That topper logo is me haha! The redesign looks great! and yes after some time passing i also have come to realise it's not a good logo 😂
I like yours better tbh. I don’t really like the whole concept of making everything so simple nowadays. We need some cooler looking logos to catch the eye and make life less boring.
@@dftoons However, the complicated logos are often not easily scalable which would be important for promotional gifts or clothing (embroidered caps). I like something like the British flag which you can recognize when it's in a rear light, like on the new Mini generation. Our German flag has only three colors one below the other. This would be unsuitable for a design like the rear light. Simple logos that are also memorable are important. It is often not possible to pack an entire company portfolio into one logo.

The Topper icon reminds me a lot of the Cloud 9 logo
Have to admit, there was something intriguing about the dot within the slighted question mark at 7:55 I really liked, something that could become an animated element within the logo(eg: Extend outward as a rounded search box)

The Topper logo was nice and it looked like a T if you rotated it a certain way. I'm sure the Quora idea would've worked with more fiddling because I liked that idea too.

I’m so curious! When do you know how literal to take a design and when to simplify or abstract a design? It’s so cool to see how you make changes to designs.
Good question! I suppose it depends on the brief and usability as well as experience, it can be difficult to get right!
QUESTION for professionals out there: When designing a logo do you ditch the punctuation? I'm working on a logo and I've just been stuck on whether or not to ditch the ' in MASTER'S I know other companies have ditched punctuation. I'm a baby designer but I think it looks cleaner and more modern without it. I think the shift between Master's and Masters' is what the company really means. They mean Masters' as a whole not a singular term but the correct punctuation really looks awkward in a logo. There is a word that follows Master's but I'm keeping their anonymity haha or mine ^_^ Basically is it bad to not add proper punctuation for the sake of the design?
I think as long as it reads properly and doesn't alienate the meaning of the company name. I always think about the target audience and how would they view it or read it. If you think that the logo without the apostrophe will still cause positive perceptions by the target audience then its probably worth it to ditch the apostrophe.
You can, if it looks good but if not most of the time i would say it is unnecessary. It is really up to you or the company

The topper design at first looked like the esports organization Cloud9 logo.

I love mine too! Had it on for ages now - I don't find that it wears down my Apple Pencil faster though, do you press down quite hard when sketching?

I think it looks really interesting! It might have helped to cut away a little less than a quarter, as well as bringing the dot a bit closer.

In the Quora logo, I feel like it may have looked better if you had cut out a 45° angle rather than a 90°. Just my opinion.

One question, can you add hyperlinks to a pdf in illustrator? So that the pdf has clickable images to take you to a google drive. I don’t believe so but thought I’d ask.

That Quora does not read as Quora. It looks like Puora. Maybe the rest of the Q could be there, but 50% saturation? That way it reads but still has the ? element.

With the cloud one, I am always leery about designing anything that has three circular corners in a triangle shape because it will inevitably be turned into a penis and balls by someone who interacts with the client's company lol. If it can be made into a penis and balls it will be made into a penis and balls seems to be a law of design lol
maybe all you had to do was make the bottom of the Q taper into a point instead of being a hard edge straight down
The Quora logo reminds me of a wheelchair icon :)
