around - the Brembos have no coating on the hats or around the OD of the rotor, so they corrode almost instantly (at least by the first time you wash the car after install). The Akebono pads are 100% the way to go though. I've been running the new setup for a month or so now and definitely recommend the setup, just swap the front Brembo rotors I used with Pagid front rotors instead.
      Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for your feedback. I heard good things about Akebono pads, never used them yet, but i priced them already.
      As for rotors am thinking Pagid or OPparts.

    Have you changed the brake caliper tire repair kit for your vehicle? My vehicle has the same caliper "3805/3". But I can't find which caliper repair kit to buy. Do you know the size of the caliper pistons?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  3 года назад

      No I've not, and I don't know what size piston these specific calipers have. You should be able to purchase the correct one from a dealership per your VIN number. Thanks for watching!

    Great video... You mentioned the torque spec for the front caliper bolts are 115NM... Do you happen to know the torque spec for the rear caliper bolts?... I cant seem to find this number anywhere,... Thanks!

      @redonKiLaus  3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately I don't, and I don't have a service manual to pull that info from. Gutentight is about where they should be...lol. I can't remember if they are the same thread size and pitch as front, but if they are, 115 is likely a safe number. Thanks for watching!

    Hi would you happen to know if the bleeder valves are the same on rear and front calipers? I'm afraid I mixed them up.. not leaking but still wondering.

    • @redonKiLaus

      That I don't know, although I believe the sizes (wrench) were the same so they likely are. Thanks for watching!

    How you would grade 1992-1998 w140 interms of its maintanence. ?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 лет назад

      In terms of maintenance demand or maintenance difficulty? Neither are terrible by the standards of German vehicles. My W140 in particular hasn't required a lot of maintenance other than catching up on wear and PM items not address by the previous owner. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that has broken, and it certainly hasn't left me stranded (although my sister's W163 ML just left her stranded this afternoon, and I had to come to the rescue in the W140).
      In my opinion it is not a difficult vehicle to work on either - as an engineer with a background in vehicles, the way everything is built makes sense to me. The most difficult parts of working on the vehicle are not breaking brittle interior plastics (Mercedes uses an ABS+PC blend, which is prone to breaking/cracking when flexed), as well as working on the heavy parts of the vehicle (the suspension springs are akin to those out of an F250 or other diesel truck, engine and transmission are heavy, etc).
      Overall, I recommend it, but it would be wise to have a backup vehicle.

    those front calipers look the same as the v8 and v12 ones,has this car had a brake upgrade

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 лет назад

      They are factory brakes, before my purchase the vehicle was serviced at the M-B dealership exclusively for the entire life of the car, and there is no invoice for caliper/rotor replacement during that time. I've not changed them, either. They are quite large for the 16" wheels - very little clearance!
      Thanks for watching!

      @@redonKiLaus i have only saw them on a 320 from japan before but that had amg wheels and maybe sports suspension,i think maybe they upgraded the brakes after a certain year,i am sure earlier 320s had smaller calipers,it also may be they are smaller pistons than the v8 and v12 cars though i am not sure,i do know that when i bought calipers for my v12 coupe it used the same calipers on the the v8 and v12 coupe or saloon but i couldn't use 320 calipers.so god knows

      @@raycroal Sounds like typical Mercedes - 1995/6 was the transitional year for lots of things on the 140s, including the wiring harness, so perhaps the brakes were one of those things as well.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  4 года назад

      4 piston yes, but I am not 100% sure on the diameter of the rotors. Process should be the same for all W140 models though. Thanks for watching!
