    Hi Tim, are there special requirements for importing seafood into the us? Perhaps you’ve had a video on it? Thanks in advance

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  17 дней назад

      Thank you for the note. In addition to the FSMA and the various standards for safe and wholesome food imports, there are rules on safe fishing practices that must be followed.
      The seafood must be sourced from fisheries that comply with sustainable fishing practices.
      Local government regulations, including quotas and restrictions on certain species, must be adhered to.
      Importers should ensure that the seafood is legally harvested and meets international conservation standards.
      Proof of compliance with local and international fishing regulations may be required during the import process.
      This is a general list and if we can assist, reach out.

      @TimForrestConsulting  2 месяца назад

      @@suedi-annhamilton6032 Hi there! To get customers in the USA for your yellow yams and Scotch bonnets from Jamaica, start by researching areas with high Caribbean communities. Ensure you comply with US FDA regulations and obtain necessary paperwork. Build relationships with produce distributors and ethnic food retailers. Create an attractive spec sheet and know and sell only the best Grades. Participate in trade shows and use online platforms like Amazon to reach a wider audience. Partner with local Caribbean restaurants and specialty stores for better exposure. Good packaging and branding will also help attract customers. Best of luck!

    Hi Tim. I am farmer from Peru. I farm avocados. How can I export my product to the US?

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  5 месяцев назад

      You seem well-informed about the opportunities and challenges of exporting avocados from Peru to the United States. Currently, 500,000 MT of avocados originate from Peru for the US. Considering your production scale, working with established exporters in Peru could be a good first step. If you're thinking about exporting directly to U.S. buyers, adhering to U.S. import regulations, food safety standards, and labeling requirements is key.
      Here are some important points for ensuring your product meets U.S. standards:
      Comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA): Make sure your farming and processing practices meet FSMA standards. This includes the Produce Safety Rule for safe growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of fruits and vegetables.
      Labeling Requirements: Proper labeling is crucial for successful food import into the U.S.
      Network with U.S. Buyers: Understanding U.S. buyers' needs can help you adjust your production and export strategies.
      Manage Logistics and Customs Clearance: Plan your export logistics, including choosing reliable freight forwarders and navigating the U.S. customs clearance process. Prepare all necessary documentation and ensure your products comply with U.S. import requirements. Be ready for customs and FDA inspections.
      Given the process's complexity, consulting with food export and import regulation experts like Tim Forrest Consulting can offer customized advice and support.
      For detailed advice on FDA food labeling or other regulatory compliance aspects, feel free to ask.

    • @TimForrestConsulting

      Great ambition! Key US import regulations involve the FDA and FSMA for food safety. Also, check USDA for agriculture specifics, Import Seafood Compliance Program, COOL requirements, and CBP for entry requirements. Don't forget the prior notice requirement. Compliance is crucial. Good luck!

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  Год назад +1

      Yes, the FDA is involved with all food products coming in the United States. You will need to conform to all rules and regulations provided by the FDA, CBP, and USDA to import your product. The quantity does not impact the rules beyond the limit on brining product into the US for personal use. If it's commercial, you must follow the rules regardless of amount, samples/no charge, or delivery by auto, truck, rail, ship, or plane via Fedex or DHL etc.. My hope is this helps. Thank you.

    Any special requirements for importing coffee beans?

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for your note, Truth. There are many areas to discuss with coffee and I'll share several related to the container. Each project is specific and there is no general answer to your question that is accurate and complete without much more information.
      Are you using bulk containers vs. smaller, more manageable packages?
      Use of food-grade liners within containers to prevent contamination.
      Containers designed for temperature and humidity control to maintain coffee quality.
      Container Seals:
      Are you aware of or reviewing the integrity of container seals to prevent unauthorized access and ensure sanitary conditions.
      Container History:
      Prior usage of containers (e.g., chemicals) that might contaminate the coffee or rules that prevent usage of the container type in question. Is the container new and is it required for this specific project?
      What are the cleaning and sanitization records of the containers.
      Impurities and Non-Coffee Matter:
      Did you the processor screen for common contaminants such as stones, sticks, and metal fragments.
      What measures did the supplier utilize to prevent biological contamination of the coffee (mold, bacteria)?
      Pest Control:
      Ensuring containers are free from pests that could damage the coffee or be considered a quarantine concern.
      Regulatory Compliance:
      Are the containers in question in compliance with FDA regulations regarding container safety and suitability for food products and coffee?
      Import documentation must accurately reflect the container type and condition.
      Transit Considerations:
      Impact of transit conditions (temperature fluctuations, humidity) on container choice.
      Use of containers that can withstand rough handling and long transit times.
      Packaging Materials within Containers:
      Is your supplier in compliance with regulations on packaging materials in direct contact with the coffee?
      Traceability:
      Ability to trace the coffee back to its source, including the type of container used during shipping. Are you preparing for the rule changes on traceability and batch or lot codes?
      Hope this provides some value in your efforts and review. Upcoming, I'll share the top 10 reasons for denial of entry at the port. This will make for an excellent checklist to verify that all is being handled correctly.
      Regards,
      Tim

