Wawa would completely wipe 7/11 off the map if it went nation wide. It already happened in the most the states with Wawa...

Wawa has such a special place in my heart its insane. As a resident in South Jersey where I have like 20 wawa's within 10 miles of me, I can say that it is my far the only store that means something to me. Ive grown up going there, and as I've gotten older and got my license, Ive gone a ton more. I've probably been to wawa 300 times in the past 2-3 years. Wawa is LIFE.

I live in Delaware County, Pa ad we have plenty of WaWa’s around. They are convenient for milk, snacks and of course their fresh made sandwiches. While Some people have commented your local neighborhood deli may make a better hoagie it will most likely cost more. But for fast service and fresh food in a clean store you can’t beat WaWa. By the way I traveled around the state of PA for my job and did patronize several other chain dairy stores like,Turkey Hill, and Sheets as well as other regional chains. I found Sheets to be the most like WaWa and they also make fresh sandwiches, coffee and have locally produced fresh milk. So it is interesting when you start to travel further away from Philadelphia and sometimes see a new WaWa near the other local areas chain operator. All of them defiantly beat 7-11 when it comes to quality and service.

I'm at Wawa at least 6 times a week...usually every day. For you kids, Wawa used to sell lunch-meat. You could order a half-pound of cheese, turkey, or whatever they sold at the deli. More people went there for lunch-meat than hoagies at one point! Usually have great hoagies BUT it all depends on who makes them...hate when they don't "tuck-in" the toppings and the damned thing falls apart! I met the CEO about a year ago....forget his name & too lazy to look it up, but he was an older gentleman and very nice & down-to-earth! I wish I had the money for a franchise!

WaWa delivered their milk well into the 1970's. They didn't stop in the early 1960's. They were still using glass bottles for deliveries in 1974. The clanging of the bottles would wake me up around 3AM. Today's WaWa sure has changed & IMO not for the better. What separated them from other convenience stores was fresh sliced meats & cheeses. WaWa was the place to go for cold cuts. Sadly, they removed all the slicers from their stores and now their meats are received pre-sliced. WaWa was the place to go for fresh Italian rolls as well but that ended too. Now there's the WaWa hoagie which 20 years ago was good but still fell short of family-owned sandwich shops that can make a hoagie that puts anything Wawa produced to shame. Those shops still make them the same way while WaWa' hoagies have gone downhill. Years ago, if you ordered a hoagie at a Wawa, its deli workers cut the lunchmeat to order. Now, they reach into the refrigerator for a pre-cut slab of dried-out ham, salami, and provolone. There isn’t any neighborhood or town or suburb in the Delaware Valley that doesn’t offer several tastier and fresher alternatives than WaWa.

Can you please tell me what neighborhood you lived in that they were still delivering milk to your house in the '70s ?
I grew up in Delco and I don't think our milk was delivered by them but I do remember milk being delivered maybe until 1964 or 5 ? We had milk and eggs delivered ... can't recall who it was .
I remember that first convenience store in Folsom ... and then there was one at the intersection of Garrett Road and Burmont in Drexel Hill .
I never bought any Hoagies from them ... we had some really great sandwich shops in my neighborhood .
I do believe what you're saying about their sandwiches being subpar after they stopped having their own slicers .
I think I have a vague recollection of getting a container of meatballs and sauce there and buying the rolls .
Have you ever been to Wawa Rd down off Baltimore Pike out past Media ? It was right near the Franklin Mint .
When I was a kid there would actually be cows on that hill grazing ... and eventually less cows and then finally no cows .
Oddly enough they boomed and started expanding after they no longer had cows that you could see grazing in the area .
They certainly did have some marketing geniuses working there that's for sure .
About 11 years ago I was living in the Tampa area and could not believe there was this huge Wawa there with gas pumps and I realized wow now they're selling gas ?
They must be even bigger than I thought because I was just watching a former professional Thief and he mentioned 7-Eleven and Wawa ... this was on the Vanity Fair channel and I thought really is Wawa THAT BIG NOW ?

@@gardensofthegods I lived in the same township as WaWa which was Middletown Township although our address was listed as Media, I lived a couple of blocks from the Drivers examination testing site. We actually had Sealtest milk delivered but all my neighbors had WaWa delivered milk and eventually bread. I originally lived in Holmes but we moved in 1959. We also had an egg and bread delivery. I think the bread was Bond. I remember in 1971 we used to camp out. We didn't really but that was what we told our parents. We used to drive around early morning looking for a WaWa milk truck to deliver fresh milk, then run up to the house and grab it. Once we found a house that got chocolate milk we kept coming back until one morning when the homeowner turned the porch light on the second I put my hand on the bottle What classic memories.

Can Wawa just come to New York already? Or are they worried their stores'll get burned down by the mob?

    • @stephenharris8221
      @stephenharris8221 5 лет назад +1

The main reason Wawa isn't in New York is that Wawa insists on owning the property where their stores sit on. In NYC the cost would be astronomical to purchase the land. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wawa move into New York State above NYC, hell they are building more and more stores in North Jersey all the time. If you are in NYC the closet Wawa is just on the other side of the GWB in Hackensack, Newark, Elizabeth, etc. The one in Hackensack is less than a half hour away from Mid-Town. All that being said I think that Wawa in the 5 boros would kill the bodegas and that people in the city would resent that they destroyed all of the independent (mostly immigrant) store owners. It's kinda the argument that New York City Council made when they denied Walmart from coming into the City.
