Slim is a bloody legend. Over 100 albums and toured continuously for 50 years. He went to many small towns that nobody else would even consider going to.
My late father-in-law was a singer and guitarist who loved to play Slim's songs. He developed dementia that meant he stopped recognising people and had difficulty communicating. He eventually went into aged care. The day he was moved in, there was a Slim Dusty movie on in the lounge area. While he lost the ability to communicate in any coherent way, he immediately sang every word and formed every chord on a guitar that wasn't there. Music is such a powerful form of communication.
Hey Mike...Slim was an legendary Aussie and a terrific bloke as I found out years ago when I met him. 🤗 Also Waltzing Matilda is our unofficial National Anthem 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍 Another magic Slim number is " I'm going back to Yarrawonga" and even Anthea may agree with that 🤗
There wasn't much country music in my life except for occasional country dances as a child, I can see what you mean about the easy warmth, and enjoyed the violin! I'm sure Slim would have had a space for you around the campfire Mike! 🤗 Delegate your jobs! 👍
It's not just the auditory pleasure that Slim provides with his music but also Slims ability to paint the scenes within your mind that enhances the entire experience. The storytelling ability of this great man added such an incredible personal, visual experience to every verse that he sang. This ensured that you never just listened to Slim sing a song, but rather you lived the experience right alongside Slim and his horse in the dusty Australian bush, feeling the sun and smelling the gum trees.
Heres a few more you might enjoy from Slim, Mike, A scrap with a buck kangaroo The grandest homestead of all No bids for the bay, Only the two of us here, and soooooo many more😂😂😂
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in my hometown of Bendigo Victoria Australia many, many years ago. Still one of my favourite concert. My late dad loved him so I was brought up with this type of music. Coincidentally I've also seen John Williamson live in concert, another of your favourites!! ( Oh, also John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes live in concert too so we have some great taste in music. 😊)
Just for reference, @ about 4 minutes a Jumbuck is a sheep, and he was stealing it, putting it into his tuckerbag( a food sack for want of better words😂)
G'day Mike, I often hear people playing loud misic in my neighbourhood, Slim can often be heard. Here is a Poem by A.B.(Banjo) Paterson put into song by Slim Dusty. Look this up on YT, "The Man from Snowy River: The Poem, The Song, The Movie." This is put together from clips out of the movie, You will enjoy watching it (the clip and the Movie) but you might need to take notes and ask us to explain various terms used, things like events and locations. The film is set in what is called "The High Country". However I believe much is filmed at a lower elevation to what I think of as High Country. It has some fantastic sceenery. As great as this would be for you to listen to, I think you need to listen to another Poem from A.B.(Banjo) paterson first. Tnis version is fron the actor that played Clancy in the movie. Look up on YT, "Jack Thompson reading Clancy of the Overflow from The Man from Snowy River"
Thanks for playing my request Mike!. I like old stuff, Rock, pop, some selective new music and rap and hip hop.. and country as well! I think Aussies who grew up in the 70's and 80's in Australia were lucky because we lived in a time when every music genre was available to us on the radio and on the popular TV show "Countdown"!!

Good on ya, Greg. Thanks for all your requests.

The best most stirring version is John Williamson at the 1999 Rugby World Cup , when the crowd gets involved

Merry Christmas Mike and family!
Slim Dusty is an Australian Icon.
You reacted to John Farnham’s version at the 1989 AFL grand final 😊
Hey Mike... makes sense, winding down to retirement. No point getting involved in too many cases that you will have to hand over later.
exactly my friend
Written in 1895 by Banjo Paterson.
Mike. Don't do today, what you can put off until tomorrow.😁
