Hey everyone! I hope you enjoy this long-form conversation with Nouriel Roubini. This is Nouriel's second appearance on the show. We get into the near-term macro picture as well as the medium-to-longer-term risks, which he's dubbed Megathreats. Let me know who else you'd like to see on the show in the comments below. And be sure to hit the like button, subscribe, and ring the notification bell to stay up to date with all of my episodes and help me reach more folks. I appreciate you all! 💙Julia
Thank you for bringing Dr. Roubini to the show. He is a brilliant professor. Julia, your show just keeps getting better and better as you bring more of these high-profile, world-renowned thinkers.
Wow, wow, wow. What he says about deaths of despair and the lack of self worth from being a non-productive member of society is so spot on. Some of my friends are on this path unfortunately. Dead end jobs, drug use during the work week, video games, no relationships. It's depressing!
He still can't let new information shape his views - he just can't make the leap. He thinks that his first opinion is his best. Without mental nimbleness - I discount much of what he says.
By his last comment on AI robots show me how well his understanding of the forces impacting the economy. As someone that works on AI I can recognize someone that knows what he talks about!!
His comment re: Climate Change May not be his personal view, but the Costs associated with implementing the “switch” from Oil/Gas/Coal to other less efficient energy sources, which WILL cost trillions.
Re: S.S. In Australia if you were born after a certain date, you no longer receive their S.S. equivalent. Their “solution” is a mandatory contribution in individual accounts for each worker, which on paper seems to be great. But...in a potential massive decline in stocks/bonds - what happens then? There are No Schemes that are applicable in every situation. But the automatic 8% increase in Federal spending every year is not sustainable. Start there First.
In our field (Healthcare) AI has had a somewhat positive though unpredictable impact - maybe 2-5% in productivity whch will all be achieved via layoffs
Interesting show with pertinent questions being asked.( Maybe that prominent microphone could be ditched for something more discrete so it doesn't seem that Julia's speaking in a radio station booth, even though she remains immensely charming).
Well, glad to see you've shown appreciation to its donor by using it. A peripheral question that you might not be bothered answering: is that a real ( 🌴) plant behind you? I infer your guest may also have been curious in view of his professed environmental concerns. @@TheJuliaLaRocheShow
As a plant lover It almost had me fooled. Fake money....fake AI imagery....now fake plants. In the contrasting world of authenticity and humility, have you had or plan to have Peter Grandich on your channel? @@TheJuliaLaRocheShow
Hey Julia! I would love to debate this man about the climate and how it effects global economics. I purport this guest has no idea what he is talking about and his rhetoric only harms humanity.
Climate change politics and UBI is dangerous. The example that I use is the welfare system. I know people who use the system and being in enough to live “ well” with buying cars, paying for club sports for children while we the tax payers pay for it. They are not as happy as I am . We were created by The Creator to create and work. It is a blessing to go out and provide for a family. In the Bible, we are commanded to work hard and provide for our own way while being ready to help someone truly in need. He has some good points but when you go down the evolutionary path for reasoning, you take out the “ loving your neighbor” by doing well towards them. Survival of the fittest doesn’t work in community. The weak get eaten. No bueno. I prefer to hold people accountable as you “ teach them to fish”. As a past coach, when you hold players accountable while having expectations works. The key is to teach them to play or work for “ the love of the game”. Challenge them to see what they can do through the gifts that God has given them to be stewards of. Thanks Julia
Holocene Vostok ice cores 11,600 years ago till today show the earth has been warmer than today fourteen times, and the rate of warming has been faster than today seventeen times. CO2 is at historic lows, is plant food, is logarithmic meaning its impact decreases as concentrations increase and frankly the earth would benefit enormously from a tripling of CO2 from the current 420ppm to 1200ppm. So in short, this man does not know what he is talking about. I am moving on to the next guest.
Question: if there is "no substantial difference between Bidens immigration policy & Trumps why has illegal immigration increased from 700/mo to 200,000+/mo? Some of his facts & figures are just patently ridiculous, inclyding immigration & climate change. Lost a lot of credibility with me here.
Man this guy is dumb. He's fixated on cherry picking stats to prove his own bias. His view on BTC is hilarious, all he talks about is "it's down from the peak of $69K". Well guess what "professor", that's how the market works. Does he think a commodity or an equity should always be at it's all-time high? Does he have no conception of long term trends? It's incredible anyone still listens to this bag of air. And by the way, BTC is at $86K today. Imagine if you followed his advice this entire time. You'd be broke.

Great guest, great interview!

Thanks for inviting this guy I really like watching his interviews
Good interview. The guests addressing longer term issues is valuable. It'd be interesting to here you do something similar with Nassim Taleb.
At least he has the decency to open up with an admission that he was wrong in his previous predictions.
He predicted the GFC!
Thanks, Noriel thanks for your wisdom? 😊

Great stuff, great guest!
Great questions! Excellent work! Thanks!
Really interesting perspective! Thank you both!!

We are headed toward GFC#2 - there is no way out
The story of no recession is only because of government spending. With out that there is not recession but depression.
great interview
Re: S.S.

When he gets bullish, time to get bearish
Great interview! Wonder if you can invite Robert Schiller to your show?
He's a dream guest for sure! Would love to have Dr. Shiller on.
In our field (Healthcare) AI has had a somewhat positive though unpredictable impact - maybe 2-5% in productivity whch will all be achieved via layoffs
Nouriel stays bearish for years but SPY continue going up up up...
The BitCoin comments were hilarious!
And Absolutely True!
But Nouriel! Tell us what it really is!
Shit Coin ! YES YES YES ! Awesome show !!!

Aww! I love my microphone though. It was a birthday present. 🎁
