It is extremely obnoxious that they put these mechanics in without a way for the game to explicitly explain how to use them. Similar to EV/IV implementation in early pokemon, fucking annoying to scour the internet and learn about.

I agree, the way that this is presented in game, compared to the actual impact, makes it seem more like a bug. In no circumstance should placing items next to each other result in worse performance, unless that's explicitly mentioned in the game.

Videos such as this one showcase how a complex game like no mans sky could really benefit from a in-game tutorial and much better encyclopedia. I am convinced they do what they do to have this wonderful community around the game, that share ideas, secrets and tutorials, but still. A lot of basic game mechanics are either not explained at all or just in passing and often in hidden ways.
I haven't played the game for 4years and started playing it again and I am relearning everything....

I started to figure this all out a bit in my first Exotic ship while toying around with hyperdrive enhancements. I discovered loosely that, using the same adjacent slots, I could vary the total hyperdrive range greatly just by altering the arrangement of the bus within the same group of slots. With the boosts I have equipped, my jump range was as low as 1500-odd LY and my current peak range of about 2109 LY. Gotta say, it makes plowing toward galaxy centers a lot more effective if I happen to be shunning black holes for whatever reason. Sometimes, repeatedly accessing the Anomaly causes severe lag and hangups, so it's nice to be able to make a decent chunk of progress without having to cause myself as much headache.

For me what worked best, is placing the starting technologies like Healt support system, Poison protection system, Jetpack etc in the supercharged slots. Because they all count as 100% and you get 25% a bonus through supercharged slots. I surrounded them by matching support items, they will start glowing if you place 3 adjustant. It doesnt matter if they are in a line, top or bottom but they should be connected. After that I placed different matching rows close to each other which improve the same stats. For example Health support technology increasing fuel + jetpack technologie increasing health chamber + poison protection increasing fuel etc... If it works they will start glowing in 2 different colors, like a switching rainbow. And even if you have 1 technology close to a row it will benefit from the row boost. I placed 1 jet fuel technology close to a different technology row and it almost doubled my flying time.

You mention the 'core module' as being the one to which the various boni are applied, but I missed where you define what the 'core module' actually is. Is it dependant upon placement (eg central part of a cross); its bonus rating (eg greater vs lesser); how the additive/multiplicative totals are affected by their final numbers (unlikely but possible I guess) or something else entirely?

Have you released anymore content in this regard? I looked through your channel a bit and have yet to see anything about the stats themselves. This does give me a good step off point to do my own testing tho, so thank you!

The last 2 updates heavily changed a lot of stats so kind of reset a bunch of my research, they are still coming, I've just had to redo a bunch of stuff

And then there's me, who made mine adjacent because the OCD said I must organize the slots.

That's not OCD, that's basic organization. OCD would be continually moving everything repeatedly regardless of anything making sense. That's like saying, "I'm so OCD I have to have two pieces of bread for a sandwich because then it's balanced."

Oh great I must be a moron. I’m more confused now than before watching this.
Is there a video focusing on ‘strength rating’? How do I know which is greater and which is lesser? Is it better to keep lesser together and have greater on the outskirts or have lesser surrounding a greater? Meaning is 3x lesser 2x greater better than 6x lesser?
Regardless of my confusion thanks for the video

Good video. I thought that as long as you had the border you were fine, now I see that layout matters.
    Looking forward to the rest.
