I got GPS rescue working on my diatone Roma but when it comes back it is in weird angles like when a mother drags a kid around by the ear. Its a 4 wire GPS, no compass. I'm wondering is my GPS oriented wrong? I would think even without compass it would still tilt forward to move because of the accelerometer..
hey pawel i bought a bn 220 gps for my nazgul 5 v2 but i never get a satelite, i check in betaflight and my gps is communicating normally with the fc Also my gps get really hot after i plugged the quad really fast what you think, maybe a bad gps unit? love your videos, they help me a lot
Good points. I would add that ground plane is also important. It should be at least wider than the ceramic part of antenna:) I like matek modules, since they do them right.
I never had any issue with 3 diferent BN-180 modules as long as they are mounted far from the drone frames, always getting pretty fast GPS lock and at least 15 sats
Hi, I'm building a rc plane and i've orded a f722-wpx but now that I've got it, Are the scl and sda pins seperate? as in can I use compass on the gps connnector (bn880) and digital airspeed sensor (mateksys one). kind regards!
Does INAV support RTK? Presumably there are no COTS GPS modules that support the M-mode for 10 times higher chip rate (military always gets the best 😮💨)
It's three times the price of a rdq/tbs/HGLRC/Flywoo gps. Its the most expensive gps in most online shops today. I don't how it's the sweet spot for value. Its good no doubt. But it's not a value proposition
@@jumpstartfpv It is less than two times the cost of the GNSS modules you're referring to ($30 vs $16-20) and you're getting an excellent GNSS. I think most people can stretch their budget by $10-14 for a vastly superior GNSS module. I'd cut cost somewhere else, but like I said this is just my opinion.
The most common question for me - which gps module, that has magnetrometr is the the most protected (shielded), i.e. less susceptible to the influence of steel objects in the vicinity. As I now, all use qmc/hms5883 , is any alternatives ?
By definition, a magnetometer cannot be shielded as it has to detect Earth's magnetic field. You have to put it as far as possible from high power lines like motor, ESC, etc.
And for the follow-up, please work through real world examples of the paraments you specified (size, generation), and say how you expect them to work because of those parameters, and then include real data when possible.
I dont know which one is the best one, but I know what is the worst one I ever had. Worst gps modul, and just waist of money for me is the: Matek M8Q-can
There is a best sensor for each application. I dislike this long theoretical video. One should know what are the minimum requirements for specific use of a module and then decide what to get. Also with or without compass!
@@M-H433 Yes, this is true. When originally expressing my dislike I was not sure from where my bad feelings are coming from. I like Pawel. Yes, I do. In my opinion this kind of presentation should not be monotonous linear talk show. It might be better to use some schematics representations, drownings, in one word presentation slides like PowerPoint or any similar. List all the properties, describe them one by one with proper schematics, and give a tabulated conclusion at the end. I do not object on overall content nor spoken text. It just gets boring watching the single bearded head for 14 min. Also at the end I lost count of all the important points. Hope that next video will be more practical, shorter and picturesque.
the beitan chips m80xx don't have SAW filter or additional LNA. The SAM-M8Q does

Pawel you are a great guy keep it coming we need to know this stuff.
Thank you, I will
I have a better GPS with compass but I want to understand this one first. I want to switch to inav when I upgrade the GPS.
Hi sir my GNSS M8Q CAN doesnt power up when i connect from my laptop even after enabling Can_p1 driver and can_d1 protocol,gps_type UAVCAN what to do
what is the protocol these gps communicate with the FC? NMEA? will the new M9P ublox communicate the same way over I2C ?
NMEA is obsolete. UBLOX protocol is recommended
@@FPVUniversity sparkfun has rtk ublox breakout board with serial Tx/Rx. This will be recognized by flight controller?

Man I love the way he says GPS with that accent
The you should love the way I say "brzęczyszczykiewicz" as well :)
Pretty interesting indeed, Pawel! Thanks a lot! 😊

I'm placing on micro quad. How far away can I get from frame? 😂 it will have to be right over the FC. I guess this may not work.

Thanks for another great video! Good knowledge to have. I put gps on almost everything :)
Curious to see your test results. Running matek sam-m8q with F765-wing and INAV. I am quite happy so far.
@@Drone-Pilot good to hear
@@Drone-Pilot My one just got crazy. It was working ok for some months, but some weeks ago the compass got crazy.
Which one is the best, Ublox or NMEA?
Ublox
I really like my Matek GNSS modules. The M8Q-5883 is in the sweet spot for value, in my opinion.

Please compare the BN-220 vs. BN-220T. The "T"-models have a thicker antenna, the technical data is the same.
Thank you for your insights!
Any way one could replace the ceramic antenna by something lighter/ better?

The best GPS I've seen was on prebuilts form the like of SwellPro and DJI.
With the BN220 I get 11 sats on my terrace and with the BN220T 15 sats and faster.