    I am planning to register a llc company in united states.
    Am i eligible to get FDA,

      As an international citizen, you can register your plant with the FDA, provided it falls under the FDA's jurisdiction for food facilities. Are you currently set-up to supply food to US consumers? If your facility is outside the U.S., you must appoint a U.S. Agent who will act as a communication link between your facility and the FDA. The U.S. Agent must reside in the U.S. The agent would maintain a place of business in the U.S. We do offer this service if you desire discussing your situation. www.timforrestmarkets.com

    I want to import frozen food (fully cooked chicken), from Asia. Is it possible for me to buy their product and resale here in America?

      @TimForrestConsulting  Год назад

      Thanks, Tony. Yes, the USDA has declared that all poultry and duck products that are fully cooked are eligible to be imported into the United States. The product will have been manufactured under good practices and meet all requirements, documentation, processing, and security. There is much to organize. Can you please give me the details of "What if your product got rejected by FDA reviewer?" Please tell me what type of steps or methods I have to take to reverse this decision. It's for my project. Please help

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  5 месяцев назад +1

      If denied entry, you typically have two options: pay for the FDA and port authority to dispose of the product or arrange for its return to the country of origin. For products deemed dangerous, destruction is usually mandated. Before you receive a denial, they do request information to determine what is necessary. If the rejection is due to fixable issues, take care of the issue immediately, if given time submit a detailed plan and timeline for corrective actions.

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely! Before starting any food imports to the US, ensure your facilities have their FDA # and provide prior notice of shipments. While the FDA doesn't approve food imports upfront, they must meet and document US safety and labeling standards. Be sure to follow the detailed food import procedures and compliance with FDA, USDA, and other agencies to avoid denial of entry. I just recorded a video today on the 10 most likely areas to generate an FDA denial of entry. It should be up in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

    Hello Tim does it cost any money to get FDA paperwork?

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  7 месяцев назад

      Hi there, Andrea! Great question. Generally speaking, there are little to no direct fees associated with FDA paperwork for standard submissions. However, it's important to understand that the real cost often lies in complying with FDA regulations and requirements. This includes expenses related to creating new SKUs and labels specifically for the U.S. market, as well as costs that may arise if your product faces entry denials. Additionally, fees or fines can be incurred for any non-compliance or documentation errors.
      A significant challenge is also the potential delay and time investment required. Just last week, two food companies contacted us for help when faced with issues at the port. Their products were held up and refused entry due to process errors. This not only leads to delays but can also incur additional costs. In essence, while the paperwork itself might not be costly, ensuring compliance and avoiding pitfalls in the process can be where the real expenses and challenges lie.

    Good morning thank you for the information provided. I just opened an African store here in Virginia (USA) and sell food imported from Ivory Coast. We bought the products at the local market in Ivory Coast and find people who imported to the USA. Now I'm thinking of exporting myself to reduce cost. Since I bought the products at the local market, how will that be compliance with the FDA?

    • @TimForrestConsulting
      @TimForrestConsulting  Год назад

      Great question. Yes, you are correct that the products you're selling in Virginia are very likely out of compliance with the rules and laws on importing food into the United States. Do you sell enough product in your store to offset the demands, reporting, paperwork, administration, and effort to go through the reporting process. Do you want to be responsible for getting the products here from the Ivory Coast and also responsible for how the products are safely manufactured in Africa? It's a tremendous amount of responsibility and effort. Will the reward and savings offset this work?

      Great to hear about your venture into freeze-dried survival food. Yes, the requirements for freeze-dried products differ from raw ones, as freeze drying is considered a form of processing. You'll need to consider specific regulations for processed foods, including packaging, labeling, and food safety standards. Curious about navigating these requirements?
