Thos is truly great work. There is absolutely zero explanation or even mention of the adjacency stuff in game. I didn't even realize it was a thing until I had played a really long time. I just happened to notice the colored borders and looked closely at it.
As a new player, unaware about how these things actually work, I have randomly put couple of S-rank scanner upgrades next to each other and now, I am getting 150 thousand units per single plant/mineral/animal scan. Every visit on a new planet automatically equals couple of millions in units. I love the game.
Thank you so much for these videos! I just got into the game and have so many questions and you flawlessly answer them without leading me down rabbit holes or ignoring details!
Thank you. I’m an old NMS player..both chronologically and have played since day 1. Thank you for dissecting the tech for us. Didn't know about the strength Stat. Awesome! Edit: It shows you how Hello games and specifically Sean are intelligent individuals.
I started to figure this all out a bit in my first Exotic ship while toying around with hyperdrive enhancements. I discovered loosely that, using the same adjacent slots, I could vary the total hyperdrive range greatly just by altering the arrangement of the bus within the same group of slots. With the boosts I have equipped, my jump range was as low as 1500-odd LY and my current peak range of about 2109 LY. Gotta say, it makes plowing toward galaxy centers a lot more effective if I happen to be shunning black holes for whatever reason. Sometimes, repeatedly accessing the Anomaly causes severe lag and hangups, so it's nice to be able to make a decent chunk of progress without having to cause myself as much headache.
My biggest gripe about nms is the lack of information in game about how things work. I end up spending just as much time looking crap up online as I do playing. And god forbid you take a few months off. Good luck remembering anything.
Every time i watch this type of video, i'm like "oh yeah, i see, i should be placing my upgrades this way", and then i'm like "mmh... I don't know mate" xD Would be awesome to have some examples of agency with in game footage to show your points on what is the best way to place it ^^

haha, nah man, the hard deadline was so i could also cover Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, I wanna get my variety on this year, but I'm not about to abandon NMS to do it :) I have zero insider info
For me what worked best, is placing the starting technologies like Healt support system, Poison protection system, Jetpack etc in the supercharged slots. Because they all count as 100% and you get 25% a bonus through supercharged slots. I surrounded them by matching support items, they will start glowing if you place 3 adjustant. It doesnt matter if they are in a line, top or bottom but they should be connected. After that I placed different matching rows close to each other which improve the same stats. For example Health support technology increasing fuel + jetpack technologie increasing health chamber + poison protection increasing fuel etc... If it works they will start glowing in 2 different colors, like a switching rainbow. And even if you have 1 technology close to a row it will benefit from the row boost. I placed 1 jet fuel technology close to a different technology row and it almost doubled my flying time.
As much as math hurts my brain, I think I can manage to learn from this. Might need to rewatch a few times. Got my rifle's damage potential up to >6,600 on my own. Gonna be messy, but I'm sure I can improve the layout to squeeze even more DPS out of it.
